  1. I don't think we can rely on the NRA to do anything for us at the state level. And I'm OK with that as long as they keep any more federal level restrictions from coming down on us.   We need to all be members of the TFA and send them our support. The TFA is the organization that is going to focus on these issues with TN state law. I heard John Harris outline his plan for the upcoming elections at the recent Knoxville TFA meeting, and I think it is our best chance at fixing some of the issues with the supermajority that no longer wants to listen to us.
  2. $38,000 seems like a lot to take down some signs. Hell we could probably get a few volunteers on here to go around taking them down for free.   Honestly though, if the cost of taking down existing signs is going to keep anything like this from ever going through, how do we ever improve on the current situation?
  3. Just watched the video and didn't see them say the reason it was put "behind the budget".   I freakin hate politicians...
  4. Where do you see that? I believe that means it is put on hold until a way to pay for it is found. I'm not sure what in this bill would need to be paid for.
  5. That committee (Finance, Ways & Means) is hearing it today. Not sure if they already have.
  6. I got mine in 2012 and I'm not on there. A friend of mine who got his in 2010 isn't on there.
  7. Does anyone know where Waggoner stands on any issues other than "cronyism"? I can't find anything of substance on his website. I specifically want to know where he stands on 2nd Amendment issues. When it comes to issues that will get my vote, cronyism isn't even a blip on my radar. I want a Sheriff that isn't going to be agitating to ban guns in county parks, and isn't going to be going around asking businesses to put up gun buster signs. I want a Sheriff's department that defends my civil rights, including my right to keep and bear arms.   So far I've been pleased with the Knox county Sheriff's department so I'm very hesitant to vote for some other guy when I don't know where he stands on these issues.   Also, I didn't get one of these letters (so far), but I also didn't take the class through the Sheriff's department.
  8. So what's the next step? Does it go to the full House for a vote now? If so, is it on the calendar yet?
  9. "Mothers against women being able to defend themselves from rapists" recently held a press conference to push their agenda of keeping us from defending ourselves in parks: http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140228/NEWS/302280152/1972/NEWS02   Of course that got some coverage in the Tennessean. At least they admit in the article that the meeting was "lightly-attended". I wonder if the TFA were to hold a press conference in support of the bill if the Tennessean would cover that.   It drives me crazy how these people act like this bill would allow ANYONE to carry in parks. I wonder if they even realize that it only applies to people who have had to take a training class and a written and shooting test, and undergone fingerprinting and a background check. It seems like perfect "common sense" to me that the people this bill allows to carry are not going to be the next mass shooters, but might actually be someone that stops the next mass shooting.   I feel like we need to be on the offence here, holding our own press conferences and other things to get the actual facts out there in front of people. If some busybody soccer mom can get press coverage for her political agenda, why can't we?
  10.   I got an email today from the NRA about current TN legislation and they are still supporting this bill. It would be nice if the TFA could comment on the amendments being proposed, hopefully they will make a statement on it soon. Right now the only step backwards I'm hearing would be the playground thing that would screw up some parks, but as far as I know that is more of a rumor than any sort of actual amendment at this point (correct me if I'm wrong).   The amendment regarding school functions sucks, but it's identical to what current law is, so at least it's not a step backwards. If this can pass without getting something added that prohibits carry in all parks that contain playgrounds then it would still be an improvement over the current situation.
  11. Well that sucks because currently all state parks are good to go, it's just the city/county parks that are opting out that are an issue.
  12. Got this from the NRA today:     Go here and enter your address to get the contact info for your senators.
