Have you guys seen the inside of a UPS facility? They work like dogs most of the time. I've never worked directly for them but worked in one of the buildings for several months when I was younger. The guys/gals that sort, load, and unload are worked very hard. The drivers deliver in places most of us don't want to drive through. I cut those guys/gals a lot of slack this time of year. At the time the drivers put in for the route they drove. The driver for my area tapped my retaining wall and knocked off the cap block. He offered to come back on his own time to fix it. Had I called in he more than likely would have lost his job. That company isn't easy to work for.

Caught a huge male this morning. Probably one of the biggest and most aggressive coyote I've come across. Most try to get away but he came at me. The pic is him next to the average female I caught the other night. He makes almost two of her.

I've hunted them from a stand several times and with some luck. Just remember that they can pinpoint the sound with pretty good accuracy. Most people say that they charge right in. But my experience has shown me that's not always true. They like to "check up". Figure out where the dog is likely to stop and try and pinpoint your position. It might be the top of a ridge, the other side of a gully (looking before they drop in), or the point of a field. By this time of year their kind of skidish and less likely to commit. Use the lip squeak to bring them in that last little bit.

Just got a phone call and one has been caught.
We don't sell the fur. I looked in to it some years back and it just wasn't worth it. Prices were just too low. We do it to protect some sheep and other family pets. Any critter that cooperates will be turned loose with the exception of the coyote. BTW the worst animal to try to turn loose is a feral cat!

I do a little trapping for a farm down the road. They tend to have coyote problems and the dogs have become call shy. (when you know they hear your call but decide to lay down... their shy) I set out a few traps today in hopes of reducing the population a bit. Should I get lucky enough to catch some I'll post up pictures.

TWRA happen to be at the processors and they asked if they could age him. They said he was 2.5 years old which is about what I thought. I tend to guess using the base of the horns vs the teeth.

Harvested this nice size doe on a 300 acre family farm in West Virginia. My Yeti 65 was overflowing with deer meet into an extra styrofoam cooler. Should be eating real good this next year. Dropped with a Browning X-Bolt .308 on the spot. I previously missed on a nice 8 point the day earlier at 50-60yds which left me puzzled and discovered that my scope got bumped somehow during my travels to West Virginia and was way off. Went and had it boresighted after the big miss and then dialed it back in and this doe went down the next day so I knew I was back on track.
Good looking deer and a great looking rifle. Love the Browning rifles.

A few friends and I just leased some property this year. The one area I usually hunt is too small to carry a rifle on so that place is a muzzleloader or bow area only. Taking a couple deer off the new place makes it worth doing.
The rifle I used this morning hasn't killed a deer in probably twenty years. The 7400 was passed down to me many years ago and I put it in the safe as a gun to hand down at some point. The 06 did its job.
Being bucked out, I have to focus on coyote with the .22 mag and taking pictures with the big camera.

I called it a seven because most of the brow tine was broken off. TWRA ruled it an eight point. They must measure a little different than my wife. Guess it depends on where you start the measurement from.

I like the cooler weather moving in. Makes them move a little more.
A small buck was chasing a doe and grunting last Sunday. The pre rut has kicked in. A good friend told me they were chasing like crazy at his place last weekend.

I've passed on several deer this season waiting on the big one. However, I just can't lay off the coyote. No cool story behind this one. No calling or squeaking. She just walked up on me after daylight. The land owner named this dog "Lone Ranger". Always barking and yipping alone.

The first few weeks produced no action at all. I had fox, groundhogs, squirrel, and raccoons. all over me, but no coyote or deer. It all changed last weekend. During the morning hunt a coyote walks in and lays down at fifty yards. I lip squeak several times but he could have cared less. A small doe walks right up on the coyote and they both about jump out of their hides. The coyote moves away from me and the doe walks right to me. She and all other doe get free passes. I like to use them come November
That evening a small doe comes running through the thick stuff and stops right in front of me. Mr. Coyote was right behind her, and once again he went the other way. A small buck comes in just after that, but he was way too young to even think about taking. Now I typically don't come out of the stand till after dark, bumping critters that just start moving when the sun goes down is a no no. And sure enough I hear one moving right behind me. I looked down, and there in the moon light stands big daddy. He winds me and jumps back in the brush and then slowly walks away. Now I couldn't see him in detail but the light colored rack in the moon light looked really big. Can't wait for ML season now.

One little grey fox curled up and laid down under my stand yesterday morning. I had to take a trip to the Chattanooga and watch the Mocs game so no hunting yesterday afternoon.

Rugerla I love my switchback. Hands down the best bow I've owned. I started practicing at the beginning of Aug. As I get older it takes longer to get in shape. I don't have tons of places to hunt but they always seem to produce a few coyote and a deer or two.

Some time back I decided to try several different handguns just to see what I liked best. The 1911's weren't bad and felt good in my hand, but the reliability just wasn't there. Beretta was a good solid shooter and it almost made the cut, but the weight had me wanting to move to a polymer gun. The XD was nice. It's features were kind of cool, in fact it was the first gun that made the carry cut. After having some ftf issues around the 600-700 round mark I simply didn't have the confidence to carry it and believe it to be reliable enough for my ccw. My next move was a Glock 26. I bought the 26 from a fellow TGO member and felt it was a little better than ok. Reliable, light, and easy to disassemble. But it still wasn't the one. And I'll be honest, I've never been a fan of Glocks... until the 17 came home with me. With thousands of rounds down the barrel now it's been a great gun. I'd never rule out trying another make or model but for now it's the Glock.

This time of year it's not uncommon for a female to stick close to a den. I've had farmers tell me that they were able to drive right up to the dens and the female would not leave. Not rabid just protective.
