  1. Guys, I'd ask you to reflect on Mr. Rove's statement here before you start mailing out checks to the GOP this fall. Think about it again in November when you are about to pull the lever for the GOP establishment "candidate that can win" the general election.

This is what you keep getting with the party hardliners. Personally, I'd rather have Hillary Clinton in office. At least we won't be surprised by her actions.

Mr. Rove has just let the cat out of the bag. The neo-conservatives have rushed to power on three issues:

    1. stop abortions.

    2. Keep gays from getting married.

    3. We'll let you keep your guns.

The sad truth is they don't care about any of those issues. And they won't do anything meaningful to work those issues. The only thing they care about is making lots of money for themselves and their uber-rich friends. When a Democrat (who are not gun friendly, but admit it) says something like this you are up in arms and want to lynch them. When a Neo-Con says it, you claim we have misinterpreted it and gloss it over. Karl Rove meant exactly what he said. These people are not Conservatives and will not follow a true Conservative agenda. Right now we (Conservatives) have no friends in the Republican Party.

  2. 1. It is against the law to wear/carry a firearm in TN. (Fact)

    2. HCP offers a defense against the law. This means you can be required to present permit and demonstrate that you have not violated the law.

    3. I have better things to do than argue with every LEO that I come across who questions whether or not I have a permit. The officer also has the right to ask you to surrender the firearm until he verifies your permit, same as verifying a drivers license.

Why start a hassle when it isn't necessary?

I don't pick fights with cops, I smile at them and act nice towards them. This might be one reason I have lived to be 72 years old!

I have also been EDCing ever since it became legal and nobody has ever noticed.

  3. For me really comfortable pocket carry (the only way I EDC in warm weather) means a .380 or a .38 J-Frame. I carry a S&W 642 in anyone of several pocket holsters. I also double sew the inside seams on my strong side pocket. During the winter I switch to OWB with a Glock 23 in a SOB holster (Under a sweater and coat). I find most 9MM and .40/,45 Semiautos are just too bulky and heavy for daily pocket carry in comfortable trousers ( Chinos for me).

  4. Gee guys you have to have this all wrong. Haslam is a Republican. I have been told for the last 12 years that I can guarantee my right to keep my guns by voting for all Republicans. Don't check up on them, just follow the party line and vote for all Republicans and the problem is solved. Knowing that this is the word of the almighty (my preacher told me the same thing!) you must have it all wrong.

WAKE UP! The battle for our guns is to check out every candidate and to keep the thumb on them while in office. Both parties will hurt us in a heartbeat, as soon as they can get more power by taking our guns!

    Firearms, traps and other weapons

Exceptions to weapons prohibition provided below.

In park, natural, and historical areas the use of traps, seines, handthrown spears, nets (except landing nets), firearms (including air and gas powered pistols and rifles), blow guns, bows and arrows or crossbows, and any other implements designed to discharge missiles in the air or under the water which are capable of destroying animal life is prohibited. The possession of such objects or implements is prohibited unless they are unloaded and adequately cased, or broken down or otherwise packed in such a way as to prevent their use while in the park areas.

    • Exception 2: Authorized Federal, State, County and City law enforcement officers may carry firearms in the performance of their official duties.
    • Exception 4: Persons how possess a Handgun Carry permit and is in compliance with TCA: 39-17-1351.
  6. Obama isn't the problem. This is a "Shadow Bill" in that it simply reinstates a law already in effect. The only reason to do this is to present a bill that will allow the attachment of "riders" to pass other legislation. As this pertains to guns, the pro-gun faction (which includes me) would push the bill. The riders will be party specific provisions unrelated to this issue. (probably anti-ACA and/or tax cuts for "superwealthy" ) and bill will either die in committee or will be fought by other factions in Congress. I am not a Democrat but I don't really believe Obama would veto this bill if it were presented in the clean version shown here. Just watch how the bill changes as it goes through the legislative process. This law is already in effect so why would we need a new one? We gun owners are being used again.

  7. I own over 20 handguns. All but 2 are usually in gun safe. The two out are a GLOCK 23 in a special bed holster and a S&W 642 that is on me every time I leave house. I have a 640, 60, S&W M10, a 686 and a 637. I have tried them all as EDC and have settled on the 642 as the best "Carry gun".

  8. All the ballyhoo around the U.S. Army changing from .38 to .45 had to do with the .38 S&W  and .38 Colt guns. Both rounds were anemic and not very effective. The army also didn't go direct to the 1911 platform It reissued old cavalry Colt Army Model revolvers. The modern .38 Special is a totally different round (especially in +P) and is an effective round.

  9. The Walther PPK is the reason I carry a S&W 642 today. I owned two PPKs, a S&W made and an INTERARM model. Numerous ammo issues with both and lots of slide bites. It is a pretty piece but there are more efficient modern pocket autos available today.
  10. "It's all about public safety"

BS. It is all about public control  . The police tend to see all of us as criminals. I have had a real eye opener on this. I have always had a deep respect for my local police, but had a shock the other day. While shopping, I overheard make some remarks from a high ranking LEO about blacks and other minorities (I am white)  that would have been more appropriate coming from a KKK clansman. He was very vitriolic and earnest. He also let it be known that anybody who did not follow his agenda was just as bad and worthy of punishment. Too much "Us and Them" mindset floating around in law enforcement right now. With the Federal Government facilitating arming them as paramilitary formations, I no longer look at them the same as I have in my 71 year life.

A Police Chief, appointed not elected, has no voice in how I exercise my Constitutional rights. I am not a Liberal, but being a Conservative does not mean I believe in a police state.

  11. Stainless Steel Ruger Bearcat for feral dogs .

Is everybody on this forum a wannabe criminal? It is against the law to shoot any wild animal in Tennessee unless that animal is classed as game, in season and you have the appropriate hunting license. Snakes, including venomous snakes, are protected in TN. About the only defense is protection of livestock or if animal is  too close to dwellings. Even here you are supposed to contact Animal Control for removal of the LIVE animal!

I personally think this law needs to be rewritten but it is the law right now.

  12. Swap out the magazine and the stock (neither controlled items in most states) and you have a regular stock BRO-PG. I don't really believe that will get past the notice of the New York officials. A complete redesign (Modifiable-resistant) might fly but this is just an AR-15 with easily obtained add-ons needed for back-modification. The answer isn't to try to circumvent the law, it is to repeal the law!

  13. Now, I assume everybody here will vote for a huge increase in property taxes this year. That is what it will take to implement any of these suggestions. It will take large sums of tax money and right now we don't even have enough to pay our teachers or make improvements in our school buildings, like working toilets and air conditioners. Taxes have become a dirty word, but that is how our governments pay the bills (or at least should be.) With all of the talk about decreasing taxes, this article is a waste of words, it can't happen.

  14. As one well versed in computer and smart device technology I strongly oppose "Smart Guns" I carry a GLOCK 23  (3rd Gen) or a S&W 642 because of  one simple factor: Mechanical .Simplicity! Too many gimmicks in a weapon simply set you up for a malfunctioning weapon when you really need the weapon. Your battery goes dead or the chip malfunctions in either the gun or the watch/ring and you are literally "dead in the water". Any addition to the weapon other than the minimum mechanics necessary for function simply increases the possibility that the weapon will not be functional when you are in dire straits. Murphy's Law prevails!

  15. Put a bucket on order at Midway and when they get it in, they'll send it to you.

I am still backordered from MIDWAY from 6 months ago. I reestablish backorder every 30 days. All of my .22 rifles and pistols are greased and packed away, they are dinosaurs, collectors items only. Grandkids are shooting Air Rifle (RWS).

  16. I have packed all 8 of my .22 rifles and all 5 of my .22 pistols up and secured them in my gun safe. Next month I am ordering a RWS 34 air rifle for the grandkids to shoot when they come to visit. I haven't seen a box of .22 ammo in two years now at LGD, Wally World, Cabellas or even on online. (I have ordered online and  I am still backordered at 3 retailers from a year ago!) I refuse to pay as much for  .22 as I do for large caliber! As far as I am concerned the .22 is now an obsolete and soon to be forgotten cartridge. I have talked to many of my shooting friends and many feel the same. The air rifle is replacing the .22s in our area. As far as new people buying .22s, where in the SH are they getting ammo? If they are paying gun show prices, they are d**n fools.
