  1. Getting a Technician license is good. Getting a General is REAL good. Wider spectrum with which to work with, additional modes.

Has to be said, my whole purpose of study and running through 442 question flash cards stacks  for General was as part of prepping. Comms will be vital in a SHTF situation, and I am not so naive as to think the repeater net will be up after a Carrington event or a synthetic EMP. Possibly if it is a net /grid hack, but I don't know. Hence being able to punch through distances without dependence on repeaters or internet/RF mixes.

KI7CIL is never, EVER going to be smart enough to be an Extra. But if you are, I recommend it.

Better have added stabilizer to that water or it will be good and green in a while.

I recall that the British Navy, back in the day, dropped silver coins in their freshwater barrels to prevent such things. Probably only need a 1/10 troy ounce round for a 5 gallon bucket, seeing as such are probably more silver than the coinage used back when.

    Argh... topic drift.

  3. I'm given to understand that the military has for some time been issuing multitools as part of a soldier's gear. Anyone know who scored the contract with that, and if there are near or equal versions of the tools in question, to where civilians may get em?

  4. I sell guns at the Walmart I work at, here in Vegas.  (pro tem)

We are required to charge $25 for a background check They have to have a valid state issue picture ID from NV or one of our neighoring states, excepting California. (Hey, we tried.)  Still have to run them through filling out a 4473. We have to call BATFE Carson City for the background check.

IF the buyer has in hand an up to date and valid NV CCW card, no background check charged, no background check executed, as NV already did a far more extensive one giving the guy his CCW.

Here we have three different immediate outcomes:

-Proceed. Finish the sale, put the item back in its original package, tape it up, and management walks the customer out the door with it.

-Delay. Either NV of the Feds can issue a three business day delay for further investigation.

    -Deny. No sale.

If he has a CCW, it's an automatic Proceed.

Where we are at, we can put a rifle or shotgun into the customer's hand, if all goes well, within 2-3 hours. Less if they have a CCW card.

To my best knowledge, WM does NOT sell pistols, except in the state of Alaska.

If the perp in this terrible thing had filed a 4473 with us, I am uncertain as to how things would have proceeded, given that the USAF apparently dropped the ball updating his data. Had he survived, a copy of a 4473 showing its having lied about felonies, dishonorable discharge, and mental institutionalizing would have been each good for up to 10 years in a Federal jail  and up to $250,000 in fine. Sort of icing on the cake.

We are allowed, those of us at the pointy end, to use our own judgement and deny a sale at any time, and only be accountable to our store manager for it, and that as an accountability courtesy. In eight years, I have had to do that twice, and ALWAYS got in front of the matter with Store within the half-hour. I've had to stop sales because boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever was assisting them filling the 4473 out, beyond not not knowing how to use a keyboard or translation problems, and have gotten called every several name one can think of for it. Before we were required to ask for and take picture ID before handling the weapons, I stopped would-be sales because the non-purchasing party was handling the weapons, and the purchaser wasn't.

I have, had, and will stand behind my conduct. Not all of us who sell firearms are complete idiots, and as stated above, I do not know all the details on this perp's transactions.

I will NOT be like the ijit in Massachusetts some months back that sold ammo

    -without asking for ID

    -to someone obviously drunk

    -at 3AM...

which ammo got used in a drive-by shooting, after the drunk MINOR supposedly handed the ammo off to another party.

I apologize for the topic drift.

I agree with some of the video but not all of it. He mentioned to make sure your members that carry have the same training as law enforcement. In all honesty I think any person that spends as much time at ranges as folks do here can probably shoot more accurately then many LEO's so asking them to have LEO training is a non starter in many cases........JMHO.

I had a friend stop in today that attends a small church here in Gallatin and he and several friends of his that also attend the church and on any given Sunday there are 5 to 7 armed and trained people attending the service. Several of them are Vets and they have sent up a code word similar to the Secret Service. The congregation all know the code word is "GUN" that is announced loudly by who ever sees the possible shooter and everyone in the church knows to get down below the pughs to gain cover while the security people confront the shooter. They actually do drills to make sure everyone responds just like fire drills when we were kids in school. The security people are not all in same location but in different areas so they can see most all the members of the church. He said they began doing this almost 2 years ago and the entire congregation is in approval.

I applaud the sensible nature of this precaution and the sensible reaction of its beneficiaries.

Must be said, though, that I mourn at needing it.

Not to be too stereotypical, but how could anyone not expect people to be armed...in TEXAS

    In a church....

Can anything be done for the bereaved? Will TGO set up something to be done in relief of families of the victims?  WHere do i send $? Would I could send me, but I cannot. (Drag not having a car.)

And YES, all the usual suspects are giggling over the gore, and trying to further their aims with the dead not even yet buried.

A call for violence is not, and should not be protected speech; it is a crime. Start putting these dirt bags in jail.

It's not protected. Conspiracy to commit assault etc. , incitement to riot, etc. I'd say start locking THEM in the FEMA camps, but then my blood would start up and say to shove em in there butt nekkid and shelterless, and forget to feed them.

Which is scary. One does not reduce the hazard of rabid animals by acting as they do, not without the real possibility of becoming one permanently.

  8. Tennessee has tobacco, certainly... but is it suitable for making into cigars? I've never heard of one, myself, from TN.

When I do indulge, it's about once a month, phone pulled out of connection, situated comfortably, with a finger or two of Mr. Motlow's fine adult beverage  nearby. Partagas #10 Double Corona, 7.5" length, 48 ring gauge...with care, I can get two or three hours of good smoking out of it. At $11 a pop out here in Las Vegas, like I said, a monthly pleasure.

Is that good young man going to have a mortgage-burning party?

My family missed out on that... When the egg donor went to its fiery reward, my kid brother went through TWO YEARS unraveling its rats-nest of papers and bills, and ended up having to sell the place. It had nagged Father into a second mortgage, and after he passed, it apparently ran up bills on the 'reverse mortgage' scam.

  10. I have 299 Days on a device here...basics are good, but the timeline.... no. 1099 days maybe. That and they got a bit too mystical, and normalcy bias was spread on to even the best characters. Fortunately not a thick layer.

The "I've been thised and thated by aliens" guy, Whitley Strieber, and another author, James Kunetka wrote a book back in the 80's called Warday.

As big a chunk of pro-California propaganda I've not seen in a long time. The premise is a limited nuclear war... and Cali didn't get touched, was prospering and went even more authoritarian than they presently are to protect it.  It does mention the US getting EMPed prior to the nukes, and a lot about radiation.

Got my email and shipping label.  My goes tomorrow.  My buddy at work registered his with Sig 2 hours before me on the opening day, and he sent his in last week.  I am reading that the turn around is not 6 weeks as advertised, but like 2 weeks.  We will see.

This whole thing is troubling. I mind a customer of mine (and for the record, yes, I DO work at Wal-Mart, and I DO sell guns there) telling me of Sig doing a drop test with their P226 model.

30 meter wide circular sandbag target, two bags deep. Weapon had a full mag, one in chamber, safety off. Taken up in a chopper to 300 feet and pitched out  onto the target. After a quick field cleaning it was determined that it had NOT dropfired.

Mind, this is a secondhand story, and might be as full of hop as a krausened beer. Still, Sig Sauer is a company with miles and miles of solid reputation; I can't see how something like this slipped through.

My mother's family told me endlessly of my g'g'g'grandparents, who were allegedly conductors on the Underground Railroad. My father told me of one of his g'g'g'uncles who marched with Uncle Billy.

More later, our mortal enemy is breathing down my neck.
