  1. Here is a link to the bill. Tennessee General Assembly Legislation It's pretty difficult to figure out the final wording but if you follow through the ammendments you can put it together. What's pretty interesting is that House ammendment 2 requires at least 1 shooting range to be constructed within each state park. See Senate ammendment 2 Section 1-I and 1-J for a list of areas that are included. Notice the language "or other similar public place". Although ammendment 3 removes "wildlife management area". All state and federal land is legal as of the signing of the bill. Local parks take effect September 1 to allow local governments time to opt-out.
  2. :doh:WOW! Guess I should have called earlier. I was fingerprinted on 3-3-09 and didn't get my permit until 6-2. I waited to call until about mid May.
  3. Got my HCP 13 weeks after fingerprinting. My uncle got his a few days earlier and we completed our applications the same week. We both called after 11 weeks and were told that they were due to be issued the next week. I would say that if you are waiting for yours, call after about 4-6 weeks. I've read through this thread that calling may seem to prompt them to bring your app to their attention and 'may' get it issued quicker. Obviously no guarantees but it can't hurt unless you pester them about it. Here is the link for renewals that includes the phone # Handgun Carry Permit Forms. It sounds like classes are still full and you will probably have to schedule a month out or so and I'm sure that is backing up the processing of the applications. I think that says a lot about how Tennesseans feel about their Second Ammendment rights and I don't see how our legislators can ignore that - regardless of the crap that most media (not to mention our governor and the most enlighted police chief Serpas in Nashville) tries to feed the public about the evils of handguns and how those who carry should be feared. If you are considering getting your permit or know someone who is, consider going ahead and signing up for a class and get your application completed. I don't want to propose that we get a bunch of citizens carrying handguns that are not qualified, but if you are considering it, go ahead and start the process. Then while you are waiting, you should have plenty of time to research the type of weapon you are most comfortable with and get some experience by going to the range with friends and trying out different guns. Having a permit to carry does not obligate you to do so but exercising your Second Ammendment rights is always a good thing, it gives us a lot of clout with our legislators and may even help deter some BGs.
  4. The main difference I think is the trigger. Typically a hammer is going to have a stronger spring to work against. The double action trigger pull will be heavier and longer plus the trigger is farther forward in the guard. Then each subsequent shot will be a shorter lighter pull because the hammer has already been cocked by the slide. Of course this is for DA/SA pistols. Double Action Only will have the longer, heavier pull for each shot. It's been my experience that the trigger with a striker has a springier feel to it and not nearly as sharp of a break. A lot of striker fired weapons are like a single action revolver - you have to cock it for each shot by working the slide, however, some like the Taurus Millenium Pro series are a true DAO that allow you to fire the gun without working the slide allowing you a second attempt at a round that does not fire the first time. Go out and try both at the range to see what you like. Pulling the trigger at the counter won't tell you much, especially if you've never experienced it with a live round.
