Dude that sucks. Before she passed my wife's grandma had dementia as well. Some of things that she did/said really made us worry about my in-laws safety.

Both are good. Different strokes for different folks.

Oh man! I would love to have a bird! I'm just not sure I'm up for it for the bird's lifespan! Hell, at this point a Parrot would probably outlive me.

Hi Ron!
I just wanted to share something with you. As an owner of 6 rescued dogs, (4 of which are bully breeds) I am a bit saddened by your opinions of what I know to be loyal and loving souls.
If you go visit petfinder.com there's a whole special page devoted to myths about pitbulls! The first one they address is that pesky one about their jaws locking. It simply isn't true! If you were to compare the skull of a pitbull to that of, hmm a collie?, you would see no special bones, ligaments or anything else that would give them such an ability.
What these dogs do have is determination. Which personally I think is a great quality! They never give up! Gibbs, my Am Staff (they're small and cute) he never gives up on kissing everyone. He loves to lick, it drives me nuts! Floyd and Earl are 2 of my youngest pups, they're 1/2 Rottweiler, 1/4 English Bulldog and 1/4 Pitbull (they're super cute!). They're determined to always pester me for treats and food to throw the ball! So annoying. But they still can't lock their jaws.
I don't want to address everything you said, because we have such different views of these dogs. I bet we'll probably never agree. But, if you'd like, I'd love to invite you over to meet my "vicious" dogs. I'd love to show you what funny, goofy souls they are. I bet they might just surprise you. I understand that might not sound fun to you. An that's OK! But just know, it's an option if you'd like.
When I met my husband I was terrified of guns. Seriously. 1,000% scared. The first two things he taught me were "all guns are always loaded" and "guns don't kill people, people kill people". Now, I love them. I love to shoot, I love to take friends and educate them and I really love to shop for them! You should see my new Mossberg! It's incredible!
But my husband taught me that being a responsible gun owner and using them properly and helping to educate people about them is ok. I returned the favor but educating him on Pit Bulls. He adopted his first one after our Rottweiler, Buddy, passed away.
This is a very loyal, very proud breed. Sadly the media and people who LOVE to believe the Internet and Media about what kind of dog they are have hurt the breed. So have people like Michael Vick. Dogs (all breeds) are a reflection of their owner. Dogs are a lot like 2 year old humans. Regardless of the breed, they are what we as humans make them.
Lastly, I saw where you put that you've seen a Pit Bull fight. That makes me sad Ron, I hope you did the right thing and notified the authorities. Dog fighting is commonly used to fund illegal activities like drugs. Why would humans be that cruel? Make an innocent soul fight, just to fund illegal activities. And how can anyone with a good conscious view a dog fight? If you'd like to meet Floyd, Earl and Gibbs just let us know. Matt's a chef and he can make dinner. I think after a few minutes with them you'd probably change your mind and you probably wouldn't cut and paste incorrect information about a great breed that when owned by good people, are really loving companions! Have a great night Ron!This is probably the finest first post I've ever seen.

I can't help but laugh at the Doberman characterizations. I guess maybe pitbull owners feel the same way, but my experience with the breed has been anything but what Hollywood paints them as. I'm sure you can train them to be vicious guard dogs by abusing them and keeping them away from any sort of friendly human contact, but the breed has the sinister nickname "Velcro Dogs" because they tend to be very clingy and needy of affection. The one that presently shares our house with us is most happy when he's laying on the floor and has a drooling toddler crawling all over him, using his ears as reins and his snout as something to smack and slap with five fat little fingers.
He wouldn't know how to bite you if you showed him.
My female is the exact same way. Hell, she is deathly afraid of a baby gate we have because if fell over once and made a loud noise.

I think most folks that own Pit Bulls don't ever consider what they were originally bred for and that was to fight to the death in a pit for competition and gambling. Those Pit Bulls from back in the beginning are the same blood lines that about 99.9% of them at some level still have. Yea, you may have a Pit that is 25th+ generation from their beginning but somewhere deep in that dog is it's true breeding and you never know when or if it might show up. The other dog folks have failed to mention is the Doberman. It is another dog that was cross bred by the Germans back in the early days to be a mean vicious dog used by military for tracking and guard use. They are also a dog that was bred for a specific reason and they cannot be trusted. The Germans did this because they could not get this type of reaction out of the German Shepherds they had hope to achieve. It was a lot more difficult to make the Shepherds to be as aggressive as they wanted thus came the Doberman..............jmho More and more these days your finding law enforcement beginning to use large generalized mutts for training and having great success with them.
You obviously do not know anything about Dobermans.

Some part of me wants to say at some level this was a ingenious plan by Sony to hype the movie. The rest of me knows how sony handles most everything else, though.

Found this kind of neat. Step in the right direction imo.
In a speech at the White House on Wednesday, President Obama announced that the United States will restore full diplomatic relations with Cuba and open an embassy in Havana for the first time in more than 50 years.
"We will end an outdated approach that for decades has failed to advance our interests," Obama said. The president pointed out that the U.S. has relations with China as well as Vietnam, "where we fought a war that claimed more Americans than any Cold War confrontation." The policy, he claimed, was "rooted in events that took place before most of us were born." He said that what had stood in the way for him doing more to change relations with Cuba was "the wrongful imprisonment" of U.S. contractor Alan Gross, who was released from jail today after five years.
The president also said his administration will look into changing the designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, which was applied by the Reagan administration.
On Tuesday, Obama spoke to Raul Castro for 45 minutes to discuss the historic announcement. It's the first phone call between the leaders of the U.S. and Cuba in decades.
As part of the diplomatic thaw, the U.S. will ease restrictions on remittances, travel, and banking relations regarding Cuba.
"We're authorizing as much travel as we can within the constraint of the legislation," a senior administration official told reporters before Obama spoke. The embargo will still stay in place pending Congressional action. Americans will be permitted to use debit and credit cards in Cuba, and Americans will be able to bring back Cuban cigars legally for the first time in over 50 years.
In return for an American intelligence agent held for nearly 20 years, the U.S. sent back three Cuban spies held since 2001. (Cuba will also release 53 political prisoners.)
The secret U.S.-Cuba negotiations took place over a period of 18 months, hosted mostly by Canada and encouraged by Pope Francis from the outset of his papacy.

Yeah TICS was pretty slammed on Friday/Saturday. It wasn't an isolated issue to that one Walmart.

Ohhhh Sour Kraut. You've obviously never had *good* cornbread. If you were closer I'd make you and Dolo my cornbread.
One thing I never cared for was sawmill gravy. Me and the wife went to Charleston for vacation this year and Hominy Grill completely changed that opinion. They had a chicken biscuit smothered in sawmill gravy that will change your life. Since then, I've been experimenting with making my own.

Ohhhhhh man. I am the weird one in my family. I have many hangups and the biggest of which is I *will not* eat food prepared by someone I do not know. One thing working in retail has taught me is that most folks have a different idea of what good hygiene is. Food preparation is a whole nother thing. I am hypocritical of this when it comes to restaurants, but I have a certain expectation of quality for something I'm paying for from someone who does it for a living.
Birthday cake. I go to a b-day party for a niece or nephew or friend or whatever, and they blow out the candles on the cake. I then have to explain or play like I'm not hungry because fuck me if I'm going to eat a cake covered in some kid's spit.

OK I *think* I have everyone now. If you still haven't received a name please PM me.
-
Most people should have the name and address of their giftee now. I still have around ten or so folks to go, just waiting on address responses.
-
Just sent out a wave of PM's asking for name/address. If I somehow missed you, please PM me.
-
Sorry guys. I had a death in the family over the weekend. I will work on getting names out tomorrow.

Got a couple in this evening. The grip zone thing is pretty dumb, but it does feel pretty decent. An improvement, at least.
Oh God. It's worse than I thought. From Springfield's website:
"Every time you pick up an XD® Mod.2™ pistol, you’ll enter the GripZone™."
Man, I hope they didn't really trademark that.
-
Closest I can get is $609.24 out the door, and would take me a couple days to get one in the building.

It doesn't need to be this complicated. Try your best to get your gift out before Christmas. If it's a few days later closer to New Years no one is going to come looking for you. Christ.
