  1. Building a couple of computers for people that will probably not be too savvy with Linux and need to know which ones work pretty good outside of Ubuntu.

Tried loading Ubuntu and couldn't get online (not interested in troubleshooting it).  Anyone have recommendations for another flavor?  Last time I was into the Linux thing was back when redhat was free, so it's been years and years ago.

I've built 3 ISPs and a CLEC around Ubuntu and Debian.   I always go with an LTS version but there are some that run well past their EOL because they just work and I'm pretty fond of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."   I have some servers that have gone years without reboots.

  2. Sounds like if you meet the condition that you have been found that you are mentally incapable of handling your own affairs then you probably can't get past question 11F on form 4473 anyways. If they had a clear way to appeal this with an endless run around and we knew it stopped their it would be a good idea. However we can't trust them to use this as a springboard to find other back doors to stealing guns.
  3. "Load it by weight and NEVER start out at the max recipe"

For what I'm loading I usually end up a little shy between the low and high point.

"are you loading it as 38 or 357??"

I usually load .38 data in .357 brass so it does not create a ring in the cylinder that can be a pain in the ass to clean.
  4. I found a bag of .38 125g soft point bullets in my father-in-law's shop.  He wasn't a reloader but it's in stuff that came from his best friend when he passed away 15 years ago so even when my father-in-law was alive he would not have known what they were.

I don't know who makes them so I'm making some guesses at finding load data for these.   Visually they look exactly like this bullet.  http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1601195913/remington-bullets-38-caliber-357-diameter-125-grain-jacketed-soft-point

Should I use copper data or lead data for these?  Should I use starting data out of the Hornady Manual for a 125g bullet since that's my closest weight match?  I'm not looking to get anywhere near max pressure, I'm looking for a decent target/plinking load for one of my Pythons.

  5. Saw this reposted on a friend's twitter a little while ago, didn't realize it was near real time!

Clearly the gun buster sign did its job. It's magical powers kept the bad guy from bringing a gun into a gun free zone. Now if we can just create bullet free zones we will be even safer.

  6. I'm happy for you but advertising it ain't doing you no favors.  Broadcast an edible carcass and ALL the buzzards will show up.  The range may even see the value in it and put a stop to it all together.  Charlie Haffner got smart and if you didn't shoot it, you can't pick it up.  He sells it and makes a good little chunk of change from it.  I don't blame him at all.  I would do the same.

In a few words, ALWAYS keep a good thing under your hat.  Just my opinion which ain't worth much.

There is no "owner" of the CRC (Chattanooga Rifle Club) so no one can really lay claim to the brass other than the shooter. The club etiquette on brass is that you clean up after your self. Sweep nonreloadable .22/steel/aluminum off the pad and pick up reloadable brass. If you reload take it with you if you do not leave it on the bench or counter for someone who does.

  7. How long until marijuana is legal in ALL states?  It's legal some places.....it should be legal EVERYWHERE.

This is gonna open a flood gate they may not be able to hold back.  By this SCOTUS ruling, it stands to reason what's legal ANYWHERE in the US should be legal EVERYWHERE in the US.

That's not that great of an idea.   If you go on that logic the gun laws in the Communist stats count as ANYWHERE and we certainly don't want those laws EVERYWHERE.

  8. Can't carry in banks? Really? Has something changed? AFAIK banks weren't on any list of off limits places unless they had a rob us sign up telling gun owners they weren't allowed to carry inside while allowing robbers free access. Just curious.

BB&T is a gun free zone so they are very safe places to bank.  Their anti-gun force field will make sure you can't get robbed in one.  :)

  9. It seems to me you would be a complete moron to not have liability insurance but not just for guns.  I have an umbrella policy that would already cover this so it's a non issue for me.  The problem I have with this type of mandated insurance is that it creates a list of gun owners (and possibly guns) that is held by a private party.   The problem is that one day some of these companies will want to be good little corporate citizens and hand over these lists in turn for special favors and or treatment.

  10. My information is about 3 years old so take it at that....

I sent an email to the University of Alabama asking about carrying on campus.  I was more interested in carrying and leaving it in the car than carrying in the stadium.  I got an email from the PIO for the UAPD asking me to call him but it was OK to carry in most areas.   He said that the rules that govern students were different than the rules that govern visitors.   He said students were not allowed to carry per University rules but they really didn't have that much jurisdiction over visitors in this matter if they had a valid carry permit.

  11. I've not seen this problem yet in my G17, G34, or G30.(all Gen4) and none of these have bulged the brass but it was the first trip through a glock that I know of.   I have a G22 (Gen3)  that I've shot reloads in but I don't recall if it created a bulge or not since I don't shoot the G22 that often.
