  1. I ended up going with something a little different this year and got my dad a digital picture frame loaded with old hunting trip photos and a few of the grandkids. He’s not big on tech, but this one just plugs in and plays through the pictures, and he really liked that he didn’t have to do anything except watch the memories.
  2. That’s super sweet of your mom! For close range (under 50 yards), there are some digital NV options in that $200–300 range that will do the job, especially for just watching deer. But if they ever want to see movement way out in that open field, a thermal infrared monocular would be way more useful—even caught coyotes roaming through a field one night using mine. Thermal picks up heat, so it works even when there’s no moonlight.
