'Crazy', 'Nut', 'Fringe', 'Nazi', 'Fascist'. All code words for "I disagree with you but I'm incapable of arguing my point in a rational way. Please go away and don't make me look any dumber than I already do."

Absolutely right it could happen here, which is why we must remain vigilant. I love it when people say "Quit worrying - nobody is going to take your guns." The reason nobody will take my guns is precisely because I'm always worried about it. The minute we drop our guard, they will pass some draconian law that we will never get rid of (See: 1934, 1968, 1986).

I agree. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And I'm not so sure there would be a massive 'run for the hills' migration. Most people are conditioned to wait on the government to rescue them. Of course, I would be headed for the hills, but only because that's where my family is. If there is a place where most of the population is related to you, that is your best bet, IMHO.

Recent Knoxville Home Invasions

Whoa... I've never thought of that. Thanks for the heads up. -
I have heard this - that overpenetration is really not a concern with a 55gr 5.56, especially hollow point. I plan to test it out on some mockup walls and such in the near future. In the meantime, I've begun keeping my AR in a handy location at home.

I agree that nobody really knows what an EMP would do, and One Second After probably overstates it. It is an absolute worst-case scenario. But I think it was written that way intentionally, to make it easier to see the devastation that would result. Anyone interested in EMP should read "Report of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the U.S. from EMP Attack – Critical National Infrastructures" (Google it). They point to SCADA systems as the biggest vulnerability, and it doesn't take a lot of imagination to see how widespread failure of the computers controlling our electrical, water, etc. could cause a total meltdown. Just because cars will still work won't matter when everyone runs out of gas and the refineries are all toast because their systems malfunctioned and they burnt to the ground. And don't forget that an EMP is not all we need to be concerned about - a Carrington Event could have much the same result. :D

Wow. This thread came a long way from buying ammo at WallyWorld.

Anyone Carrying a .380 Pocket Pistol Might Find this interesting

Good info. Thanks. -
I'm one of those guys. I wanted an inexpensive AR to become familiar with the platform. It is perfect for that and a blast to shoot. I can upgrade it as I like, one piece at a time, until I have a complete 'high-end' rifle if that is what I decide I want to do. And now I will have a better idea of exactly what I want.

Agreed. Let's see it!

Airport screening, going wayyyy too far.

My view is the people who live in fear of being killed by terrorists should stay home and let the rest of us go about our daily business without being harrassed so that they can live in the illusion of safety. The world is not a safe place. Deal with it. Those who are too scared to fly without a scrotum check should not fly. -
My wife left the house carrying tonight for the first time. She's had her HCP for about 6 months or so but would never carry before. She saw the story about the Conn. home invasion today and it pushed her to do it. And she DOES know how to shoot.

OhShoot has a valid point. You are justified in using deadly force to defend yourself, but up until the point where you did that you were breaking the law by being armed. Kinda silly.

You can look at it from the other side, too. If he were not known to be pro-2A, he might very well have lost. Would you have voted for him?

5th district - Cooper vs. Hall: Thoughts?
shortround replied to shortround's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm not convinced they will attempt to get this seat through redistricting. Davidson County is so heavily liberal that you would need to chop it into 4 or 5 sections, with each of those sections being joined with more conservative neighboring counties, to outweigh the libs in Davidson. Your margin would still be so thin that you would run the risk of losing 2 or more of those districts when the pendulum goes the other way. I think they will continue to isolate all the libs in Davidson and Shelby and concede those to the Democrats. -
Scott DesJarlais don't need no stinkin' bullets

All we know for sure is that none of these allegations were taken seriously enough to even warrant investigation. If he is really a wife-beater, his ex-wife (who apparently hates him), certainly didn't pursue it very hard. So it boils down to whether or not you believe everything said by a bitter ex-wife during divorce proceedings. As for the child support stuff, apparently he went to court after his income decreased and again after his child started spending more time with him to ask that his child-support be adjusted accordingly. Seems reasonable to me - if your kid is spending half the time with you, why should you still have to send 100% child support to your ex? I don't think there is even an accusation that he tried to get away with paying less than what the law requires. In his case, he probably paid 30-40k/year for the 1 child, which certainly seems like a decent amount of child support to me. Disclaimer: I don't live in this district and had no interest whatsoever until I saw this commercial. I had to check it out because the claims seemed so outrageous. Lincoln Davis is lowlife scum, IMHO. -
5th district - Cooper vs. Hall: Thoughts?
shortround replied to shortround's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Thanks for all the responses, guys. I'm feeling a little more optimistic - maybe Hall can pull it off. Let's hope so. Would love to see Cooper GONE!! -
Anyone have any thoughts on whether Hall has a chance to unseat Cooper? I don't know much about Mr. Hall, but I've got to believe he would be an improvement.
