.357/ .38?

Can any revolver chambered for .357 also accept .38SP rounds? I've noticed that some .357's apparently accept .38+p's. Would they also accept standard .38 rounds? Conversely, can any .38 handle .357 rounds?

Any revolver chambered for .357mag will also chamber any .38 special (+P or standard). On the flip side, a revolver chambered for .38 special can not physically chamber a .357mag. The .357mag is too long to fit in the cylinder of a .38 special revolver. Even if it did fit, the pressure generated by a .357mag is much greater than that of a .38 Special and would likely damage the gun and your hand.

The .357 Mag is simply a 38 spl. that's been lengthen 1/10" so as not to be able to chamber in a 38 spl. gun because the .357 Mag works at almost double the pressure as a standard pressure 38 spl. 38 spl +P is simply a 38 spl that's loaded to a slightly higher pressure for use in med. or large frame 38's or in 357 Mag revolvers. A 357 Mag can shoot standard 38's and 38 +P, a good quality 38 spl(like the S&W K frame) can shoot 38 spl and 38+P but not 357 Mag.

Yep what they said. My wifes first gun was a .357 rossi that I taught her to shoot with .38s and moved up to .357

you can also shoot 44spl from a 44mag... I think so double check 454cassul and .410 shells from a .45colt there are several interchangeable guns and rounds. Just make sure you read up first so you dont have a KB

IIRC you can shoot 45 Colt from a 454 but not 410 shells as they'd be too long. There is a pistol out there that is chambered for the 410 shotshell that'll shoot 45 Colt though but revolvers in 45 Colt won't shot the 410. The new S&W 460 Mag can shoot 460, 454 and 45 Colt.
