  1. I'm about to pick one up as well.  I fondled one the other day and liked it enough to decide to buy one.  The trigger is actually really good IMO and it feels great in the hands.  It felt as good as the VP9 I held.  The decocker is a non issue to me.  It really took some pressure for me to actuate it and I can't imagine it would decock the gun accidentally.

Yeager did a video on it and has a few in rotation for his training classes.  He claims that nobody has ever accidentally decocked one.

At it's price point, I feel like it's a great value.

  2. I got one as a Christmas present and I love it.  I've put about 300rds through it so far with no malfunctions.  It carries like a dream too....super thin and lightweight.

I'm going to check out those mag gut kits as well.  Never heard of em before.

  3. Any users of the Hornady L&L AP out there?

I've had one for several years now and love it.  It's a great press and Hornady's customer service rivals Dillon's.  I've broken a part or two and they send replacements free of charge even though it was my fault and I told them so.  Caliber changes are really quick with Hornady's bushing system.  Switching calibers with same size primer takes a matter of seconds.

I really can't think of anything to complain about.

With all that said, I'm sure you would be happy with the Dillon also.  They have a strong following

  4. I have followed it. I do want the slide milled instead of a dovetail mount. It adds time and money to send the slide and have it done vs buying it ready to go. If it were not for this I don't think I would have as hard of a time deciding.

Yep, I totally understand.  I just really don't want the extra length and weight.  Plus I just won a gen 3 SF on gunbroker for $430 so I can stomach paying $145 for the slide milling a little easier.

  5. I don't plan to suppress a 10mm BUT I didn't plan to get the other two suppressors that I do have, so it is something in the back of my mind on any new purchase. A RMR is a good possibility, this is the main reason I'm thinking about the 40.

I want an RMR on mine, so I'll either be sending it for the slide cut or buying a dovetail mount.  I started a thread about getting your slide machined a little while ago, so if you are interested take a look.

  6. Suppressing a supersonic pistol cartridge doesn't seem to make much sense. If you're going to suppress a pistol .45 would seem like the obvious choice. Not practical to carry a pistol with a suppressor attached anyway, though target practice and plain old fun are good enough reasons.

It actually makes a lot of sense.  Do you have any experience with suppressors to base your opinion?  The muzzle blast of 10mm is intense, as well as any centerfire pistol of any caliber.  Not that I need to justify it, but hunting with suppressors is great.  Obviously you aren't going to wear ear pro the whole time because you need to hear game coming in.  You likely won't have time to throw muffs on before taking a shot, so suppressors do the work for you.  I like being able to take a shot without my ears ringing for half a day.

  7. I was debating G20 vs. G40 a few weeks ago as well.  I've decided on the 20 for multiple reasons, some of which may not apply to you, including suppressor use.  Add a suppressor onto a 6" barrel and you have quite a long setup.  The 20 is lighter and shorter, thus more appropriate for suppressor use.  You also do not give up much in the way of speed with a 4.6" vs 6" barrel.  According to ballistics by the inch, using a Hornady 200xtp, you only lose approximately 69 fps.  This number hardly makes it worth the added length/weight to me.  Plus, I can gain most of it back by tweaking handloads

Once again, your intended use is a little different and you may really feel the need to get that extra 69 fps.

  8. The Glock failure photo was in regards to Comms response to SWJewellTN suggesting he get a Gen. 4 Glock 20 . I would say it's safe to say that Comms may be the Number one 10mm Resident Fanboy around this forum. The photo I posted was a random Glock 20 catastrophic failure aka Glock Kaboom or KB of which there are no shortages of Glock KB's on the interwebs. Glock had some major issues early on between the NY trigger saga and catastrophic failures. Glock has done quite well considering all the negative PR they endured early on. Check here for more on Glock KB's

    http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/glock-kb-faq.html

I'm not a die hard Glock hater, more like I drank the koolade and it didn't take or maybe left a bad taste. I prefer my hand guns to be made with metal and wood. I do own a couple of polymer frame handguns and may own more in the future but chances are slim that they will be a Glock. Like I said under the photo on the original post, "I ain't bashing just having FUN". Another one of my failed attempts at a little humor I guess.[/quote]
    Damn proud of it too!

Ive TRIED to get my Glock to blow up. 10.7gr of 800X under a 180gr plated projo didnt do it I dont know what will.

Comms - I'll likely be acquiring a G20 very soon and will be handloading some nuclear ammo for it.  Are you running the factory barrel?  If so, have you noticed any ill effects from not having a fully supported chamber?  Excessive case bulge or anything like that?

I'm planning on getting a gen 3 SF for what it's worth.

I got my G34 cut and ordered a pre-cut slide for my 19.  OST has been at the forefront of the RMR from the start.  It's $145 for the cut and suppressor sights.

I actually talked to Tom on Friday.  He said if I got it to him pretty soon, he could have it back to me in 3 weeks.  They will also be offering pre-cut slides for the G20, but he said they won't be in production until 2nd quarter 2016.

I've also thought about doing something like this:  http://www.midwayusa.com/product/448637/trijicon-rmr-pistol-mount-glock-matte

Seems like a good non permanent solution although it would put the sight a little higher and you would lose back up sights.

  10. What are options for picking up a FA as far as dealers, and weapons.  Looking at getting something in the 3-6K range, and thinking about doing something before the end of the year.   Any dealers on this site holding one now?

I'm semi (no pun intended) in the market myself.  I don't believe you will find anything FA for 3k.  Even Mac's are pushing 5-6k now.  I had intended on getting a m11 9mm, but at those prices I may end up saving a bit more for an UZI.

    Take a look here:  http://dealernfa.com/

  11. I've had 4 slides done by these guys counting the one they have right now.  One of those was a G20.

    http://www.onesourcetactical.com/suareztrijiconrmrinstallation.aspx#.VDskoxaVEa4

Turnaround is a few weeks as I recall, assuming you don't have them recoat the milled section.  Obviously I've been happy with their work, or I wouldn't keep sending them slides :-)

    Cheers,

    Rusty

Mind posting a pic of your G20 setup?

If I'm reading them correctly, $145 includes milling AND plain black suppressor sights? Without refinishing the slide that is.  Seems like a great deal.

  12. Just bought my second Shield... wife wanted one and I wasn't giving her mine! She also has a Smith 638 (that's the j frame with the enshrouded trigger) coming that she doesn't know about. Love the Shield, and I'm just a Smith fan in general. Yes. I'm biased. :-)

Santa bought me a shield too, but I don't get to touch it till Christmas.  Looking forward to shooting/carrying it.  Santa went with 9mm...so I hear.

  13. The 40 isnt any much heavier than the 20 to be honest, maybe a few ounces IF that - I dont personally own a 40 but fired one with a RMR and it was hardly a difference from my 20.

Plus nothing is sexier than a giant 10mm hand cannon.

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

Well it's not so much the weight of the gun alone, but I'll be using a suppressor quite a bit so length comes into play there too.  Another inch or so and another ounce or so adds up.  It seems like the 20 would be a more manageable package with a can on the end.

  14. So, I want a 10mm glock with an RMR on top.  I like the idea of a G40 MOS but it seems hefty to be carrying around the woods.  I would prefer to have a G20, but I was wondering who to send it to and how much it would cost to get the slide cut for an RMR?

Since we are on the topic, has anyone tried the Burris fastfire?  That would be a little more affordable if it will hold up to 10mm abuse.

  15. What was your OAL for the G17? Ill be experimenting with them in my 17L for future GSSF matches

I'll have to check my notes when I get home, but it may not help you because I'm using an aftermarket Silencerco barrel.

  16. I wouldn't base a decision solely on a torture test unless he's Mil/Leo or a survivalist living in a jungle. Is he going to be using it in a harsh environment or battlefield?

No battlefields.  He's not basing it solely on this test....was on the fence anyway.

  17. I was pretty shocked it failed right away as well.  I expected more from HK.

My brother is in the market and looking at the VP9 as an option.  I sent him the video and he's now leaning more toward a G17.

I agree the test was extreme at the end, but falling in a mud hole?  Hell, that is completely plausible.

  18. I'd definitely take the axis over the Ruger.
Yes, the Ruger honestly is a better quality rifle, but the accuracy simply cannot compare.
The axis is quite simply the most accurate, out of the box, sub $300 on the market right now.
If you keep your eyes open, Cabelas often have them on sale at $249 with savage's $50 rebate.
Seriously? $200 for a sub MOA rifle?
That's why I've got one, I'll tell you that much!

Well my ruger ranch in 223 shoots MOA or better with the right ammo, and the other samples I've seen do the same.  Trigger is much better than the Axis trigger in my opinion.

Either way, both will work fine for deer at <200yds.
