  1. When we raised our boys we lived in one of the more affluent school districts in Ohio. We still had fees for this and fees for that sometimes twice a year. We always had school supplies to get. Didn't like it, but it was just part of school.

Now they are grown and on their own. We still like to buy the school supplies for our grand-babies. It's our way of showing them that we support them.

According to the local newspaper, Monroe county is one of the poorest county in Tennessee. Average family income is $21000/yr,. The schools spend $6020 on each student. Some of the supplies that are purchased go to those that can't afford $45 at the beginning of the year.

  2. As I think about it, my USPSA production guns all have Lucite sights on them. My house guns are bare bones basic. Why? if the day ever comes when I have to use one to defend my family or myself, and it comes to court, I really don't want the prosecutor waving some high tech thing around with lasers and flashlights on it to the jury.

Like TMF I really don't like killing the wildlife I have here. A couple of weeks ago we had a wild dog trying to get at the ducks in the lake. I put one over his head with the bold gun and he changed his mind. I could have dropped down a foot and put him down, but it wasn't necessary. I do my best hunting at the meat counter at the local wally world.

  3. I read here that most of you are against the working person and think that the poor cities and towns are going broke because they're paying too much. Smart people can make numbers say what they want them to say. The cities won't let independent auditors get hold of the books because they don't want anyone to really know where the money goes.

All the police officers out there that are willing to be shot at and put up with the crap that they have to to keep the politicians happy and gaining enough votes for next election for minimum wage raise your hand. How about the fireman out there? Are you willing to walk into a burning building for minimum wage. These aren't the only ones. I missed a lot of working class folks out there that are worth a lot more than they get payed.

Sorry folks, I will always believe that a working man is worth a lot more than some politician sitting behind a desk smoking cigarettes and telling lies on the phone all day.

  4. You have the right to bear arms.........Just not automatic arms without government permission

You have the right to bear arms........ We just won't let any more automatic arms be made or imported.

You have the right to bear arms........ We just want to know who you are and where you live

You have the right to bear arms........ If you haven't committed a felony or hit your partner

You have the right to bear arms........ But you're not allowed to have some shotguns that we decided were destructive devices.

You have the right to bear arms........ But we're thinking about banning the 50 bmg.

You have the right to bear arms........ What did I miss? What's next? GEE! Our second amendment rights are secure aren't they?

Lordy y'all, it was just a meaningless poll, unless you think Congress waits with bated breath for policy opinions out of Allentown, PA.

Bone up on "bare" versus "bear"? ;)

    Thank you

  6. I do it every time. I'm in the Hell that is Turkey Creek, driving by and I think "I'll go in for a minute and see if they have any ammo on sale." THEY NEVER DO!!! In fact, their ammo prices are DOUBLE, that's right, double what Walmart sells for. My jaw dropped when I saw a 100rnd box of 9mm Federal for 44$! However, I still walk through the door. It must be something about how it's laid out or some sort of hypnotism. Anyway, I need to stop going in because it's always disappointing when I do.

Maybe you just enjoy pain and abuse.

I went into Benton Shooter Supply on a Friday to pick up a Shield that I had my name on the list for. There were 8 people ahead of me to have their check done. Now those folks sell a bunch of guns. The prices aren't bad either. They still have to pay the light bill. But they don't do it with one sale.

  7. Sounds like you have everything taken care of. Your gun shop has dealt with Bud's before, so they have a copy of your local GS's FFL on file.

Like so many others here I've bought guns on line too. No big thing. The place that you are buying the gun from has to have a copy of the local FFL's license on file. That way Uncle Sam gets his paper trail and you still get to take the 4473 test. What I usually do is take my money order to my local GS and they put a copy of their FFL with my stuff and mail it for me. That way I don't have to pay an extra 3% to use the charge card and I know that there won't be a delay because of the local FFL not being there.

  8. Let me explain why I feel this way. Not so much in Tennessee but in a lot of the other states if a first grader draws a picture of a gun he gets suspended from school. If a 3 grader, on the playground, points his index finger at another child with his thumb in the air he's expelled from school for bringing a gun to school. Think I'm kidding? It happened to kids at Bridgetown elementary in Cincinnati. Mom and dad took the school to court and won. The child had to do that grade over because it took almost a year for the incident to come to court. It cost mom and dad a boatload of bucks and junior a year of school. The school didn't care. They had all of our money to use for a defense. Back to the golden rule,[Those with the gold make the rules]

  9. Unique is well, unique. You will find that it gets cleaner on the upper end. I was shooting 10g in my 308 and it was pretty sooty. I worked up to about 15g and it was clean as a whistle.

As far as the residue, it is neither corrosive or function inhibitive. Why worry? It cleans up really easy too. An oily patch will wipe it away.

What you said makes since. I've got a boatload of WC 820 left over from the days when the military wasn't involved in gun control. I'm not showing any signs of pressure. I think I'll just burn up the powder I've got. Thanks guys for the help. When I do run out of the powder I'm going to go looking for an 8 pounder of 2400 or 4227.And that's going to kill me. I bought this powder for 6 bucks a pound. Remember the days?

  10. I've been loading my 44 mag with WC 820 for a long time. I start out with a Lyman gas checked 240gr hard cast bullet and 22gr of WC 820. It burns well, but it's just like h110, it likes to be compressed to burn consistently. It's a good load for range shooting. I don't think it would be good for hunting.

Here comes the but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, But, I'd like to deer hunt this Fall with my son. I picked up a S&W 629 hunter. It has a 7 1/2" barrel and a 2-6 power scope. I looked up Hornady's load for their 225gr FTX. If I use their load for h110 [recommended loading data for WC 820] the max I can use is 20.6gr. Reason being that there is a lot more baring area with this bullet. With that load I can't compress the powder and because of that I have a lot of unburnt powder in the barrel. Average velocity for 5 rounds is 1350fps, and ES is 19. I'm tickled to death with the crono numbers, not the crud in the barrel. What do you use?

  11. Caster

I've been casting for the better part of 45 years. I realized that I don't know everything about the casting and now that I've read your post I realize just how little I really do know. Thank you for taking the time to do this post. I really learned a lot.

  12. One more thing to touch on regarding brass.

Most people tumble their brass with way TOO much media. And when you have too much media it actually acts like a buffer extending the time needed to clean the brass. If you cut back on the amount of media then the brass themselves will clean each other.

What I do is add the brass to my tumbler with no media at all then turn it on. The brass will sit there and do a little dance but do not tumble at all. Then I add media a cup at a time until the brass just begins to roll over on itself. You get a lot more action and the brass will be squeaky clean in no time at all.

    Dolomite

Dolomite thanks for that one. I've been loading for a long time and knew that too much media was too much of a good thing. But I never knew how to determan what was a good way to get the right amount in the tumbler. One thing that I do is use the dryer sheets after they have been used in my tumbler. They absorb the fine corn cob media that makes the dust when I empty the clean brass out.
