  1. I'd say for most ladies, a subbie .38+P revolver with hollow point rounds, is the most ideal weapon to have. No racking, jamming is almost unheard of in revolvers, ease of cleaning after shooting is a breeze, and one in Ultralight weight is ideal for the ladies while carrying. Put a lazer on the handle and you've got a reliable weapon that's been around for a long time for self defense for either man or lady. I've carried a concealed firearm for over 40 years. Had both , semi -auto and revolver guns. I loved my semi-auto Walthers PPk .380 until one day at the range, thank God, it jammed after 3 rds rapid fire. That's all it took , just one little old jam, to steer me back to carrying a revolver. I had carried a revolver for years before the semi-auto's became the rage of the town. Put more rounds thru the revolver than I care to think about. Never failed me once. Once that semi auto jammed, I learned my lesson. Now the 'bride' has had a desire to have a 'carry' gun and she's happy with my suggestion for a J-frame .38. She tried both styles at a range and feels the revolver is the best choice. So do I. Just my opinion. Whatever works best for 'the little lady' is the best choice, I'd say. After all, they're the one using it.
  2. The area around Lenoir City in LOUDON County is nice. Fort Loudoun Medical Center - Covenant Health Great hosp located there.
  3. The 9/11 site is NY/NJ Port Authority property, not NYC property. That being the case, I'd say they probably have metal detectors or you get 'wanded' at the site, but I can't swear to it, since I myself have not been there to visit the memorial. If they decide to post a No Firearm sign, it's their privilage. The great state of TN have them posted all over the state on store fronts. Actually, folks can own a firearm in NYC. It's just difficult to get a handgun permit since it's not a 'shall issue' state. It's strictly up to the Police Commisioner of NYC. He's not a pro gun person. If a person lives outside of NYC boundries, then a judge or a police chief can issue permits as he feels it's needed , but to carry in NYC you must also have a NYC permit... In States that have' WILL issue' laws, you'll usually you'll get your permit in a resonable time , if you qualify with state law. There are tens of Thousands of legal gun owners in NYC & NYS combined. They just don't make it easy for the average person in many counties, to have a handgun. Rifles & Shotguns in most counties do not need any permit, but NYC you must have a permit even for them. $$$$$$$ So it's true that if she kept quiet and no detectores were there, she'd get away with it. I suspect she saw the detectors and made her comment. She really didn't do her homework with gun laws of NYC & NYS. She paid the price. If you bring a firearm into another state, there is a responcibility to know the gun laws in that state that you visit. You can discuss the 2nd Amend right to own & carry firearms all day. Until the laws reflect that right, you better read up on gun laws as most responciable folks do when transporting guns across State lines.

  5. In NY state, if you have a NYS Carry permit, it's NOT good in NYC. NYC has their own permit. The airports are in NYC. So to carry in NYC, one must have a NYC permit. If you're a NYC resident and want to carry outside of NYC then you must have a NYC permit and a NYS permit also. A retired police officer from any NY police department can carry in NYS & NYC. Presently, a PO from anywhere in the US can carry concealed anywhere in the US on a "HR 218" lic.. He must follow the state laws that prohibit carry in 'restricted areas'. Exp~~Court rooms, Govt buildings, etc etc. The arrest's took place in airports that are policed by New York Port Authority Police. They are not NYPD. Since NYS does not honor out of state permits and if for some reason, you have a firearm either on your person or in luggage that comes into your possesion if by chance you have a problem with a connecting flight or a cancellation of your flight and you get your luggage handed to you, you're in deep do-do with Port Authority PD when you recheck your luggage and a handgun shows up in the security check. That's what generally happens with these arrests. The person has a legit lic in their residence state and lawfully placed the firearm in their luggage and declared it to the TSA at their home airport. When they arrive in NY , the luggage is not checked with x-ray. When they are going back home, it gets checked . If they actually tell the TSA they have a firearm,( by law you must do this) or it shows up in the x-ray , they WILL call Port Authority PD to the security check. The PAPD WILL ask you for a NYS lic. No NYS lic, you get cuffed. Plain & simple. If you drive into NYC or NYS by your vehicle and you don't check out the various firearm carry laws in other states, then you deserve a swift kick in the backside to wake you up as to the real world. It really stinks, but that's what the NYS law says. The PD has NO CHOICE but to arrest. It's the District Attorney that can make arrangements to void the arrests. Some DA's (not all) are extreme anti-gun advocates that make them happy to prosecute. They just don't care what the circumstances were. The general feelings with Mr & Mrs NY's opinions for Air travlers caught up in the system, is for releasing these travelers from other states . Give them a reprimand and send them on their way with their firearm properly contained in their luggage.. Auto travelers should probably be fined, maybe conficate the firearm, like most states will do if you're caught carrying illeagally in that state. No jail time. Case closed. Not much has been rervealed as to what the NY courts are going to do with these innocent Air 'commuters' from out of state. Hopefully common sense will prevail.
  6. A little know item is Aluminum wiring . A serious fire potential. Homes built in the early 70's had it due to the cost of copper was sky high due to vietnam war.If the house was built later on, you're probably good with all copper wire. You mentioned that you'd have your Dad take a look. That's great! If he's owned a house and he was an average homeowner who learned to do syuff by himself, then he's the guy to listen too. A House engineer is also a good investment, no matter what some here have said. I've bought 4 houses in my time, used them each time and was very comfortable with their reports. Use your eyes and nose when checking the house yourself. You'll be surprised what you can learn. Another thing is , if the house has the appliances with the sale of the house, check the Model & Serial numbers on the appliance and have it stated in the contract that those serial numbered appliances will be included in the sale. I got stiffed once by unsavory owner who swapped refridg on me, after I did the walk thru inspection before closing on the house. Go through the house with your Real Estate person as a witness. Got stuck with a piece of crap. Nothing in the contract to prove that it was swapped. That never happened to me again, because I had it in future contracts, all serial numbers. Good luck with the house.
  7. Thanks all for the warm welcome. Jonnin, I'm coming down with an arsenel. Been shooting for many , many years. I just started to get into reloading. Not too many gun stores on Long Island . Few & far between. Those that are around, have prices out the roof..
