  1. As I recall he felt that he was spending too much time on the Internet and that it was affecting his home-life. He decided to sign off and spend more time doing other things.

Thanks David. I always enjoyed his posts, but was concerned by a few of his last ones and wanted to make sure he didn't end up at the eternal shooting range with Marswolf.

  3. I was trying to say, keep your ammo to SAAMI specs and any chamber will work. If you decide to use non SAAMI ammo, then you can't count on a SAAMI chamber working. That's all I was saying. And seeing as how the vast majority of US manufactured ammo is done so to SAAMI specs, you should be fine, unless you use the few non SAAMI loads like those produced by SSA.

Now, as to the benefits of the SPC II chamber, I won't argue that they should change the SAAMI specs to the SPC II specs, but until then, I will use SAAMI spec ammo in my SAAMI spec chamber.

  4. A recent thread made me think......How many people do we have here that wear or wore the Eagle Globe and Anchor....roger up Jarheads..and if you were/are a Corpsmans, you had better roger up, beacause we have all chewed the same dirt.

  5. K Co 3/4. 29 Stumps. It's not too bad, I've been here about 2 months. I do miss Geiger's/Lejuene's trees though.

Semper FI. The stumps.....have fun! since your with the bull go ask weapons company, sniper platoon about Gunny Coughlin. One of my snipers was with him during the invasion. Great guy, I have a signed book by him.

Oh yeah, as Halfpint likes to refer to me.I'm staff sarg'nt..........or however he spells it

seriously, congrats, and you couldn't have made a finer choice than to become an 03 in the Marine Corps.........

  6. Another thread revival! (Yet another one I missed while in SOI . . . )

As far as the survival camping thing goes, I keep a few things tucked in an old pack . . . several MRE "main meals" and water, first aid gear, shelter half, socks and skivvies, fire-starting gear, and a couple of mags and ammo. Need to pick up some fishing gear, and I'll more or less call it done. Between the pistol/rifle and fishing gear for food, and the bottles and shelter half for collecting water, I can handle a few days without any trouble.

And yeah, Staff Sarn't and Chuck, those gov't-sponsored "extended vacations" seem fun . . . looking forward to mine coming up.

Hell Halfpint, if you are on a "sponsored" vacation, I'll be right there with you................

  7. Maybe we need to go with 323 man lol

Chuck, or Charles or whatever you are going by now....lol.....let me ask the guys that I hunt with and whos land I hunt on........I might be able to get a couple of you down there. They are begging to get rid of as many doe as possible. Two years ago I shot 8 of them by myself. Hell, Kimber and I never have to buy beef, we have soooo much deer in the freezer.

  8. I take all of my deer to a little family owned grocery store in West Point. Hell, I dont even have to gut it, they do it all, and I think charge me $75 to turn it into whatever I want. And they do one damned good job of preparing the steaks and making burger......hhhmmmm hmmmmmm good

  9. Actually, any SAAMI chamber will work, unless you use one of the three ( i believe) non SAAMI loads from SSA. As to the M4 feed ramps, as said before unless you are firing full auto, it is a non issue. The original 6.8 SPC was developed by 5th Special Forces Group (again I believe) to function out of a standard M4 that was "slightly" converted.

I just did a test with a recently intriduced 6.8 and it performed very well, all while using the standard SAAMI chamber and faster rifling.

  10. When going overseas I would put 300-500 rounds a week for 10+ weeks thru my DI AR without cleaning. Every trip I would put at least 3000 trouble free rounds during training not including actual engagements. The only time I broke the weapon down was when I would get issued it at the beginning of the trip and 10+ weeks later right before I turned it back in. I would run the gun DRY with no oil on it what so ever to prevent collecting the talcum powder dust over there. The reliability issue is just a myth from olden days that people can't seem to let go. Most of the problems people seem to cite are problems from 40+ years ago.

My personal AR is a DI and I have shot at least a thousand trouble free rounds over the course of a year without cleaning it. It never offered to cause any problem at all.

Now onto another note, pistol driven firearms have their merits as well. I do like the fact the bolt stays cool but in the end I do not believe it warrants the extra cost of retro fitting a already proven design. The AK was designed to be pistol driven and that has helped some with reliability but it is the loose tolerances that do more for reliability than the piston.

If you are having reliability issues with your AR it is because something is wrong with your gun or ammo.

    Dolomite

Dolomite> you and I have seen eye to eye on several issues in the past, but on the first paragraph of this statement I will have to call bull**** on.

I know, or at least understand it to be true that you have spent considerable time overseas, as have I and many others on this forum. I KNOW there is not a single person who has been in any type of situation "over there" who wouldn't clean their weapon after every range season, much less after several thousand rounds.

I'm not calling you a liar, but......quit stretching the truth. If you want to extoll the virtues of a particular op system, then by all means say so, but please dont do it by saying that you never cleaned your weapon that you used to defend your life with.

  11. More info, please?[/

When the SR9 was first introduced it had the version one trigger. Then there was the recall. That created the version two trigger. Then Ruger introduced the SR9c with an even better trigger, that is the version three trigger, or as some refer to it as the V1.2 trigger. You can tell if you have one by looking at the mag release. If you have a half mon mag release you definately have a version three trigger. If your full size SR9 has a full circle mag release and a glock style "safety" on the trigger you have the version two. If you have a full circle mag release and a "Sigma" style trigger safety you have a version one.

  12. I have both the full size and the compact. They both have the version three triggers and are great. I actually like my compact better just because I can carry it easier and at least for me, I think it has LESS felt recoil than the full size.

The only mods I would suggest, and plan on doing to mine, is to add night sights. I believe Meprolite is offering them at this time.

  13. I went dove hunting Saturday in Columbus, Mississippi with my Dad (he lives there) and we did well. I limited out in about 25 minutes then helped him get his limit. We were walking out of the fields at 5 till 8. Going to be cooking them up tonight.

  14. I usually do the vast majority of my deer hunting in Mississippi. They do not rquire any tagging or checking in of deer. Additionally, you can kill one deer a day, every day for the entire season. I hunt around Columbus were the deer are so thick, the game wardons are begging people to kill as many does as possible.

  15. Why do ya'll keep posting pics of my wife......Damned Mike, get over your fascination.......:D.....Just kidding

BTW I know I'm not here that often, but you have aroused my curiosity, What thread that is now closed and can't be mentioned started this one...........Inquiring minds want to know?

  16. Broomhead:

A few years ago I found myself in a similar situation: long story short, while I was on active duty with the Marines, another marine shot me with an M16. Did quite a bit of damage. After some surgery, they referred me to a medical seperation board. The head of the board told me he was going to forgo the six month "wait and see" period and recommend that I be immediately discharged. Now, I know taking a round to the knee is nowhere near as bad as a spinal injury, but I told him I wanted to fight it. I went through two terrible rounds of physical theropy just to learn to walk right again........Fast forward a few years.....Because I was stubborn, and REFUSED to accept what the governemnt had laid out for me, I am stil in the Marines, although left active duty a few years after the incident and joined the reserves, and still have a fairly normal active life.

My reason in telling this story is, DO NOT DESPAIR!!! You still have your life, after that, all other things can be overcome with some heart and a strong headed attitude. KEEP THE FAITH BROTHER!

  17. Last time I heard, and this was from the owner of a local range, Memphis/Shelby County is interested in selling the old county range at Shelby Farms.....Maybe we should coordinate a TGO group buy.......What do ya'll think?
