  1. Are you sure about that? Justice department seems to disagree. From Pardon Information and Instructions : "2. Federal convictions only Under the Constitution, only federal criminal convictions, such as those obtained in the United States District Courts, may be pardoned by the President." Then let me make it very clear: If the feds made it a capital offense to be named "Dave", will you support the LEO who is 'doing his job' when he comes to arrest you? Negative. Federal goverment has no power to regulate the sale and manufacture of firearms. The constitution is crystal clear in this regard. Therefore, this is not a federal issue, and the sc has no say. The states are not required to go beg the sc for permission to do things that are clearly not prohibited by or even addressed by the constitution. The sc cannot just make up jurisdiction to rule on whatever they want to. Not legally, anyway. It may be done that way, but it doesn't work, it has never worked, and it was certainly never intended to be done that way by the founding fathers. That is the problem. The only reason the feds get away with it because so many people have been brainwashed into believing that sc is God and has final say on everything. The supreme court is not my tyrant. I will claim my rights as affirmed by the constitution. If you want to claim your rights as affirmed by Sonia Sotomayor, that's your decision. I grow tired of this debate, so this is my final word on this topic.
  2. How can the feds pardon a state felony conviction? Regardless? What if the feds outlawed people named Dave? Again, fighting the feds in federal court - you have lost before you start. You are asking the feds (SCOTUS is a branch of the federal government) to decide for you against themselves. Not gonna happen. The fact is, the federal government has no say in this, it is written out clearly in the constitution, and we don't need them (SCOTUS/President/Congress=feds) to give permission. They should be asking the states for permission, but they've taken the strategy of don't ask permission, just do it and ignore the constitution. Then the states beg the feds (a creation of the states) to reconsider, a.k.a. fight it in federal court. It's nonsense.
  3. Yup, that's how it works. Maybe one day someone will refuse to sell their rights.
  4. The U.S. Justice Department can dismiss N.H. State felony charges? Hmmmm.... It is likely just fluff. But it doesn't have to be. You are falling for the federal government's line that the states are subject to whatever they (the fed's) say. If the states choose not to allow the federal government to enforce unconstitutional law, there is nothing the federal courts can do about it. All the states have to do is ignore them. As long as we insist on fighting the federal government in federal court, we are going to lose. If we are stupid enough to continue that strategy, we don't even deserve to win.
  5. Took my obligatory visit to wal-mart last night as a new HCP holder. Since I was carrying a .45, I couldn't resist the violent urges and subsequently shot 14 people. In my defense, 2 of them looked at me funny and I thought there was a good chance another one might try to take my parking spot. The others were mostly just dressed weird.
  6. This is really a 10th ammendment issue, but since it relates to the Firearms Freedom Act movement, I am posting it here. Mods, please relocate if this is not appropriate. Some New Hampshire legislators want to go a step further with the whole 10th ammendment/nullification/Firearms Freedom concept. They want to make it a felony for federal agents to enforce federal firearms laws in violation of this state law. I've no idea how much support this bill has, but let's face it - if states are serious about nullification under the 10th ammendment, this is the only way to do it. 7. Back when my wife and I were newlyweds, I went outside to investigate some noises one evening. After slipping quietly out and around to the front porch, my wife 'helpfully' turned on the porch light, blinding me and lighting me up like I was onstage. I patiently explained to her why this was not good. Okay, maybe I wasn't all that patient...
  8. Me too! Me too! :hyper:
  9. You know, it was posted somewhere on here that they expected to issue something like 65,000 permits in the last few weeks of december. With all the people who were apparently issued on 12/18, that now doesn't seem so ridiculous. Every person I have heard of that applied before the end of November seems to have been issued on that date.
  10. Actually it is 'discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions (dishonorable discharge, bad conduct discharge or other than honorable discharge)'. General (under honorable conditions) is not considered dishonorable, and is therefore eligible for HCP.
  11. Sorry, I misunderstood. I think they should give it to you after you take the class and fill out the application. Then they can do all the background checks they want, if it makes hoplophobes feel better. Then, if they find something wrong, they could call and say "We've discovered that you are not allowed to carry a firearm, which you certainly knew all along. Therefore, you have been carrying illegally. We are sure that you will continue to carry illegally, but the stupid little laminated card you have is now officially revoked."
  12. I was surprised that California already allows open carry, to a degree. The gun can't be loaded, but you can have a loaded mag on one side of your belt and the gun on the other. Try that in Tennessee without an HCP and you are breaking the law.
  13. Nothing in the mail for me today. 79 days and counting. Are my rights being infringed yet?
  14. Agreed. Revoke later if it turns out you are not allowed to have one. The whole thing is stupid, anyway. It isn't as though a felon who manages to get an HCP is somehow legal to carry now. They are still breaking the law either way (and they will probably still carry either way, FWIW.)
  15. Has anyone who was told they were issued on 12/18 received a permit yet? As of today's mail, I still don't have mine.
  16. They did tell me 10-14 business days - She was very specific about it being business days, too. With the holidays, that puts us all the way to 1/11/2010. I don't know if I can take it!
  17. Seems a lot of people have been told that their permits were issued on 12/18. I called today and was told that mine had been issued then, also. Was that like a mass issue day before the end of the year or something? I called the morning of 12/18 and was told it was still processing. It almost seems that they issued all permits that were close to 90 days on that date to clear out the backlog or something.
  18. I'm still waiting. 10 weeks today since did my fingerprints.
  19. Looks to me like they are sold out.
  20. I fingerprinted on 10/20 and mine is still processing.
  21. Called DOS today. Was told my application is 'still processing.' I'm at 59 days.
  22. I called today and was told it's still processing. I'm at 52 days.
  23. Somehow this thread has drifted into a referendum on the pros and cons of external safeties. Since I have strong feelings on this subject, I will add my 2 cents: I don't like 'em. I want a gun that goes bang when I pull the trigger. I can remember too many times, as a kid, lining up a shot with my .22 and squeezing the trigger only to find that it wouldn't budge because the blasted safety was on. I don't want that to happen when my life is on the line. I prefer a long DA trigger pull for myself. To me, that is the safest thing going, much better than any external safety. Since the only pistol I shot much growing up was a .38, the trigger pull does not bother me. YMMV.
  24. Completely valid point, and I agree 100%. However, I can't imagine anybody thinking I have a wild west attitude or anything like that. Trust me, I am not that guy. Quite the opposite in fact. After I had kids I took up the habit of walking into my father's house whenever we went for a visit and immediately unloading/securing any firearm he had accessible (Dad now locks them up before we get there). I don't think it is a case of anybody believing I am likely to be irresponsible with guns. I think it is just hoplophobia. This same guy is a motorcycle nut - that is something I see as dangerous. I don't think he forbids his kid from going where there is a swimming pool, nor does he verify that the pool is 100% secure beforehand. As we all know, a swimming pool is much more dangerous to kids that a house full of guns. I would love to educate him, but I'm not going to make it my life's mission or anything. I have so little tolerance for silly people. About not trusting someone just because they have an HCP - if my HCP class did anything, it was to cause me to question whether everyone should be allowed to have a gun. lol... there were some people in there did not inspire the greatest confidence!
