  1. I'm just about over this little pistol.  It's been back home to SA once (a few years ago) for the same deal.  Changed mags to Wilson Combat back then.  Helped, but only marginally.  This is a serious feed ramp issue.  Will not feed HP at all and rounded nose FMJ 60% of the time.  Grrrrr.  Any tips before she goes "home" again?

  2. Caster, the reason my Red Tops only last two years is that my 02 Durango has a unusually sensitive idle control system.  The PCM actually reads base voltage of the battery and anything below 12.4V  it will have difficulty idling.  It is a well documented fault with these mopars... and quite a bother actually.  This fault happens regardless of alternator output levels from the diode packs.  If the batt is below 12.4V without the top charge, your idle control circuit will become more erratic over time and eventually cause stalling at stoplights.  The engine will crank/start fine.  Just a clarification.

    Carry on.  LOL

I got 9 years out of the first red top optima battery I bought.

I have a yellow top in my FJ.....my FJ is yellow, I had to get the yellow one!

I have a blue top in my wife's Camry.  It was on sale.

Everyone has different experiences and circumstances.  I have found Optima to be everything they claim and more.

You really need the whole system looked over closely.  2 years?  A cheap ass rebuild from Hester should get you better than 2 years.  Something is wrong.

  3. I had a lady who kept running down batteries come into the shop I used to work at.  Her brake light switch was stuck and the brake lights never went off!  LOL  All was normal after that fix.

The point being, you either have a voltage "leak", or poor charging from the alternator/Vreg assy.

  4. Optima Red Tops last me about 2 years.  The bottom line is, fiberglass mat can't do what lead can.

Duralast from AutoZone and the Wally batteries are made by the same co, and Wally has them cheaper.

You really need to check that charging system though.  If it is eating batteries, there is a reason why.

  5. This officer I believe was ill and on the job.  He did not pat the guy down FIRST.

He paid for it with his life.  RIP sir.

Just an example of how a benign conversation can go bad in a split second.

  6. All my rides get Valvoline full syn, and their interval is 6500-7500 miles, depending on when I feel like doing them.  The Honda and Hyundai get OEM filters (I get them at cost), but the Durango gets a K&N for the stroked 408.   :usa:

  7. First, I apologize if this is posted elsewhere... did a cursory search and didn't find this topic.

I really have a hard time believing this guy is one of "us".  His provocative actions and unsafe weapon handling (muzzle awareness) give us ALL a bad name.  Maybe he is a plant from the antis.

If not, we have to muzzle these idiots asap before they do real damage to the cause.

  8. This is true.

So why on earth are we paying 3.35/gal for gasoline here? The freighters should be lined up nose to tail filled with oil and headed this way. I know what everyone says "we're not an imperialist country, we don't conquer other nations." Well, we should at least take back what we spent over there.

But nooooo... We just had to prove to the panty-waists that this wasn't a "war for oil". Pshh...

Not disagreeing with you, btw. Just ranting. I should go to sleep.

I just got back from MI.  It went from $3.66 to $4.00 in one hour last Thursday.  Personally I'm glad to home to a free state.

Also saw TWO convoys going south on 65, each 1.5 miles long in IN.  Seriously loaded stuff.  Another buddy of mine mentioned a number of trains in NJ pulling 100+ cars of MIL items moving south as well.  That ain't guard action friends.

  9. My MTD turns 18 years old this year.  I maintain it myself, and we mow a little over an acre with it that puts 1.25-1.5 hrs on the meter per mowing.  We also use it for seeding, de-thatching and fertilization operations.  It has the 14.5 Hp Briggs and a 6-speed manual gearbox.  Every June I change the oil, sharpen the blades, replace the air filter, and fuel filter (I use a real in-line fuel filter not the screen type).  I buy a new spark plug every 3 years.  This year she got new front tires from Northern Tool, and I bought a new battery about 8 years ago.  Nothing else has been needed.

Unit cost on this mower was $750 at Sam's Club, and the glossy grey paint still shines.  I can't see shelling out all those $$ for a JD or CC big box or not.  Hmmm.  Maybe I'll ceramic coat the exhaust this winter.  ;)

  10. I spent 4 months at NAS Pensacola for a school when I was in the Marines. I love the blue angels, but listening to those F-18's thunder overhead everyday constantly gets old lol. It was awesome seeing them constantly though.

And yet, when you jar heads get in a jam, who comes in with suppression and robust flavors of ordinance?

Don't hear you guys whinin' about the twins then, even when we light em up.  :)
