I see this brought up quite a bit and have been guilty of making this argument myself in the past. That said, it just doesn’t jive with the words of FDR at the time of enactment of the first federal minimum wage.

"It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By 'business' I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white-collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living."

    http://docs.fdrlibrary.marist.edu/odnirast.html

And from this famous speech “A Fair Day’s Pay for a Fair Day’s Work”

“Today, you and I are pledged to take further steps to reduce the lag in the purchasing power of industrial workers and to strengthen and stabilize the markets for the farmers' products... Our nation so richly endowed with natural resources and with a capable and industrious population should be able to devise ways and means of insuring to all our able-bodied working men and women a fair day's pay for a fair day's work... All but the hopelessly reactionary will agree that to conserve our primary resources of manpower, government must have some control over maximum hours, minimum wages, the evil of child labor and the exploitation of unorganized labor.”

Whether or not we think it is the proper policy 85 years later is a different question entirely, but the minimum wage was intended to be a living wage at its inception.

    Thanks for posting this.

On my grandmas deathbed I picked her brain. I asked who her favorite president was. No hesitation she said FDR.

People deserve a living wage. Not minimum.

Im in my late thirties. I’m fortunate where I grew up poor and was frugal all my life. Put 30% down, paid for school out of pocket. I’ve worked three jobs my whole life. My 15 year mortgage is manageable, it’s all the necessities that come with life that has skyrocketed. Health care, auto and home insurance/property taxes, pet insurance, almost everything across the board has nearly doubled for me. I carry good insurance on everything because I really like my home and I’m not trying to lose it over an act of god.

I now need to make $8k post tax just to have the qualifications to keep a roof over my head and a paid off beater Honda accord to earn money. I shop around every 6 months for insurance. Groceries is another issue. I was in such a better spot financially pre-covid… my firearm hobby is half of what it used to be because I’m still worried about inflation.

I bartend on the side. Always will. I’ve had 3, correct 3 people reach out to me to ask me for work. They all have doctorates or 5 year degrees. They’re all my age. I feel fortunate that I have no debt and buy everything outright. I can’t stress enough that it’s tough for millennials at the moment. Sure you can blame DoorDash, and subscription services and avocado toast. That doesn’t change the fact that a dollar is worth 20% less now than it was pre covid.

It’s not apples to apples. I have a 10mm banshee. A couple of other PCCs.

The radial delayed blowback is phenomenal. My 10mm kicks less than my 9mm pccs. CMMG went through a phase where they had issues with the extractor, and it would cause some wear while ejecting on the frame. I couldn’t be happier with mine, it’s probably my favorite gun.

When I introduce new shooters I start with .22s and end with that. Kicks similarly to a stock 5.56 16”. Everyone is always smiling after. If you have the coin I’d gladly get another CMMG.

I also run an H2 buffer in it.

Them Maverick 88s are hands down the best!

    So versatile!

Shoot any animal with them... Hit any animal over the head with them.. use it as a crutch, boat paddle, door stop!

    Indestructible!

Ohhhh and they cheaper than dirt too!

I’ll second this one. I’ve got a handful of 12s. The 88 does just as good as my 590. It’s my bedside 12 even though I have higher quality ones. Keep one by the back door for critters. Superb and reliable shotguns and for $250 plus ship and ffl fee you can get the security/field combo and get one with an additional “28 barrel. Can’t beat it buck for buck.

  5. Ex has one as her backseat camping gun. She was able to hit a torso at 5 feet consistently. I was garbage at 5 yards. It’s a heavy pull.

  6. I’ll give a small sample.

I bought an apx carry on a whim at my LGS when they had a rebate running in 2020. Tolerances were off. Slide was too tight, even after polishing the feed ramp would get a stovepipe. It had the worst trigger I’ve ever used, they say factory it’s supposed to be DA 12.5  and SA maybe 6.5 (going off of memory) but I swear it was more. Very spongy as well. Worst trigger I’ve used other than the early middle SCCY/SKYY triggers.  Thought I couldn't shoot it worth a damn because of the ridiculously heavy pull and was consistently landing rounds low left. Handed it to a friend with pistol skills and trigger time and he had the same issue. Sights were also off.

One of the few guns that I’ve sold outright. I follow a lot of firearm threads and will say that everyone complains of the fit and finish on the Gallatin guns. Very few complaints about the A400s that are made there. I’d consider getting an A400 from that plant but I already have a 1301.

Small sample size. I wouldn’t do it. I also looked into doing maintenance for them as it’s close to home and the pay scale from operators and up is severely low for the industry. Seems gun manufactures kind of hope they get gun people to work for poverty wages, and that was also echoed on a S&W forum regarding their plant workers. Would explain QA issues.

Small sample size. I personally will not buy a handgun unless it’s manufactured at the Italy plant. Would consider a shotgun. I think their rifle line is ugly as sin.

  7. Carl is a great dude. One of my favorite meetups to shoot the breeze with. All his stuff is always pristine, the price of sig mags alone make this a great deal.  If everyone priced as fairly as he does there wouldn’t be any bumping in the thread! Great guy and deal with confidence.

I want this. But have bought two legions off of both poster and commenter in this thread and can’t have champagne tastes on a miller light budget in this economy. GLWS.

  8. I haven’t because the only 10mm I have is a radial delayed blowback PCC. Everything I’ve read says that roller delayed blowback PCCs won’t run aluminum.

I’ve shot a few hundred rounds of blazer .380 w a couple of failures, I think mostly failure to feed.

I wouldn’t shy against aluminum for training ammo though especially since I don’t reload.

  9. Just my opinion, I know it stinks paying for a service without a guaranteed result.

So far you’re out $400 rough math, call it a 1$ a day. What’s the price that you’re willing to walk away and have a potentially subpar sleep.

If someone said that I could sleep better and it would cost me $1800 a year I’d pay $5 a day to spend a third of my day actually rested and wake up ready to seize the day and in my best mental head space. I know sleep apnea is a pain but if you can extend life and quality of sleep I hope it’s worthwhile and helps.
