also need to complain to the local news about digging up every possibly even slightly negative firearm "story" and trying to spin and spread fear.

You would think they would be all over wanting this to pass in hopes of more "If it bleeds it leads" headlines.

Unfortunately there are A LOT of irresponsible people out there.  With constitutional carry, any yahoo who can legally own a handgun, can carry said handgun even if they have never held one before, shot one before, or have any knowledge or understanding of the laws and regulations pertaining to its use.

I've gone through the class and permit process in Tennessee twice after moving out of state and then back.   Both times I took the class there was more than one person who had never owned or even shot a gun before they took the class.    Second time around there were three who had to rent a gun because they didn't own one and they were not sure if they would ever buy a gun.  WTF?

I don't consider myself a TGO prognosticator, but I believed that a Biden administration would put other things first--their obsession with destroying America's chances at energy self-reliance, reparations, LGBTQ, punish the police, woke agenda disguised as covid relief, etc. UNLESS a mass shooting occurs.  The statement above calls on Congress to enact the usual common sense drivel, so hopefully it's just lip service to the gun grabber crowd.

I don't think it's an immediate concern of them but it's on the radar and what ever they will try to pull off will happen before the 2022 election cycle.   We probably have nine months to a year before they begin their full on assault.

Call them and ask before doing something that may be very wrong.

I just went to the side of caution and didn't carry while I was there.    Just struck me as odd that the signage had changed since it was very obvious in the past.

Good question. It's the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security. Is that under Federal Homeland Security?

TN Department of Homeland Security and Homeland Security are completely separate state and federal agencies.    I know some people that work for the Federal Homeland Security and they wish the state of TN came up with their own name because they get sick and tired of getting calls about drivers licenses and such and then get cussed out because they tell them they are separate.

  6. Last year when I added a motorcycle endorsement (and every time before) the door had all kinds of signs and gun busters saying you can't carry at the DMV.  Last week I went to the DMV for my son's Learner's Permit and none of that signage was there and the printed out letters saying the same thing were no longer there.

Did something change that makes CCW legal at the DMV?

There's a lot of "since it doesn't affect me, I don't care" going around.  Our worst enemies are among us- large cohorts of the gun community telling the NRA and politicians that things like Red Flag laws, part bans, and AWB are okay, because it doesn't affect them.

I personally would never own a bump stock and had one pistol brace I really didn't care for.  I'm also not worried about red flag laws (until someone turns on me).  That doesn't mean I would ever be passive about laws that infringe the rights and freedom of others.

I know several people who are into sporting clays, hunting, etc that have this exact mentality.  "I don't own an AR or AK so it won't effect me" thinking that if they sacrifice what other's like they would never come after their shotguns and bolt action guns.

Innocuous enough on the surface, vague enough to be dangerous.

I just wonder why the NRA and the state gun orgs aren’t on top of this offering support, guidance and expertise on how to conduct the campaign in the best possible manner to promote safety while respecting rights. This seems like a perfect way to dovetail the Eddie Eagle campaign with a component for adults regarding storage and the necessity of firearms education for their kids.

Can you share with us what is so vague?  Reading the language posted by Garfua I just don't see the innocuous language that would enable the government to start confiscating guns or create a registry of some sorts.

To me this looks more like an advertising campaign that's designed to bring about awareness in properly storing guns safely.

  9. The difference with the bumpstock vs. a suppressor is that bumpstocks were not tracked.   They had no serial number and no record of who bought and sold them plus their intent was to exploit a loophole in the law.

A suppressor is tracked, has strict guidelines on who can own them, how they are stored, transported, etc.     The press and their masters in the DNC has not picked up on suppressors like they did bump stocks.

I never understood how Bumpstocks lasted as long as they did before they were banned.    I wonder how many thousands of people out there have them and don't even know they are banned now.

I do wonder if this guy had a legitimate suppressors or did he buy one of those "solvent traps" from the idiots at a gun show.    I stood there in amazement at one gun show in Chattanooga while the nimrods selling the adaptor to put an oil filter on the end of a gun openly talked about using them as cheap suppressors.   I've not seen them at the last gun show or two.   Maybe their dumbasses are in jail.

  10. I'm another one that is not a fan of the bill.   When I took my carry permit the second time (returning from living out of state) I was shocked that about 40% of the class had never owned a gun and at least 20% of the class had not pulled the trigger on a gun in the last 20 or more years.

I think it's a valid complaint that some of these people should have some form of training so they know to keep their booger hook off the bleaping trigger.

I too am concerned about what this will do for reciprocity with other states.

Instead of removing the requirement for the class make a change so that you can show proof of other forms of formal training.   Hunter safety course, former military, competitive pistol shooting etc.   If you know how to handle a gun there is no reason to take the class but if you are not even sure which end to look at then you should have some kind of training.

  11. Chattanooga's Mayor is as liberal as they get.   He is trying his best to turn us into San Fransisco East.   He seems to care more about taking just about every major road and cutting down the number of lanes for cars to add unused bike lanes and making downtown more artsy fartsy.   Strangely he doesn't seem to care much about guns which is odd for a liberal.

The picture, I'm ok with it.  But I must say I'm surprised by the story, it is as balanced a story as I have seen when the subject is guns.  They have both a pro and anti gun view, without too much spin either way; bravo.

I watched a Channel 3 broadcast and the reporter I would have thought would be as anti-gun as you can get said "Thankfully none of the guns were damaged" in his on the side of the road interview.    I had to re-wind the DVR to see if what I heard was true.

  13. Well guess what tonight's lead story is on News Channel 9?   They went to Hamilton Place and many other businesses and informed them that their signs were not complaint and as predicted they corrected that oversight.   Places you could carry because they didn't follow the law have been made off limits again.

  14. Sometimes fellow members of the gun community don't think things out before they do something stupid.  I was watching this story last night and they said that the Museum's policy was to not have guns on property.   They acknowledge that there were no signs in the public areas outside and only at the entrances.   Who want's to bet that after this story they will "correct" that oversight?

  15. Do I really need to explain how Karma works?  When you do bad things to others (like using shady sales tactics) eventually bad things come back to bite you in the ass.   I think you guys are putting a little too much though into my original comments.

  16. "Also can't believe that you are pleased at a loss this large to a gun retailer.  Seriously?"
I'm certain I did not say I was pleased at the loss of a gun retailer.

"Claiming that this fire is justified based on the actions of one salesman is pretty childish."
    Yea, didn't say that either.

I'm amazed at how quickly many people have completely forgotten and some even defend those who were fueling the panic buying by fear mongering and telling everyone how you better buy it up now before it's taken away.

  17. This is what you call karma...    These guys were all in on fueling the panic buying after Sandy Hook.  One of those sales guys told me I better buy a .22lr AR that was over  $250 above MSRP (and rising) because Bill Clinton had those banned in the Assault Weapons Ban.   When I raised the question about how he banned something that didn't exist at the time the guy huffed and puffed and stomped off.
