Thanks for the feedback!
What kind of mount is that you used?
I'm going to try and pick up one of these within the next month probably.

One summer when I was in Jr. High (probably 12), a guy in Millersville invited me and my Dad to come clean up his stock ponds because the snapping turtles were killing all his fish. We'd bring a couple gallons of ice tea and a cooler with food, hunt those suckers and taken lunch breaks. lol
I sniped so many of those things with my little Ruger 10-22! That pond was infested with snapping turtles!
Saddly, we didn't get to finish the job. They started building some Government stuff next door. Just googled it, it was a school and some other stuff.

Any of you using a Nikon M-223 Laser IRT on an AR15 5.56 NATO? Positives and negatives?

I'm mostly a Leupold guy, but this scope seems perfect for some long range experimenting!
Thanks,
John

Welcome to the AR club. I just joined myself a couple weeks ago with a Colt AR15.
-
Stones River Hunter Education Center is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so we went out to the Cheatham WMA Firing Range.
I also ended up at the only pace that had any 5.56 ammo, Outpost Armory.
So the report......
Took the Colt AR15 to the range yesterday and shot some 55gr surplus through it.
I was quite pleased with it. At 100 yards, standing up (not bench rest), I was actually putting shots in the head of a human silhouette target.
I wasn't sure that I could do that without a scope (my eye sight isn't the best), but obviously the gun is more accurate than I am.
The wife had zero problems with it. She actually really liked it and didn't do so bad herself!
That said, I can't wait to get a good tactical scope on this thing!

I'm assuming your in muffreesboro correct? what range do you go to?
Probably go here: http://tn.gov/twra/stoneshunted.html

6920 nice
I'm heading out to the range today to test out some rds. I'll report back how it goes.
-
I wouldn't fool with it. Won't affect its functionality.

Looks good.
My dad loves making reloading tables in his spare time (mom hates it though and calls them Frankenstein tables). He likes to use steel and aluminum to make them sturdy. The older tables he made from wood have large legs, I'm thinking 4x4's of solid oak. He never uses pine, says it is crap.
If I can remember, I'll get you some pics to maybe help give you some ideas to modify your by in the future.

Congrates on your 6920 purchase..
pretty much any brass case ammo will work just fine for you, I have a 6920 and a 6940 neither will cycle with Wolf (steel case) unless you change out the buffer to a H2 or H3, I always purchase all my ammo online, you'll pay $0.27+ for brass case ammo and $0.18+ for steel case ammo per round delivered, can't go wrong with 55g with your 1x7 barrel.
Thanks!
I originally set out to get the S&W M&P15T Tactical, but the local shop didn't have it in stock. On the way to decide if I should go for broke on the Barrett REC7 instead, I decided to just give the Colt a try first.
Can't wait to customize this thing a bit, though. With some good ammo, I hope I can get some tight groups at atleast 100 yards.
-
And most other ammunition is 223 pressures, not 5.56.
Dolomite
BTW... does this mean I should not use .223 rifle ammo and only the 5.56 NATO?
-
Thanks.... Off to Wallyworld to check it out!
-
OK, I have some n00b questions.
I just bought a new Colt AR15 LE 5.56 NATO. I've never owned an AR before.
1) Is it best (cheaper) to buy bulk surplus ammo online or locally? I ask because I'm not sure if there are fees for hazardus, explosive, or whatever crap they deem it by.
2) What websites or local shops have the best prices for good 5.56 ammo?
3) What is the best brands, type, etc? Not sure if there are some really ####ty brands I should avoid, etc.
3) What bulet weights, etc., are most accurate in the AR?
Feel free to add anything else I might be forgetting to ask here that I need to know. I've been out of the loop for probably 10-12 years now. Last time I reloaded anything was for my 270 Winchester probably in 1998-1999. lol

Are the Barret 50BMG single shot and semi-auto's sold like regular rifles or is there special paperwork like class 3 weapons?
Thanks,
John

I do know that membership is $75 per year with a "New Member" start up fee of $300. IIRC, their range reaches out to 250yrds with steel plates from 100-250yrds.
Here is the link to their website.
As stated earlier by KahrMan, and as confirmed by their website, their phone number is: 615-299-0958
Yikes! Well, $375 is out of my Xmas fund range. Thanks for the info and help, though.

John,

Thanks! He'll be excited to know this! I think I'll go for the 1 year membership there! Thanks again!!!
-
Do any of you know how much a year membership is to this range and the best way to reach them?
My Dad has wanted to join this range ever since Owl Hollow closed up and I want to try and get him a membership for Christmas.
Thanks,
John

Yeah, how much is shipping on 500 or 1,000rds of 9mm ammo? They charge tax, too?
-
Thanks for the link to that site. I think I'll order my ammo there in the future. Heck, I paid $17 per box of 50rds today for 9mm.
-
Oh the temptation... I want a Glock 45 auto bad!
-
Thanks for the help, all!
-
Thanks, I'll pass that info on to him since he might want to save the cash and let me ship it to his FFL dealer.
-
No, you do not have to ship it FROM an FFL, just TO an FFL, however it is generally much cheaper and easier to have an FFL ship it for you.
How much do you think the dealer will charge me for doing this?
Some FFLs will accept a gun from a private individual, some will not. Check with the FFL you'll be shipping the rifle to.He says he has a FFL dealer that will accept it.
Thanks for the quick help, all!
-
Oh, and do I have to ship the gun from a FFL dealer, or can I just ship it myself?

Alligator snapping turtles are not the same kind living in the local ponds.
http://en.wikipedia....snapping_turtle
They definitely are not endangered because everywhere I go that has a pond or swamp area, there are tons of them!
