  1. Wildlife is kinda privatized by the TWRA. Sportsmen pay them to among other things manage our deer heard. When I was a kid there wasn't any deer to speak of in the state. Know thanks to the work they have done with the funding we have provided, we have a pretty heathy heard. We also get the added bonus that they punish DBs like those two poachers for not playing by the rules when there are ample opportunities for harvesting deer.

  2. I'll pay a little extra if an LGS is competitive, which usually means driving 25-30 miles. Most of the LGS in my area are content to pray on the less experienced firearm owners with prices that are 30-40% higher. I just won't deal with them.

And.... Don't even get me started on the fan boy DBs that work at some of them.

  3. Thanks for the link. Very interesting. Those Nemo rifles look great, but $7k is steep for my needs. If there is a demand for this platform more manufacturers will get in the game and prices will come down.

  4. Papajon,

Thanks for the link. The Aero Precision upper/lower sets would make a good looking build. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those options. I strongly suggest a good trigger, but you can always do that upgrade later. Good luck.

  5. What does everyone think of the Brownells and Aero Precision collaboration on the "308 AR 18" OEM Rifle"? It appears to be a complete rifle without the hand guard and buttstock and is selling for $999. Is this a good deal? There's an write up on TTAG about it right now.

I've been following GhstFace38's PSA build thread with great interest and I've thought about doing a build but I'm worried about the parts compatibility issue. I've built several AR 15s and the milspec standard makes it very easy and worry free in regards to parts.

Couldn't find the TTAG review or any other review, but read the description on Brownell's.  I would bet that it would be a good rifle.

This time last year I started on the path to build and AR-10 from the ground up.  I wanted to end up with something similar to an M110.  I did a lot of research on the subject at the time, and as other have said there are a lot of compatibility issues that you must be aware of.  In the end I could not get the build to work within my budget, which is due in part to my general lack of self control around anything that says match grade or precision.  I decide to take a chance and go with a PSA PA-10 by buying the upper and lower separately.  I started with a vanilla PA-10 lower $225, and then after some camping out on the PSA website picked up the upper.  You have to be patient to get what you want with PSA, and it took about a month for the upper I wanted to become available.   The 20" free float upper came with a 15" Midwest Industries Key-mod handguard, NiB BCG, and charging handle $689.  I added a 3 lb. Velocity trigger, CTR stock and MIAD-2 pistol grip $225, which rounded out the base rifle.  The gun has functioned flawlessly, and will group under an inch at 100 yards when I do my part.  I use the rifle for deer hunting and it will do everything that need it to.  Good Luck.

  6. I am enjoying your thread. The scope mount looks solid. Looking forward to the range report when you get your new glass on that bad boy.

Full disclosure. Had to Google Hindu Kush and am assuming you are talking about the Asian Mountain range.

  7. Don't have any experience with the PEPR. I use another one in the same price range that I have had good luck with. A Weaver SPR with thumb screws. I have to admit that I don't trust thumb screws or QDs in general and added a dab of blue locktite.

  8. There is a nice app you can buy for a few bucks called CCW-Conceal Carry 50 States. It provides reciprocity info, state firearm law summaries, links to statutes, and a bunch other pertinent info. The app is routinely updated to stay current with changing laws nation wide. I don't know if it is perfect but it is better than I could do on my own looking that stuff up when getting ready for a trip. I like knowing the basics about all of the states I am traveling through as well as the final destination.

    Safe travels.

  9. In answer to the original question my belief is that the weather during prime hunting season for the past two years was bad and kept the harvest number low. Our club doubled the number of shooter bucks this year compare to last year. The only difference I could tell was decent weather in November.

  10. From what I have read most of the feed issues were during the initial release of the PA-10. I built mine last summer and have not had a single malfunction after about 200 rounds. Mine has the NiB BCG , and I use ASC mags.

I also wanted to echo what the other folks were saying about the Vortex Diamondback. I believe it is every bit as good as my Leopold VX-2s. I have the Diamondback HD 4x12x42 on my PA-10. Got a great deal from optics plant for around $200. I really like it. Good luck!

  11. One of the upper that I bought from them had a canted FSB. They turned it around in a week, sent me the test target, and a note with my rear sight adjustment. They were spot on.

I believe they will take care of your issues. I am looking forward to hearing how it works out. Good luck.
  12. Northside Gun Shop in Columbia does transfers for $25 including background check. The shop has been around for about a year. The owner is a nice guy. It is a small shop he stocks AR components, ammo, and a selection of handguns and long guns. Does inexpensive transfers to generate traffic. He is registered with PSA.
  13. I heard a good definition of middle class the other day. "Having everything you need and some of the stuff you want". Thought it fit pretty good, but it still doesn't keep me from wanting more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
