Looking for my next school

Has anyone here been through a grad program at ETSU? I'm looking to go for a Master's of Science(Microbiology) or, if I'm lucky, go straight to the PhD of Science(Microbiology).

I was just curious as to their resources and how well funded the grad programs are before I made the trip up there to check it all out.

What are you wanting to do with that degree? That's a question that needs to be addressed to gauge your fit for a school.

I've been thinking a lot about that. I'd like to be the head of a lab one day, like the ones your doctor sends samples to when he takes blood, etc.

Even better, possibly be a member of the CDC in Atlanta.

Finally, join the Navy under officer spec ops in the biological/chemical warfare division.

With the first two, I'd probably teach online just for the extra cash...my mom makes pretty good teaching critical thinking and English online.

Pick a pretty day and make the drive. Beautiful area up there. Best way to gauge the program is to go talk to the students and faculty in the program. If anything, it will be a nice road trip. While you are there, eat at Pal's; there is just something great about those places.

Check and see if Hillsdale as what you need.

Hillsdale is only an undergraduate institution. Great school though. I used to speak at Hillsdale on occasion and have always been very impressed with their faculty and student body. The percentage of their grads who go on to grad school is astounding. If you ever see a guy walking around in Mid Tn with a Hillsdale shirt on, it's probably me.

I'm hoping to make the drive soon and I'll check out Pal's.

I've heard it was a good school and when I was pre-med, I was thinking of going to med school there.

If you're looking to get a doctorate down the road you need t completely forget the regional thing. Go where ever they are doing the research you are interested in.

If you're just after a job, screw that, just go med school. Those guys get all the work they want.

I am planning on sending both of my children to Hillsdale. They don't take federal funding of any sort so they can teach the way it should be. Also, they cover their own student loans and have an astronomical repayment rate.

If you are planning on going military - you may want to speak to a recruiter. I know they typically are for the enlisted guys but they might be able to point you in a good direction not to mention possibly get you government money to boot.

You might as well get back some of what you put in.

I tried to set up a meeting with a recruiter, but when they found out I was interested in the officer corp, they said they couldn't help. They said there are no officer recruiters in my area and just gave me a 1-800 number to call...I have yet to call.
