I have a Taurus 1911 and having feeding problems with it. How much (ball park figure) do you think I would be paying a gunsmith, say at Guns And Leather to look it over and have the problem fixed?

Yep. I got some of the Taurus copper bullets last xmas, I fired one and it jammed on the next one. Does the same with Hornady's and Winchesters. It will do this with all mags, the two factory ones and a couple aftermarket ones. I recall someone saying that 1911's have issues with hollowpoints and that the feeding ramp needs to be polished. I'm no gunsmith so I don't know what I need to do.

At least 400, never had a jam with ball ammo.

185gr Remington Golden Sabre is a great round for the Taurus 1911. Halfpint hooked me on those when I had some feeding problems with other JHPs. I'd run a couple of mags through it just to be sure, but that load along with a couple of Wilson Combat mags should fix your problem. That's how I ran my Taurus all winter.
