  1. So according to the current law, the "bars" downtown on Broadway have to post or you can carry there also? This is the first I've heard of this, I'm glad you guys come quick and correct with the information.
  2. Ah thanks for that guys. I wasn't completely sure. And I'm not sure what you mean by, "there are no bars here anyways." Care to clarify?
  3. I understand that if a restaurant is posted, no carry, but I have a question regarding seating in the bar area. This is what I found on handgunlaw.us, with the part in question in bold : Carry in Restaurants That Serve Alcohol YES Note: A ―YES‖ above means you can carry into places like described below. ―NO‖ means you can’t. Handgunlaw.us definition of ―Restaurant Carry‖ is carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol. Places like Friday’s. Chili’s or Red Lobster. This may or may not mean the bar or the bar area of a restaurant. But you can carry your firearm into a restaurant that serves alcohol and sit and eat without consuming. Handgunlaw.us recommends you not sit at the Bar or in the Bar area of such restaurants. In some states it is illegal to be in the Bar area of such restaurants. Handgunlaw.us believes you should never consume alcohol when carrying your firearm. In some states it is illegal to take even one drink while carrying a firearm. If you want further info on carrying in places that serve alcohol check your state laws. So for those who have more knowledge than I do, is it legal to sit in the bar area? I know it's easier to just not sit there, but in some restaurants I've been to there isn't a really definitive split between the "bar area and bar seating" from the rest of the seating. Any help is appreciated.
  4. October 3: Finally got the right Crossbreed Supertuck in the mail! Wore it all afternoon and evening that day. Really comfortable even with my full-size pistol.
  5. As far as take down for basic cleaning and maintenance, which one of the three would be the easiest? Hardest?
  6. So when it comes to oil vs. grease, it's really up to personal opinion as far as what you use on a pistol? I have an FNX, and in the manual it makes no mention of a specific type of lubrication.
  7. Ah thanks for the info. This is probably a newb question...what's the difference between oiling and greasing?
  8. Do you have one ? Any experiences? Money. That's the only reason. Otherwise I would go the conversion route. Yes, I know, but for me having two systems that run the same ammunition (In this case, 9mm) would be a little more convenient.
  9. JAB - that's how I originally thought the law addressed the issue, and through discussions on this thread I've come back to that position, so I will not be drinking even a single sip of alcohol while carrying.
  10. I have seen those, but for me the M&P still has the edge in that department because it also shares the same battery of arms as full caliber ARs. I am keeping that in mind though.
  11. I currently have a 9mm pistol, but I'm looking into getting a long gun to start learning my way around them. I've done some preliminary research involving online research, reviews and videos along with some range time with a Sub-2000 and handling a 15/22 in the store. So far these are the three choices I'm looking at, with some pros and cons for each. Ruger 10/22 Pros + One of the most highly recommended 22s I've come across. + TONS of aftermarket modification. + Cheap price. Cons - For some reason, my hand doesn't do well with the grip style. Much more comfortable with a pistol gripe style. M&P 15/22 Pros + Similar battery of arms to a real AR - a platform I eventually want to move up into using. + I've held one in store and it was really comfortable to handle. + From what I know, can take AR mods - triggers, mounts, scopes, etc. Cons - Price: around $500 for one, lots more than the Ruger. Keltec Sub-2000 Pros + I have shot this one in 9mm, and it was so much fun to shoot. + Felt great to handle, had no problems being a left handed shooter. + 9mm -> same round my pistol is chambered in, so there's some commonality there. + Could use this is some form of defense role. + Compact, folding design Cons - Ammunition price more expensive than 22Lr - Price is still more than the Ruger. Now, this was just a quick list I typed up. I'm looking at the 15/22 because I want to learn about ARs and their battery of arms, but I also like the Sub2K because it can be realistically used in some sort of defensive role while still being a fun plinker. Any input from you guys? Anyone have experience with these three? The Ruger is very commonplace - I really want to see if anyone has input for the M&P and the Keltec. Thanks for looking.
  12. I just have my FNX-9 pistol right now, but since it's my daily carry gun I would rather it be as clean as possible within reason. but thank you for the info.
  13. This is basically what I was saying in my first post. I was really more curious if anyone had legitimate horror stories from JUST using Breakfree CLP for cleaning and lubrication or horror stories from using it when paired with a dedicated solvent / lube. Thanks for all the input everyone. I suppose I will try out just Breakfree CLP alone for a little while and maybe snag some Hoppe's #9 solvent and see if the gun ends up cleaner.
  14. Not as long as you use some clean ammunition. Then you never have to clean your guns.
  15. Thanks for the replies everyone. I was thinking of picking up some Hoppe's #9 for a solvent then throwing the Breakfree CLP on afterwards for the lube. I've read that since Breakfree CLP is a 3-in-1 kind of thing, it's not great at anything. Would you guys suggest just picking up actual dedicated lube / oil or will CLP be good enough to use?
  16. There are so many different solvents / oils / all-in-ones out there it's enough to make my new to handgun's head spin. Personally, I bought a cheap little kit that had Outer's Solvent and Oil. Now that has just about run out, I sprung for a can of Breakfree CLP that I have not used yet. Looking up information on this one I've come across even more, Ballistol, Gunzilla, etc. I realize this might come down to almost all well-known ones will work well and it's up to personal choice, but what do you use to clean and lube your gun? Anyone have experience with Breakfree CLP or any other suggestions for me to use?
  17. Yeah, when I carry I have decided not to drink AT ALL. Same way that if I know I have to drive somewhere, I won't even have JUST ONE. Something I'm willing to give up to err on the side of safety. And I'm very let down I got the wrong holster! I hope they Priority Mail me the correct one. September 29 Update: Called up Crossbreed yesterday asking what I should do to fix this problem, they promptly called me back around 8am this morning. Talked him through what happened, he had me do a really odd check to make sure I could verify it was a right-handed holster, and when the rep was assured I was sent the wrong thing he quickly and politely informed me that they would be shipping out the correct product expeditiously along with paying for shipping return for the right-handed holster I received. Great customer service so far! Time to wait for my new one.
  18. Update! September 28, 2011. Crossbreed Supertuck arrived in the mail! Tore into the package....and it was a right handed holster. I had ordered a left handed holster, but I guess human error happens. Called them up, got an answering machine and requested instructions on what I should do to return this and get a left handed holster.
  19. I was somewhat hoping to not get this answer, but thank you for the information. I'm sure there have been good stories and horror stories using both approaches, so I guess it does come down to how I feel at the time.
  20. So in TN, you are NOT required to tell the cop up front that you are an HCP holder and have a gun in the car, but if he ASKS you about it then you have to show him your HCP? Would it be advised to just hand over your HCP with your Drivers License at the start?
  21. Well, my whole point was that before I knew that this was clearly 2 people who were attacking the victim for no reason other than the fact that she was transgendered, I had no idea what the situation in the video was showing. It could have been that the "victim" may have attacked one of the attackers before hand, and they were retaliating in defense. My point being, I just didn't know what the circumstances were. Crime should be punished, I agree with you completely there. It's like if you watch a video, and all that is shown is someone shooting another person dead. People will be quick to assume, Oh that is a crazy criminal who just killed that innocent man! I've learned that there's always certain motivations behind acts, and you shouldn't draw final conclusions until you know the situation. At least that's how I think. The whole video may have actually been a man was attacking another person, and that guy was a legal HCP holder, drew his gun and shot the other guy in self defense. Knowing the whole story changes people's perspectives, that's all I'm trying to say.
  22. Whoah, I had no idea about the backstory. This changes things a little. If the attack was clearly shown as something going on on the grounds of a hate crime, then I would feel more compelled to do something about it. And yes, I think the lawsuit against McDonalds is a good idea for the victim.
  23. I've seen this video a while back, but only a shorter version. And I will preface everything I say by saying I don't know the story behind the attack, so the only facts I can base my call off of are what is shown in the video. First, I'm amazed that the employees at McDonalds would let this go on like that in their store. I am studying Psychology and I know all about the bystander effect, but that doesn't excuse the fact that management didn't seem to be actively doing anything. They might have called the police, but I feel like they should take a more active approach in dealing with things like this. The update from McDonald's posted on that link also is a typical cookiecutter answer. As far as what I personally would do, it's very hard for me to accurately say that. The way the video and the text description is portrayed, it makes you want to jump in and help the victim. But, like I said, the full circumstances of what's going on are still up for question. It's easy to say it's some black girls just beating up a white girl, but you never know. That being said, I would like to think I would have tried to break up the fight and separate the two parties involved until authorities get there. I would NOT have pulled my gun on anyone unless my life was being put in serious direct danger. It's hard for me to say for sure what I would do in this, or any, situation. It's always fun to speculate, though, I suppose, and to begin to mentally prepare yourself for such occurrences.
