hey, how you know those crazy kids?

i agree... I have almost 600 rounds thru mine now. No problem at all. The more I shoot it the better it seems to work, im really impressed. I cant say the keltec can do that, EVERY 3AT I have heard about so far has yet to go thru a "first" 500 rounds and not have a problem. Heres the skinny, Keltec has played games with the industry now for a few years. They have shipped just enough guns to keep the demand up, and the quality hasnt improved. They play favorites and send their own "outlet store" in Florida first dibs on everything.... screwing the rest of the industry. SO it coming down kinda like the SeeCamp issue did years ago. Well what has happened is Ruger has came into the picture with a superior gun, and is shipping them faster then Keltec...so IMHO Keltec made their bed, let them lay in it. If they keep practicing the same business principals Ruger will put them out of business in just a few years. The 3at is KT bread and butter, they lose that market and they are done. This actually should be great news for consumers, the prices should stay low on both these pistols and both company's will be flooding the market.

Hey come back and see us and we will give you a discount. We have former students that come back thru all the time, either for a refresher, paperwork not turned in, or just forget to renew it. Im not sure there is anyone out your way that gives it. In any event if we can help you give us a shout.

Is Green Hills Mall a posted no handgun location?
GLOCKMEISTER replied to fury2neon's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
not posted correctly per the TCA... as far as I know... If you dont see the proper sign, carry away -
some schools have off campus properties too.... Here's what I would do. My interpretation of the law is you can carry her in the car and drop her off and still have the gun in the car with a carry permit. I believe as long as you are dropping off or picking up a Dependant you are good to go. You cant leave the vehicle un attended and the firearm cant leave the confines of said vehicle. The key is dropping off and picking up. I will have to search for the law, dont know that part of the TCA by heart. Im pretty sure im right... Its just like dropping off your child at the elementary school.

hey guys... I have one of the first 5 we got left (its my personal gun and not for sale) if anyone wants to see the difference between the two in your hands. It didnt seem to make a bit of difference to me...

good points... Actually I tell all my students to hide either in the ash tray or the visor a duplicate copy of their HCP, Vehicle registration, and proof of ins.... with their left hand, while the right one is on the steering wheel, hand that info out to the officer voluntarily letting him know... you have a gun permit(meaning your not a felon)... you have Ins(meaning your responsible and law abiding)... and you have your vehicle registration ready(its not in the glove box under your Glock)... Thats the smart way for a citizen to handle a traffic stop. It makes life easier for everyone. Until you have been in that situation at 2am you dont know what its like to be 20+ miles out in the middle of nowhere, 5-7 minutes away from backup dealing with an unknown person thats carrying a gun. Does it matter to the officer at that point if its legal or not???? Most are telling themselves if they dont handle this right they may not got home tonight... ya know?

btw.. about Cops being trained better on handgun permit law, nope they aren't. Back several years ago I was the training coordinator at a local Dept. We had traing tapes sent to us thru POST via UT Knoxville called LESAT, so officers could get the required in service classes in each year. On those tapes, back then, they had one about handgun permit holders... allot of bad/misinformation was in those tapes. Things like "handgun has to be concealed".. "cant carry in Bank"... lots of stuff that was just WRONG. In any event it took some hell raising, but I finally got that tape pulled from POST training, but the damage was already done. Another little tidbit most of you should know, lots of police survival instructors tell officers to look for "gun" indicators... and to handle those persons that dont tell officers they are legally carrying 1-2 threat levels above what they would consider green. Say when an officer ordinarily approaches a car he always puts his hand on his gun, but doesnt unsnap.... if he sees say an NRA sticker on a vehicle he may touch the rear qu, put his hand on gun, unsnap and be in the "ready to draw" position... that officer is going to handle that stop more aggressively then others due to the training he has received. Just a little tidbit...

HEHEHE.... So now were back to using AG's opinions??? Btw if I remember this one was from Summers... not the same AG that gave the recent opinion we disagree with about 1311/1359?? Anway... what I said was just a what might could happen scenario. Sure you can get a good or bad apple with any group of people any day, thats life. I guess where we can agree to disagree is... I dont see the problem telling the men and women that protect us daily that your carrying, by the time they approach the car they will probably already know... its just a courtesy thats all.
-
another thing that got me about that video... the officer hadnt made contact with the driver yet... he just saw a "buldge".. what if she had been another COP????
-
Well.. and not being argumentative, just trying to be informative because I have been on both sides of this particular situation. And I'm as Pro Gun as anyone in this world, but most cops aren't. When I pulled a car over, I could care less... as long as it was put away it didnt bother me at all... probably the wrong way to think, but hey I was around guns and gun owners all the time.. so it was no biggy. The other guys were trained to not think that way at all. Bottom line...the law states you dont have to volunteer the information unless the officer asks, so thats it. Its kinda a common sense approach to go ahead and tell him though. And it may not really be the officers attitude. But he could make the stop very uncomfortable, and not even come close to violating any of your rights. Remember he will start off by giving you "lawful commands"... If you dont volunteer the fact your carrying a gun out of courtesy he could.... Example: He could ask for possession of the firearm if he deems that your inconsideration gives him the belief you might be a danger to yourself, him, or the general public. Meaning he can get you out, and place you in handcuffs for "the officers safety" and get it himself. If its in your vehicle he can go through whatever it takes to get to the gun, what if he "smells or sees" something else? You dont need probable cause in that situation. Once he gets the gun he can run the firearm for a stolen history report, that will take a good bit of time, and you could still be in cuffs while all of this is going on btw... Better obey all his "lawful commands"... dont even think about getting agitated, arguing or disobeying one. Lots can go wrong for you at that point. Then once he determines you are who you say you are... the guns not hot... you have a valid permit...btw..better hope NCIC/TCIC are up and running so he can find this stuff out... and he finishes writing ALL the tickets for violations that he can articulate that you commited... then he will probably lock your firearm in the trunk and tell you" Have a safe day sir"... And you will be on your way. Tickets and all... Now can you go down and file a complaint against the officer, sure... but what did he do wrong? He can use the term "officer safety" and explain all of his actions. Now all this is if you get the wrong jackazz on the wrong day, and you dont tell him so he will feel comfortable on the traffic stop. Now dont take what I said above to believe I'm not considerate of citizens individual rights... Im all for them, and protecting them. But you have to use common sense in some situations. I know for a fact what happens when you push the wrong buttons with an overzealous gungho cop! Some of them can be down right nasty.

Im so sick of that video, and have been lobbying safety to change it since it came out. I have finally, this year, gotten the legislature involved and so I have been told they are working on a new one right now. Probably come out and wont update the Restaurant carry law if it gets passed. In short they wanted to intimidate the students into believing its the correct thing to do... and thats wrong, the law is the law, but it helps to use a little common sense as well.
-
well then let me address that. By law you dont have to let an officer know that you are carrying a gun, unless he asks. However in a traffic stop situation a good police dispatcher may have already run the TNDL of the owner of the car before the officer approaches the vehicle, giving the officer a heads up that a gun may be in the vehicle. I know several Dept. that do that. See about 95% of the time the owner of the vehicle is the primary driver, the dispatcher sometimes will get ahead of the officer and run the tndl of the driver, because he/she know they are going to have to run it in a matter of minutes anyway. And everything my friend runs on computers, the vehicle tag number or VIN can link your TNDL...and your TNDL # is the same as your HGP#... So the validity of the carry permit will show up when its run. So even if you dont tell them, when the TNDL # is run they will know... at that point the officer is probably pissed, or at least wondering why you didnt tell him anyway. See even though the law doesnt require it, most think it does... so the officer may then develop an attitude about it... and thats not going to help you.

I spoke with safety yesterday. They are no longer going to accept the duplicate application when you make the initial application for your 1st carry permit. They told me everything is changing down there since Phil Williams busted them not doing the background ck's correctly. Now if you want a duplicate your going to have to wait until you get your first one, then go online and download the app. and mark duplicate and send in the money via mail. This is a real pain IMHO, I have been telling students for over 14 years to make the application for a duplicate when they make their initial application. Maybe they will get their act together soon and make it easier.

another thing, under the leg in my opinion isnt good. I will put mine there when I think I might need it, but its away and out of sight the rest of the time. You need to work on carry tactics and shooting from a vehicle.
-
I tell people to keep it concealed(out of sight) in a car for several good reasons. Law Enforcement stops are probably one of the most important, getting in an accident is another ...the other is your developing a bad habit of leaving it laying around. What if you have an accident, if its out of sight and secured your good to go.... Another thing is, what if you have to run in someplace and you forget to grab it.. then its just sitting there in the open. The other thing you asked about, ALWAYS volunteer that you have a gun and carry permit to a police officer. The law doesn't require it, the Tn Dept of Safety wants you to think it is, but it isn't. Its always a good idea to let the officer know.

From the feedback I get Bass Pro's service leaves allot to be desired. If you want service BPS and Academy of sports are the two worst.

nothing wrong with an XD.. GREAT GUN1 -
OK.. first off it shouldn't be a big deal but, the gun SHOULD (doesn't have to be) be concealed in the vehicle. If you get pulled over, the officer is going to probably make first contact with you(the driver)... what if he then sees the gun sitting between you? Really its too late at that point to do much explaining. You wont have time to hide it while pulling over, and he will see you trying. Thus making him suspicious of what you are hiding. Id get it out of sight and out of mind, but still accessible to her. If you decide to still carry it between you then heres some food for thought. If you get stopped and you have possession, meaning its on your person thats one thing. IMHO, your in possession. If its put up, but still more accessible to her thats another thing. General rule, unless its on your person, whomever claims the property is who it belongs to. But Remember its up to the officers discretion to determine who has possession. If its accessible to you both, and say he's having a bad day, then he may determine its in your possession... charge you... and articulate that in his report. So unless there is a reason not to... get a carry permit. This really shouldnt be an issue with most officers, but you get the wrong guy on the wrong day it could end badly.
