  1. There is a high crime rate in Memphs, there is no denying that. But what people who don't live here fail to understand is that most crime in Memphis is between individuals that are related or know each other. I don't see the "stranger crime" as being any worse then anywhere else. I have lived in Memphis my whole life, just shy of 51 years. There is nowhere in Memphis that I am afraid to go. There are places I would advise seniors not to go. But for the most part "if ya aint in nothing, there won't be nothing". Now when you speak of the leaders, they are our own worse enemy.
  2. I was just there about 30 minutes ago and I thought I saw some .45 auto. And they still had plenty of 5.56. I picked up several boxes.
  3. Dang, I live right around the corner from BP and my check won't hit the bank until in the morning. Probably be gone by then. Here's hoping the resellers are out of money.
  4. Can't speak to the Mossberg, but I do know that the Remington 870 Express is nowhere near the quality of the 982. I have both. And also here is a comparison of the 2 guns and I'll let the OP make his own decision. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=82794   I know its an old forum post but it is pretty accurate for the two shotguns.
  5. The Pardener Pump is manufactured by the same company as the Hawk 982, Norinco. Basically they are the same gun.
  6. I would dearly love to be able to purchase ammo at Walmart at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, I am unable to be a Walmart  at 6:00am  every morning to jump ahead of the resellers. Especially when I can get none of the Walmart employees to give me any indication when they actually put out the ammo. I think that is why so many people have a problem with the resellers taking advantage of the situation and charging 2 and 3 times the normal cost. Like I said in my earlier post, I have a good little stock of 9mm but only 100 rounds of that was purchased at "Walmart" prices. And maybe if people would stop purchasing this extremely over priced ammo, availability would settle down and therefore prices would come back down. People are free to do whatever they want. This is America after all. But don't be surprised when people call you out on it.
  7.  I can't comment about the Mossy because I have never shot one, but I have a 870 Express and the Hawk 982. I prefer the Hawk over the Remington. The Hawk just seems to be a better quality gun to me. And I am satisfied that this knockoff was well worth the money. And the action does smooth up after use.
  8. Yes and yes. I purchased a Hawk 982 from CTD a couple of months ago and I absolutely love it. I have added a ATI 6-position stock and Magpul forearm, both for the 870. From my understanding, the only Rem 870 part that does not work is the barrel. But, keep in mind that it is heavier than the 870. For the $200 price range, I would highly recommend it and  I love the ghost ring sight.
  9. I know I haven't been a member of this site long enough that anyone here really cares what I think, but I'm going to give my opinion anyway. I just purchased a 9mm handgun in Feb. I currently have around 650 rounds of plinking ammo and about 150 rounds of self defense ammo (more than I'll probably ever use for self defense, hopefully)  and have shot up several hundred rounds at the range. All of this has been purchased since Feb.. For the practice rounds I have not paid more than $22 for a box of 50. It has been out there. It's a little higher than I like but not unreasonable. I absolutely refuse to pay any more than that and think anyone who buys the over priced ammo from resellers are just idiots. But just because I think its stupid doesn't mean that they should not be able to do it or that someone doesn't have a right to sell it for extremely outrageous price. I do, however have a problem with the scalpers that take all their relatives and friends with them to Walmart and buy up all the ammo on a regular basis. I also have a problem with Walmart when they always put out the ammo on the same days at the same times. It just feeds the scalpers and makes it harder for the regular customer to be able to purchase ammo. I don't even stop to check at Walmarts anymore because I know there won't be anything there anyway. All I know is that this argument needs to end. It is solving nothing and just causing bad feelings. Just my 2 cents, like it or not. I'm not going to argue either side of the issue.
  10.   Yes. I was very satisfied with Range USA. The instructor I had was a lieutenant for the Madison County Sheriffs Dept. He was entertaining and seemed very knowledgeable. I took my classes over two nights and I believe that he was on duty with the sheriffs dept in the daytime. And I do believe that Range USA has a range in Jackson also.   edit - I believe Lenior City is close to Knoxville so my info won't help him much. But for any one in the Memphis area, I would definitely recommend Range USA.
  11. The range qualifications have recently changed. I did mine last week and the distances are now 3, 5, and 7 yards. But the size of the target has gotten smaller. The target itself is now 22 inches tall by 11 inches wide. Passing score was 70 out of 100. They get this by giving either 2, 1, or 0 points depending on how close you are to bullseye. I took the test at Range USA at Memphis. It was not as hard as it seems. I got 91/100 and I had several shots that missed the scoring area of the target. I am willing to post a photo of the target it you need me to but I'm not really sure how to do it yet.
  12. I try to take everything told to me by a state worker with a grain of salt. I'm hoping mine comes much quicker than the 90 days. If I'm remembering correctly, I think the instructor for my class was saying the average was around 21 days after fingerprinting. Of course, that goes back to the "grain of salt" thing.
  13. Dang, guess I'll just have to play the waiting game and just be surprised when it arrives. Thanks for the response.
  14. If I'm understanding the OP correctly, he was able to put in his HCP at a DMV and then able to check the status online at https://apps.tn.gov/handgun/. I went to the DMV in Covington today and also went for fingerprinting today. After getting home I started looking for what could be the confirmation number but couldn't find one. I decided to call the support number for the apps.tn.gov website to see if they could tell me what to use. What the lady told me was that website only gives the status if you submitted the application online. She also said the confirmation number would be 9 digits. I cannot find a 9 digit number anywhere on my application. What am I missing here? I realize that my information probably would not be in the system yet but, is what I was told true? If not where would I find a confirmation number?
