Best weapon light for me
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
if you get one in the next few days let me know which model and how it works out for you -
I hereby appeal to the vast knowledge of the TGO forum and its members... I'd like some input on a weapon light and mount for mounting on my AR. I have a PSA dissipator with full length Magpul MOE handguard. I'm planning on putting a mount and light on it and want to know what others think I would require for my particular uses. First off, it obviously needs to be solid, reliable parts. Secondly, I don't want to spend over $100 on the light. I'd also like to know what you all think about the lumen requirement. The primary role for this light is to be something that I could use inside my house if the need arises. More than likely though, the first real world use will be to illuminate coyotes on my property before i send them to doggy hell. The varmints have been getting in my back yard raising a ruckus in the middle of the night and usually when i have gone out they have been about 30-75 yards away from me, so illumination to that max distance would be good. Any advice, as well as any good deals anyone knows about would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah seriously good deal as long as they don't gouge on shipping. I couldn't find any reviews for them online

For an inexpensive bag, I would reccommend the one you're referring to. I have a buddy that works part time at academy and he picked that one up for me. But I've also only had it for about two months. Seems well made enough for just toting my gear to the range, but I'm sure if you plan on using and abusing a great deal it would be better off to buy a higher end bag

Shooting West Nashville - gun sale involved
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to midtennchip's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Agree. I've done four trades through armslist and managed to trade up (in my opinion) every time. It is a good resource for reaching a larger market. Spoke on the phone to every person I met and no red flags went up. The meets went well, but my CZ was at my side through every single one. We have all spoken to enough gun enthusiasts who are also decent people to know what one sounds like. Stay sharp though. -
Anyone near Clinton needing 5.56
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Nice to know. I'm up there fairly regularly but the last time i stopped in I was hugely disappointed with the ammo selection. Clinton always has some good stuff in stock. Last week they had a bunch of OD green/milsurp 00 buck. I bought 10 boxes and theyre again sold out of those. -
I just bought a 420 round ammo can full of Federal xm193 5.56 at the clinton Wal mart at about 2:00PM. They had 2 left in stock. Hurry up and get there or I'm gonna head back and buy the rest! $159 plus tax

Current 9mm Defense Loads
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
+1 for the 115gr Hornady Critical Defense. Low recoil and i like the idea of the polymer tip to force expansion. Seems like most quality hp rounds expand as intended but i like the gimmick i guess. I have had good results with other Hornady ammo so I am confident of the brand in general. If i had to pick a 2nd choice though it goes to the 124gr Remington Golden Saber. You have the option of bonded and +P with the Golden Sabers too. I run them in my Walther PK380. -
New AR FTE problem
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Ok so i took the rifle out today using a mix of pmc, AE black box and a few lake city rounds. Used 30w synthetic oil to lube the surfaces and I had none of the problems i was experiencing a few days ago. I guess panicked when my brand new rifle wasn't working properly! Thanks for all the input you guys saved me some time for sure. In the future I will know to use a thicker lubricant during the break in. And the best part is that i didn't have to tear into the gas system. Maybe in time I will be able to utilize the 200 or so tula rounds i still have left in my safe, but until then i will continue to run the more expensive american brass -
New AR FTE problem
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
About 400 so far. I thought i had the thing lubed well enough but as dolomite suggests i may have been using too light of a viscosity oil for the break in. I'll be trying something much thicker when i go test tomorrow with a few different ammo types. The curious thing is that the first time using tula it shot perfectly -
New AR FTE problem
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Tomorrow is my next opportunity to take the thing out and im going to do as you reccomended. I've never had to break in an AR before, all the ones i've shot have had thousands of rounds through them already so I'm gonna get generous with the lube and take a few (hundred) shots with some PMC and lake city ammo tomorow. I thought maybe the problem may lie with the ammo being underpowered but wasnt sure. Naturally the last thing i want to do is be without my brand new toy for weeks, even though i too have heard that psa has a stellar track record with service after the sale. I will post tomorrow after range time and update. Thanks to all of you i am already very glad i joined this forum -
New AR FTE problem
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Wow thanks for all the quick replies you guys. To do a reply to all: 1: It is cycling fine by hand. Does not feel any different from any other ar that i have manually cycled the bolt on 2: It is a mock dissipator. The upper came to me from psa completely assembled with a rifle length handguard covering a lo-pro gas block that is in the carbine location. 3: Yeah i work for Anderson co. EMS. Oak Ridge station 2. -
I assembled my new PSA AR about 3 weeks ago and took it out for the third time today. It is a PSA dissipator kit w/ 16'' barrel on a patriot defense lower. Has mil-spec buffer tube and standard psa bcg. I have used tulammo in every semi rifle i have owned with great success. Today i was using a mix of tulammo and federal 55gr fmj rounds. I had a disturbing amount of fte's while firing using multiple pmags. As i watched my father i law fire the rifle it looked as though the bolt was not reaching the farthest back point possible in the cycle. Almost as though the rounds didn't have enough kick to cycle the bolt fully rearward. This caused the neck of the fired casing to not be able to fully clear the ejection port and as the bolt returned to the forward position it jammed as the new unfired round from the magazine and the spent casing that had not fully ejected came into contact with one another. Is it possible that the buffer spring is a bit too stiff for this ammo and that i could fix the problem by getting a "softer" buffer spring? Is this an option? Or is the cause of the problem likely somewhere else. My first outings with this ammo i had no problems, so what are some other possibilities that could be causing this? Thanks in advance for any advice guys.

best rds riser for my ar
ANDERSON MEDIC replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Thanks for the input the DD looks like a solid piece and from what i've read it gets good reviews. Probably gonna go with it. Thanks -
I initially thought that i was going to keep the iron sights only on my psa dissipator ar. Now i kind of miss the red dot sight like i had on my ak and think im going to pick up a primary arms microdot or a vortex sparc due to the good reviews and reasonable price. I have seen on some sites a few different options for a riser and was wondering if i could get some input as to which would work the best. my ar has a standard front sight post and a troy fixed rear sight, non folding. I'd really like to avoid getting a new rear sight and was wondering which riser would allow me to co-witness the iron sights with the most effectiveness. Quick detach or no? Which brand have people had good success with?

Hey all I'm Preston, I'm currently residing in Clinton and i work for Anderson county emergency services. I heard about this site a while back from a gentleman who sold me a stripped ar lower and I'm glad he did. Seems like a lot of knowledgeable people on this site and I look forward to learning as much as possible from everyone. I'm not new to the gun scene, but pretty much all my research, shopping and shooting has been done solo thus far. So i guess I'm just looking for like minded individuals to share my hobby with. Looking forward to all my dealings here.
