  1. I think GGG is referring to shooting at police officers being a crime that invalidates the life insurance policy. Based on casual googling, it seems that most insurance companies will actually pay out after a suicide, but only after the policy has been in effect for a while (with 2 years being referenced the most). This was put in place to discourage desperate people from obtaining a policy and then taking their own life to get their family out of financial problems. So it seems if you get a policy, and the day after it is active you kill yourself, your beneficiaries will get nothing. If your policy is of certain age (using those 2 years as example), and you kill yourself, the policy will pay out. But if you play suicide-by-cop, that action being considered a crime, the policy won't pay out.

Which means there's no benefit of suicide-by-cop. It takes guts to take your own life. But it also takes guts to shoot at others with the expectation to be shot and killed in return. Those being equal, and there being no benefit of the suicide-by-cop route, I just can't comprehend why people would take that route. Then again, crazy people do crazy stuff I guess.

  2. Yeah, my first thought was if you want to leave this world, stick a shotgun barrel into your own mouth and be done with it. Don't involve others.

However, in that case there would probably be no life-insurance payout. I wonder if the suicide-by-cop route would allow for any life-insurance payments to the family/beneficiaries. Not that it justifies involving officers, but it might explain this phenomenon.

You get it, other than the fact it's going to be cloudy and/or rainy.

Hey, a decent cloud cover might still make it a spectacular event... with that big black disc silhouetted on the clouds moving over you. :)   (Rain would suck though...lol). Oh well, I'll take whatever comes wherever I'll be.

  4. I think there are two ways to enjoy this event:

    1) Get glasses. Stare at the sun. Through the glasses, you'll see a green disk, the sun. Then you'll see an almost same-size black disc (the moon) coming in starting to cover the sun. If you're in the path of total eclipse, you'll eventually see the green disc blotted out, with the suns corona glowing around it. Then the black disc moves out again, and you'll return to seeing a green disk.

Or you could really enjoy it this way:

    2) Don't get glasses. Don't look at the sun. Instead, look at your surroundings, especially the horizon to the west. When the moon starts to cover the sun, you should see the sky darkening in a spectacular fashion. Like a giant dark shadow that is moving from west to east. It will probably be like a sunset in the west, with near normal sky in the east. It will intensify and engulf the whole sky at point of totality. I think what will happen is hard to express in words. It will get dark like the dark sky right after sunset and stars begin to be visible. When the moon moves on, the darkness will continue to exist in the east, but from the west the sky will begin to brighten again, until you'll see the shadow leave to the east and normal daylight will return.

I'd rather enjoy the colors of the sky, the strangeness of shadow, and experience it like countless of people throughout human history than by keeping glasses on and focusing just on the sun.

If you want to wear glasses, make sure you take a few moments here and there and take the glasses off and look around you (not at the sun).

  5. Yeah, I thought 2 was boring. Loved the first one. The second, not so much. Plot was terrible. I did chuckle, though, when Keanu shot at his foot! I think twice. One was definitely inline with the muzzle, the second time didn't look much better.

Yep. Seemed like a smart thing to do. I would not be surprised if someone actually did that.

Happened before and will happen again:  http://www.nbc26.com/news/national/man-severely-burned-after-smoking-at-gas-pump-report-says

I'm sure the first post was a joke. If it was real, I bet the guy would have gotten into a heated argument with the cops. Probably some sort of hot head. Hopefully warming up to the idea of not smoking at the pump. Surely he found enlightenment.

Ammo cans, most are locked up in an old vending machine in the garage I converted to a light duty ammo safe.

Ha! Nice.... I always wondered why there aren't any coin/cash operated ammo dispensers at gun ranges. Insert $20 bill, pull the lever and retrieve your 50 round box so you can quickly continue your shooting session.

  8. I wonder if outstanding tickets like this (similar to parking tickets) would have any effect on the NICS check the next time you purchase a firearm. Wasn't there a thread in this forum where TBI rejected the background check and it turned out later that it was for unpaid parking tickets?

Yes, it may not affect your credit score, drivers license or insurance, but I wonder if it affects your ability to purchase firearms from FFLs.

  9. I don't have any personal experience with their service work since I only buy parts from them. But it seems that they are held in high regard by pretty much anyone that dealt with them. David is active as "schmeky" on the CZ forum and will respond to any concerns, striving to do right with his customers if there are ever any questions.

I think the only complaint is that they do a great job and cause people to spend more money on CZ guns, parts and upgrade services. But that's just the general curse of CZ ownership. :)

  10. Gah! Change.... it all looks different now! Smaller text, larger images. Couple more versions and there won't be much to read anymore.... just to consume images and media! Don't read, don't think, just watch. :D

(Sorry David, you know I had to give you a hard time. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta figure out how to change the font and stuff....)

I haven't watched any of the reviews yet. I can't buy it right now and I don't want to get the bug.

That being said, has anyone said anything yet about the grip angle? If it's like a Glock, I'm out. I've spent so much time behind CZ and HK that a Glock doesn't point natural.

Grip angle and feel is apparently all CZ, and a natural pointer. If you're a CZ fan, you'll love this one!

    Got the bug yet? :D

Don't take my word for it, watch some of the reviews! :)

ah yeah I remember when we went from dial up to a bonded ISDN at a whopping 256k in Germany... that was the tits!

Not as exciting as going from 300bps to 2400bps! And when the 9600bps modem was affordable, it blew our minds!

    1Gbps.... bah... that's data gluttony!

i was looking at the PCR last night. I dont really want or need a rail, so it may be a top contender.

Then it would be a good choice. Just be aware that the PCR's are in high demand and harder to come by than other CZ's (with exception of the unicorn-like 2075BD).

Go to a range that rents and shoot them both.  Its amazing how much you can like something more, or less, after 50 rounds down the pipe.

    ^^ Sound advice.

If you were in MidTN, I'd let you shoot my PCR. Maybe there's someone on your area that has one. Or maybe you're lucky and a gun shop has one tucked away. Or, just get one and post it up in the classified if you're not satisfied. PCR's are easy to sell. If no one here wants one, post it on the CZ forums and you'll have your PCR sold 5 minutes later. :)

  14. If you want a dual-purpose, range and EDC gun, look at a 75D PCR. It's the alloy-framed, non-railed compact from CZ. (similar to a P01, but without rail). If you want a rail, go P01. Accuracy is every bit as good as a full-size 75, but is a bit handier to move around while having the same ergonomics of your traditional 75.

As far as accuracy, my RAMI is on-par with the compact and full-size version (though a bit snappier of course). Also, there's a healthy after-market for CZ's.

Just be aware that it will further your CZ-fever. It starts with one, and before you know it, you got more CZ's. :)

My CZ stable: 75B matte stainless, threaded barrel, 2075B (safety), 75D PCR, Scorpion Evo, 805 Bren, vz.58)
