  1. My seven year old daughter has been shooting my Rough Rider for a while now. She loves it. To the point that I have been thinking of picking one up for her.

My first handgun was a Ruger Single Six. I forget how old I was, but I shot it for many, many years before I passed it on to my brother.

As for semi-automatics, I don't own and bottom feeder .22LRs. Even as an adult I have too much fun with a six shooter, and frankly, that is what rimfire is all about.

^+1 A Ruger single six is an immediate family heirloom. One he can show his friends from then on and say, "This was my first gun." Of course Mark IIs and IIIs have come and gone in my safe throughout the years, but my Single six stays. Stay away from the plastic for his first "father to son" gun. When I find a mark III hunter it will have a permanent place in my safe as well.
  2. The reason it's taking so long is because after Springfield received your pistols, they sent them to a secret facility hidden deep in the bowels of NYC. Once there all XDS pistols will be retrofitted to become single shot only. In addition to the grip safety and loaded chamber indicator, all guns will be outfitted with fingerprint scanners, DNA analyzers, and an emergency whistle. With all the new upgrades I think 10-12 wk turn around time is more than fair.

  3. Just got back from meeting Ted at Charlie's range in spring hill and I can't thank him enough for his help and wisdom! You could tell he really likes helping people! My wife, son and I were able to try his Sig 238, a 9mm Shield and a M&Pc in both 9 and 40. My wife fell in love with the S&W Shield. Ted really helped her with her techniques and made it a real learning experience. I think its safe to say a wheelgun is not what she's looking for.

Props to Ted for lending his time, tools, and expertise. That's true community spirit. I highly recommend the S&W shield. My GF carried a LCP exclusively for several years. I picked up a Shield 9 for her a couple months back and she loves it. I believe it's the best CCW 9 for the money right now. No matter what your wife decides on, make sure she carries it. A .22 in the pocket is better than a .45 on the table.
  4. The M&P9c is a "concealment" sized gun if you will. The shield is a "deep concealment" sized gun. It will disappear rather quickly anywhere on your body. If I already had the M&P9c I would not get the shield. Get the full size 9 for night stand / HD and be done with it. I enjoy my .45s, but I'm of the opinion that most people blow it's stopping power out of proportion. 9mm loads these days are not what they once were. Give me 12 124gr Gold dots, over 7 180gr hps any day.
  5. Got her all cleaned up last night and MAN is that grip slick. I almost couldn't go to sleep without stippling it but I think I am just going to buy a talon grip for it. Still haven't got to shoot it but it seems like a solid gun. It's cool that the rails on the frame have no embedded steel in them. The trigger is not the greatest in the world but its not horrible. Mine was made in '97 so the white dot sights are more like brown dots. Once I get those painted and get a grip on it I imagine it will be a great shooter!

Now to decide between a Glock 36 and the XDS 45.

    36. Easy decision
  6. For what it's worth I think there are many better choices for a fun range gun. The Ruger is a solid dependable weapon that would be
A great HD option but I think it's just a little uninspiring to shoot. Accurate, sure. Dependable, you bet. Fun, meh. Pretty, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

I've recommended the Ruger to several people including family who aren't really "gun folks". It's a fantastic piece as far as it goes but for someone like you who's particularly wanting something fun for recreation, I dunno.

If you wanted to hang onto your ammo for SHTF and wanted a solid gun to pack away with it, I'd recommend the Ruger for something like that.

+1^ One of my first guns. One of my cheapest guns. One of the guns I will never sell.

  7. What?

I have passed on them in the last two years for $350. I see people on GB are ASKING that much but in reality I don't think they are selling for that.

.30 carbine Blackhawk... thats badass. The next one you pass on for $350, please send it my way! Or acquire it, and I shall then bestow a finders fee to you for said gun :)
  8. I ran out and bought an XDs45 last year and it would not run for me with many different ammos
sent it back for repairs and it came back the same so I sold it off

They said to me the gun was picky and did not like my hands , I said to them I don't like
owning picky guns ......bought me another brand and never looked back .

I was faced with the same task of arming my girlfriend as well. She's no stranger to big bore handguns, and picked out a XDs .45 a few months after they were released. At least 1 FTF every magazine. I tried 6 different brands of FMJ, and JHP .45 At first i thought it was limp wristing on her part, but the problem persisted with myself and two other experienced shooters. Turns out the firing pin was rubbing inside the channel causing light strikes. Springfield claimed the XDs has to be maintained differently than a regular XD. ie: "run it wet" the amount of gun oil the factory tech advised me to use was overkill in my opinion for any handgun. Your carry/duty weapon should RUN. PERIOD. Using the same maintenance procedures as your other weapons. Springfield was very considerate, and actually purchased the XDs back from me for exactly what I paid new. Don't hesitate to purchase one in either caliber. They're a great manufacturer, and I believe the problems are few and far between. They also stand behind their products. I bought her a M&P 9 shield new, and a J frame airweight used as a replacements for just a little over what the XDs cost me. We've been very happy with the performance of both using the same maintenance practices for all my other guns.
  9. That wasn't a way to end an episode.

And I can't believe Colt is gone. I for sure thought it would be Johnny this episode, and I was willing to put money on Colt downing Tim.

Johnny took a rattlesnake bite to the face! Dude, ain't never gonna die!
