  1. So quick update on this. At income tax time I'm gonna be ordering up a still. I'll be ordering from Clawhammer Supply and will be going with their 10 gallon copper, build it yourself kit. This let's me have some pride in workmanship and I feel capable of doing the work, but I also know all the parts are there and I can call them for help if I run in to something unexpected. I went with a 10 gallon as a starter so I can take things slowly but still run enough for it to be worth it. I'm also gonna order up a couple of books to read up on. And I'll probably be picking several people's brains when I can. For those of you who have done this, let me see if I have the process right.

You make your mash, adding sugar, corn, or sweet feed, etc and yeast to water. This fermets in a mash barrel. Once it's done fermeting, you siphon off the wash (liquid) into a separate container. Then you do a stripper run and don't make any cuts. This makes low wines and clears your wash of most of the water, particles etc. Make enough stripper runs to have 10 gallons of low wines? Then add all the low wines, and distill slowly, cutting out the foreshort (methanol) then cutting the heads, hearts and finally the tails. This will yield high wines or high proof alchol in your hearts correct? Is there anything I'm missing or that j am misinformed on? How much wash does it to take to strip off and make 10 gallons of low wines? And with 10 gallons of low wines, how much finished product can be expected?

From what I've read and a little hearsay is temperature control is crucial,  a few degrees during certain steps can make a major difference in the end product.

  2. What's the story?

    Comms post:
Glad to see someone else enjoying 10mm.
Get a Gen 4 20 and dont look back.

The Glock failure photo was in regards to Comms response to SWJewellTN suggesting he get a Gen. 4 Glock 20 . I would say it's safe to say that Comms may be the Number one 10mm Resident Fanboy around this forum. The photo I posted was a random Glock 20 catastrophic failure aka Glock Kaboom or KB of which there are no shortages of Glock KB's on the interwebs. Glock had some major issues early on between the NY trigger saga and catastrophic failures. Glock has done quite well considering all the negative PR they endured early on. Check here for more on Glock KB's

I'm not a die hard Glock hater, more like I drank the koolade and it didn't take or maybe left a bad taste. I prefer my hand guns to be made with metal and wood. I do own a couple of polymer frame handguns and may own more in the future but chances are slim that they will be a Glock. Like I said under the photo on the original post, "I ain't bashing just having FUN". Another one of my failed attempts at a little humor I guess.

  3.  Just like those who refused to believe in the government illegally monitoring / wiretapping mass phone calls until Snowden exposed some of the proof.

Those who would give up essential liberties for safety will get neither, but this won't stop our liberal government from taking away the liberties.

Illegal wiretapping and or intercepting any communication that is intended to be private between two or more parties aside.  I seem to remember in El Prezidente Barrys final press conference of the year (of which I only heard small snippets of) he mentioned that there will be more aggressive monitoring of social media, forums, blogs and so on by HLS, NSA or whatever known or unknown government agencies to head off any future terrorist attacks.   I don't consider myself in the tin hat club and I don't avoid social media for fear of big brother.  Obviously I do  participate on some  gun related forums and TGO being my favorite and the one I'm most active on.  Over the years I have caught myself rewording or even deleting comments based on how the text could be manipulated or misconstrued and possibly raise an eyebrow even though I had no malicious intent and was referencing totally legal activity.  I have heard and read articles that they utilize the ability to monitor based on trigger or key words and I know that this is basic technology these days.   Am I alone in this or has anyone else given it any thought when posting or making a comment on the interwebz?  I Can't wait to see the comments on this one and what possible direction it will go!  I firmly believe there are some people here that have as much or more of a warped sense of humor as myself.

Any U.S. governmental agency employee monitoring this for the purpose of national security, Merry Christmas to you and yours! :usa:

  4. Never on an AR or any other firearm sort of.  I did have a Ruger 10-22 discharge when I disengaged the safety once.  There was an RO standing next to me during a competition so he was watching my every move.  Later that day we both tried every way we knew to replicate it but could not do it.  I've been in extremely close proximty of 3 that claimed a slam fire but I'm certain they were not slam fires but AD's or ND's due to having the finger on the trigger while charging the firearm.

The firing pin in AR's float.  If you remove an unfired cartridge that you let the bolt slam forward on it will leave a very light mark on the primer almost every time.

  5. I have Dillon RL550B I've used for 26 years.  I've loaded 10's to maybe 100's of thousand of general range ammo, bullet hose fodder and competition ammo and you can't beat it for the amount of time you can do it in.  If your getting into long range accuracy it's capable of doing that as well depending on the type of powder you are measuring or metering.  Extruded or stick powders tend to be the trouble makers when it comes to measuring by volume.  So basically the difference is the powder is metered volumetrically instead of by weight. Back when I shot a lot of High Power competitions I and most of the guys I talked with loaded 200 and 300 yard ammo by volume and did just fine with it.  There where some that did their 600 yard loads by volume and some  others that weighed every charge.  I did the charge by volume and maybe check every 5th charge and rarely was it ever off by more than .5 grains which was good enough for me.  There are the long range accuracy fanatics that wouldn't think of measuring by volume and that's fine with me if that's what they want to do. So if accuracy is what your after and you believe weighing is critical then keep weighing.  The only way you'll really know is experiment and load some metered by volume.  I hope this helps.

  6. Not to jack this thread, but where are some good sources for mags?  I've got a MK II 22 and need/want another mag or two.

Keep a watch on Flea Bay. OEM  will average in the $25 range with free shipping.  The last time I purchased some was in bulk and I think that got them down to $21.50 each for 10 but that was over a year ago.

However if you have the 22/45 they usually run a few more $$$

    Edit: added the 22/45 info
