  1. I also have some boolits that anothe guy gave me to try in the 45-70 & I tried them in the NEF that I'm trying to sell.

They weigh almost 550gr & will kill your shouder with Trapdoor preasures.

I shot 3 of them at my "boxes" of shreaded tire rubber, but I only used 2 boxes (about 2ft) with 1/8 plate of steel in the back.

It acually put a hole about 1" in the steel & lodged into a tree stump behind the boxes & I couldn't find the boolit.

You get 550gr moving & it will not stop!!

  2. I'm a big fan of the lever action or bolt actions to start the youngsters with. With a little bit of looking you can find an older .22Lr bolt gun very worth the $$. Usually the older ones have better Iron sights. Another "opinion" I have it they need to learn marksmanship with iron sights.

You say you have a 10-22. I tried a 10-22 with my boy & got the playstation trigger in a short while. He never shot it as what I would call unsafe but it was the last he shot that gun for a while. His next gun for the range was a bolt .22 with iron sights.

  3. My "thing" for now is loading for the Marlin1895GBL 45-70 guide gun I just got. I have a couple loads to try as soon as I get a good chance.

Trying a lyman 457122 HP that weigh 340gr that I got from a guy on another forum to try out.

Putting that in front of 50gr realoader 7.

Also got a Lee 90374 405gr flat nose that I cast.

I put it in front of 50gr of Varget.

I'm not a big fan on how this boolit looks. The lube grooves are very shallow & narrow.

Hopefully it won't lead the barrel up.

I still need to load each of the bullets with the oppisite powder.

I really like the Lyman boolit. I shot it into 3ft of sheraded tire rubber in carboard boxes with 1/8 sheet of steel in the back of the last box "for good measure" & it traveled about 2 1/2 ft into the rubber & averaged out of 5 shots 180gr when recovered. :D

If you see a deal on the Lyman 457122 HP mold I want one.

Caster you talkin about swaping bullets I have a Lyman 356242 that drops 126gr, & a 452374 that drops 218gr if you wanna try them.

Both of those weights are lubed & sized.

Also have a 311413 that I don't cast much with & never loaded.

  4. Always be careful loading & unloading your gun too.

My best freind had an accident during the juvinile hunt.

As he was unloading a 30-06 it went off & hit his son below the left knee.

Not pointing blame he was pointing it is a safe direction & his son walked in the path as he was unloading.

I don't want to hear all the bashing about how bad either followed the rules. They both know & are paying for it.

Vanderbilt had to take off his leg just above the left knee.

I just want to put the reminder out there. It can happen any time!

  6. Did you acually over tighten the screw & break it off or did you drop the mold with the sprue plate out & break it off?

The reason I ask is it may make a slight difference in getting the screw out.

Then a new screw from Lee & your off to the races again.

Don't forget to blacken that mold with smoke from a stick match. Try to keep it in the cavities only. It will make the bullets drop better.

  7. I have acually thought about that quite a bit & I would like to know that I could keep a straight enough mind to go in & get one thing. I kina dout that I could do it. Most of my prizzed peices are setting right together. I could acually grab a couple.

My old 12 string is setting beside my gun cabinet that has a glass front on it. Inside tha cabinet is the rem.700 7mm Mag that was my brothers favorite. I would make sure to get it with one hand. I think my guitar would fit nicely in the other hand.

On second thought they are all beside a window!
