  1. I feel like I have hijacked the EMP thread with the insulin topic. I should probably just start a new one devoted to that alone :hijack: haha. I thank you all for the information. I believe I have what I need to get an action plan together.
I checked those out, but they only work at keeping current vials cool enough - but unused need to be cooler.

I'm going to have to check those out.

    SHTF....
Step 1: Run to Pharmacy and buy all insulin.
Step 2: Find a solution to keep it cool enough for their 2 year shelf life.
Step 3: Find an overweight scientist and some livestock :stir:

I've been watching alot of videos with people living in converted vans 24/7 and the most popular setup is a solar panel into a small bank of 3-4 batteries into a 12volt refrigerator and freezer.

The panel is not very big, about half the size of the top of a full size van.

The best battery seems to be used ones from cell towers. Small and sealed with a extremely long (10+ year) run life.

These guys run off the grid with everything with that setup and most have a small generator for cloudy days but most end up never using it with the panel mounted even flat on the roof getting enough.

What I've learned is three things.

Get too big of a panel.

    Get good industrial batteries.

Use 12v items because converters waste power.

  2. Your still pretty young.

I still have a BRICK of thunderbolt (500) rounds that I bought for less than $5 in 1987.

I finally last year shot up some Remington 50 round boxes with no bar code and a 25 cent sticker on them.

    Date that!
  3. If just for gaming and YouTube, you cold pick up an Xbox One. It will support all xbox one games for as long as they make it and support it. The 360 had a good long run. I used to build my pcs for games but eventually went the console route. Just easier.

I'll second this, I've always built my own gaming PC's but my last one died three years ago and my son told me to try his PS3 and after a bit of time getting used to it I looked at the cost and value and never bothered with another PC.

Other than a handful of specialized games it's all on Consoles now and my old eyes sure like a 32" or a 72" screen a bit better.

I've had a Xbox 360 which red ringed multiple times and now a PS3 and soon a PS4. The games hold their value better than PC games and not having to maintain a PC is nice.
  4. I saw the elusive 22 at Walmart a hour ago. Walked into sporting goods and looked and there was seven bricks of federal sitting there in the case.

I bought one and watched as three people looked and walked away.

Should I be worried about a plague that blinds you going around?
  5. Ive got a 11 year old girl that thinks she's 21 and a 21 year old boy that acts like he's 11 lol.

The wife is in early menopause and the daughter is raging in her early hormones and they battle like two gladiators most mornings and I want to just hide under the bed.
  6. Ive got a Savage 320 I keep nearby and if someone came in id know it quickly since i can roll over in the bed and there's a 20" LCD with my internal and external camera feeds on 24/7. Then my only thoughts are one door down the hall to grab the daughter then back up into our bedroom and hold the fort.

My son can fend for himself with his AR on the other side of the hall if needed, creating a cross fire of death if they don't beat feet. I'm not clearing anywhere but the hallway and I can see it all from the bedroom display or from one of our phones.
  7. I even made him fill out the 4473 on his own so he could experience it and there would be no question that it was his.

I did have to print six copies out at home and make him do it in pen so there was no going back, the night before till he got it right. He had to read every question which is not his strong point and figure out the answer. Only issue he had was writing the wrong info down on the address or name fields.

I did the same with my wifes carry pistol, handed her the debit card and said get at it. That way no one can't say it's not hers.
  8. Keep in mind that purchases for family members and truthfully anyone as long as it is being "GIFTED" is completely legal and is not a straw purchase.... Many sellers seem to fail to realize this and try to put the brakes on an otherwise 100 percent legal action...

Oh I knew it was legal but it was for him using his own money and I decided to do father/son builds while we was looking.

We finished them in January and was a good experience for the both of us. He bought and built 90% of the parts himself. Me and his mother surprised him with the magpul furniture. He's got a few learning disabilities but I wouldn't trade him for another and the efforts of studying on how to build it piece by piece was good for him.

  9. I got accused of trying to have someone do a straw purchase for me last year.

I was at a gunshop with my step son who had just turned 21 (kinda hard to say step since I've raised him since age 2) and was helping him pick out a lower for his first AR build and I was being real picky looking them over and the guy cued in and started getting nervous.

I solved that when I said he wants that one and I want this one ring us up lol.

  10. I'm trying to get educated to build my first pistol and found this thread with the search. Most of my questions have already been answered, but what about buffer tubes? I seem to remember reading in the past that it is fine to use a standard tube that can accept a stock as long as one is not installed and the conditions of post #5 are met, or is a "pistol" buffer tube required?

In other words, can the pic in post #12 still be considered a pistol with that buffer tube without the stock? I think I know the answer but want to be certain.

I plan to build a 8.5" bbl, 300BO. May or may not do the SigBrace... haven't decided yet. It will eventually be suppressed.

Of you have a stockable buffer tube you are asking for trouble, I'd use a good pistol tube.

I always have parts around so I used a pistol tube just so I couldn't be told I had intent to build a illegal sbr.
  11. What a day finally got in to one this morning. Was laying there and he was pulling and tugging like hell then I heard crack and he jumps up and leaves. Nurse comes in and says i have to goto oak Ridge for emergency oral surgery.

By the time i got there the pain was down right hell.

They knocked me out and fixed the butchers screw up.

They was gentle as can be.

Now it's lay here and suffer from his "work" flaring up my gums.

He didn't even want to say anything to me which is dirty. The people at the surgery center pushed me right through quickly and allowed me to pay what I could.
  12. Ok one thing I get from this is a definite definition that a buffer tube on a AR is not a shoulder stock.

So since my buffer tube extends out the rear of my SB15 unlike the newer model, it could be argued that you are shouldering the buffer tube as long as you don't secure the brace in a way that the buffer tube is not flush with the end or covered.

You are leaving it on for later use just like you don't remove lights in the daytime.
  13. I acquired a Corona brand heater as a shop heater but need it able to use in the house after tonight's mess.

It has two issues one minor one maybe major.

The igniter doesn't work but I can light it by other means but it would be nice to fix it.

I'm getting some leakage into the bottom tray around the tank bottom (it has the drop in type) I checked the cap O ring and even flipped it but shouldn't there be a large O ring where the tank mates the wick tank?
