  1. I find this thread comical.  You talk about getting your second gun, but let's be honest, you just jumped into one of the most addicting hobbies out there.  You might as well just make a list and start saving your pennies.  The only thing you really "need" after you get your second gun will be your third gun, then your fourth, then...

Good luck with your search, I'm not even going to suggest a gun. If I had to pick my "second gun," I have no idea what I would choose.  Hell, I have a hard time choosing my umpteenth gun.  Have fun with it and be safe.

  2. I picked up a left handed one in a 308 recently. Never had a problem with it firing, but straight from the box, the bolt was missing the extractor and spring. Had to send the whole gun back to Ruger, which was annoying, but they fixed it up. Haven't shot much since, but it has not had any more problems as of yet.
  3. The whole 300 yard thing does not bother me too much.  Granted it's not my house that is that close.  I've probably shot at at least ten different outdoor ranges, and I can only think of about two of those that did not have houses within 300 yards.

However, on the design, I agree. I do not like the idea of short inward with everyone basically shooting in the direction of others at the range.  I also agree that two 100 yd ranges does not offer anything more than one 100 yd range with five or six lanes. Of the ranges I've been to, the only time that every lane on a hundred yd range is full is at the beginning of deer season when the hunters come out to shoot a few rounds to check their scopes.

Perhaps consider a shotgun range for trap and/or skeet.  That would not take up much more room than a couple of pistol ranges, but there are not as many places around to shoot shotguns vs handguns and rifles.

  4. My biggest compliant about all of them (not really related to the product) is that none of the stores carry them in a length past 34.  I'm not all that tall, but I wear a 36 inseam.  The latest jeans I have found in my length were from Academy Sports of all places.  I'm sure they are made in china or something, but they are comfortable, the right size, and priced right.  They are Magellan brand.

  5. What type of aneurysm do you have?  Have you spoken with a surgeon regarding the plan for it.  Depending on the location and such, there is a possibility that you could have an endovascular repair.  In which case, the cardiac risk for surgery would be similar to the procedure you had for the heart cath.  For whatever reason, often times, the medicine docs like to try to make the call as to which patients are suitable surgery or not, rather than leaving that decision to the person who will actually be doing the surgery.  When dealing with a cardiologist and possible need for stents and such, there becomes a "fox guarding the hen house" type of a situation.  I would try to talk to the surgeon who will be responsible for repairing the aneurysm sooner rather than later.

  7. I think GM recommends plugs every 100k.  I changed trans fluid about every 75k, differentials once at about 150k, grease everything when I change the oil.  I had to put a new water pump on mine recently, at about 220k, went with new belts at the same time.  It also had a fuel pump at about 200k. I have an '02 Chevy Z71 5.3.  It has about 225k on it, and it's still rocking along.  As for the fuel filter, not sure about your 04, but my 02 has an inline filter just ahead of the tank on the frame rail.

  8. Medical staff but non-MD. Actually it still mystifies me at times, that pager works in the tunnels, my backyard where there is NO cell service, and in the hospital's elevators. It's loud enough on vibrate to wake me from a dead sleep at 4am(shakes the entire night stand) and somehow the single AA battery lasts for months. :stunned:

That's funny.  I totally know what you mean.  I have a love / hate relationship with my pager.  I love how it always works, even when nothing else will.  I bet mine has been dropped a thousand times, it's held together with silk tape, yet it still works like a champ.  I hate them for that too though; I often wake up at night thinking my pager is going off.

    Couple of pens

    Hankie

    Keys

While at work, I can't carry the guns, but everything else goes with me with the addition of some other junk and possibly another pager.

  9. I put a PSA BCG and charging handle in my last build.  I have no complaints so far.  I don't get all excited about extended or tactical charging handles; I don't see the advantage.  They run them on sale pretty often, and it seems to get the job done.

I also bought a Magpul lower build kit from them on sale a while back.  Never was a Magpul fan boy, but I have become rather fond of this stuff I used on my last build.

I bought a .223 Wylde barrel from these folks.  They have some blackout barrels, but I don't see anything longer than 16".  I have been happy with the barrel I got from them.  It is a cheaper barrel, but it seems to be pretty accurate so far.

  10. If you decide you're done hunting, i recommend that get naked as a jay bird, put a mask over your face, and go clean up the bait piles. Then just leave a note on the camera. "You're doing it wrong. Look at the pictures, and you can become a master baiter."
