  1. Glad Zorin is working well for you, dual boot is a decent way to go to get the best of both worlds. I'm thinking of getting a Solid State Drive for my laptop and making it even faster.

Win10 is something I'm holding off on, though.  No need to go through the headaches of "upgrading" when I have a stable system that does everything I need and has enough support for a while.  All the things I'm reading on other sites about Win10 being set up to send a lot of information by default doesn't sit well with me either.

    Thanks

I just read this and did as it suggested  http://bgr.com/2015/07/31/windows-10-upgrade-spying-how-to-opt-out/

This notebook has a legacy bios option so that made the dual booting simple.  I have been spending most my time in Zorin.

  2. I have a win 8 notebook I got back in 2013....I hated it from the start.  I installed win 7 on it...it did better but still had hic ups.  Due to win ten being released I put win 8.1 back on it.   So due to this thread I installed Ubuntu.  I liked it, so I then removed Ubuntu and install Zorin Ultimate...The notebook now flys.

First time dealing with a successful linux install.  I really like it.

Thanks for all the info I got from the thread!!!

It is now dual booted with Win 10 and Zorin so will have to see how it goes.

    Thanks again!

  3. Range USA has a group on for $39 ...the regular price is $75 or was.  They are usually booked up but you can call and check, and/or sign up for cancellations..they call the people who are  signed up for the classes a few days before and verify if they will be showing up or not.

  4. Back in the day....a friend gave me a copy of Linux,,,I had a desktop that was not being used.  I was starting 2 weeks of vacation..so I decided on a Sunday afternoon to install Linux on the desktop. I messed with it though the night used the internet (56k dial up) to search for drivers and for help  to install the OS. So as my wife was walking out the door to go to work the next morning I decided  to give up, go to bed and admit I got my backside kicked by Linux..So a few weeks later I seen the friend who gave me the copy Linux..So I said by the way that copy of Linux you gave me....He stopped me in mid sentence and said it is a copy of a bad copy so throw it away...........................................................................................................................................................

  5. Great story but I'm not seeing any mention of the .380 caliber being used. Where is it?

He didn't expect Chuck to open the bathroom door. My husband  (Air Force Academy, U.S. Army Special Forces), said "What's going on here?" and advanced into the room. Stark naked and dripping wet, he maneuvered himself in front of the small table between the beds, concealing two small .380 legal handguns we'd brought in from the car.

  6. I also didn't see where any particular caliber weapons were used. I wonder what caliber gun the bad guy had verses what the good guy had?.......................Curious minds like to know!!! :squint:

From reading a few different news reports...Lynne Russell said the guy had a .40 cal shinny looking gun.  Her husband started with a pocket 9mm..but emptied  that gun and continued  with another gun, cause the guy kept firing.  (She told the gunman she would look in her purse to see what they had. She reached down and put one of the two handguns the couple had in a side table into the purse. She gave the handbag to her husband.)

The bad guy was still on parole from Memphis.

They said they chose the motel 6 because the allowed dogs.

  7. I know you said local......but I got mine here http://www.gunbuyer.com/p-59953-smith-wesson-mp-shield-9mm-3-7181-3dot-no-safety-melonite-finish-single-stack-10035.aspx..free shipping...I used www.patriotdefensearms.com for the FFL (lakeland), I order it on a tuesday or wendsday picked up the gun on firday about 3pm.

  8. http://www.kait8.com/story/29310676/jonesboro-police-chief-addresses-open-carry-controversy

So if I am reading this right.  The Police Chief and the City Attorney believe that open carrying a hand gun is legal in the state of Arkansas.

But if too many people freak out about it, you can be arrested for Disorderly Conduct,

The background on the above is that the state legislators pasted an act in 2013,  The former AG of AR said that act 746 did not allow open carry of a handgun.

The new AG feels that the act 746 does allow open carry but has not issued a formal opinion yet .http://www.katv.com/story/29280564/attorney-general-addresses-conflicts-over-open-carry

Arkansas does not have a specific law for open carrying a hand gun.

  9. I saw no quotes or mention of a Police Chief or any other cops; what did the Chief do?

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson disagrees and said, “More guns are never the answer. I think we need to have stronger gun laws and make sure that they are used in appropriate ways.”

Chief Dotson is currently working with the city counselor's office to determine what the law allows. He told News 4 police will share that informationicon1.png with Smith when he arrives at the zoo.

  10. Nice Choice!!!  Congrats.  Well I just chose the shield 9mm over a glock 43...my first S&W  have a couple  glocks...the shield just felt better, and I shoot on target from the first shot...for some reason when I shoot glocks the first shot goes left..

  11. Here's my take on revolver and pistols. For a once in a life time shot and the shot being my life I'll put my faith in a revolver.  Oh yeah it dont hold 15 or more rounds but I think the reality that a pistol has a better chance of jamming will better my odds. I'm 80 and NEVER had a revolver jam.  Pistols many times!!!  I am not talkin street fight...I'm talkin home invasion.

I rented a  S&W 38 at the range last year to try it out.   It jammed.   Now being a range rental it most likely has more rounds than most guns but it still locked up.  But with that said...there is a glock 17 in a night stand  on one side of the bed and s .357 in a chest on the other side of the bed.

  12. So, young military members should only have guns under supervision?

I didn't say that. I was only adding to what someone had said.  But as stated above, the young  members only get to use the guns/toys under supervision.

I will admit looking back,, I did lose 90% of my common sense as did the other young airmen I served with while off duty drinking with at least with me  it was that way for the  the first 4 to 6 years.  The very stupid things we did. lucky no one  got seriously hurt!

But we never played with guns while drinking.

  13. One of my sons came home today for lunch.  He said that a biker club/gang was leaving a strip mall just north of hwy 64 off of north Germantown parkway.  I guess they had lunch at one of the restaurants.   Said that one of the bikers took it upon himself to block two of the three south bound lanes of Germantown parkway so the rest of the club/gang could get out of the strip mall.  Said Bartlett Police happen to show up in an unmarked  car and put a stop to it.

A good way to represent a club
