  1. I had yet another DR. Appt today and I think my body is quitting on me. I went in last week for
what I thought was a heart attack. It ended up being extremely high BP. Then I go in today becausey knee was really swollen and extremely painful. I found out I have a minuscus tear and have a sergical consult in the morning. While looking at my X-rays the Dr. said that I have the worst knee she has ever seen. It is so bad they are looking into replacement. The really sad part is I have always felt that was my good knee. I just can't believe after all the years of no issues this all came about in 8 days. Oh we'll I guess it just means I get to spend more time with the kids.

    Welcome to my world....

  2. Lived there. Fun place. Still got relatives living in Anchorage and down on the Kenai.

Cold long winters with 2 hours of daylight. Summers are much better 2 hours of twilight then the sun pops back up.

Lots of critters. My favorite old Red Salmon fishing hole on the Russian used to be fun but it's over run with bears now. Prior to that the only thing we had to worry about was a Moose and her calf. Everyone carries when they're fishing (mostly big bore rifles).

Cool as it all is cabin fever is a big dot deal in AK and cause's lots of folks to go a lil bonkers, if you get my drift.

Anchorage used to be open carry with anything you wanted to carry be it a pistol or .375 H&H.

I think it takes more courage for me to shoot a full load Ruger in .44Mag than most folks because imho the design is bad and causes the

darned thing to spin back and wack the web of your hand. I have  S&W in .44M and love em.

I started to watch one of the shows and it brought back memories so I turned it off. I like living here in W. TN. :)

  3. Why is it wifes just don't understand when something follows you home?

Anyway, my Exemplary Anshutz Exemplar, 10 inch bbl in .22LR. Enjoy!

I just took it out for a 20 minute range test to see if I could get it on paper. Lots of issues to resolve. A 2-stage trigger that has way too much

take up (about a 1/2 inch and I'm used to 1/16th). It's also crisp and breaks like glass but it's a little heavy so I'm going to be making some

adjustments. The scope is a Redfield 6X18 that I'm going to replace with my weaver T-36.

I plan on shooting it in 2 weeks at the BR match for grins.

  4. I gotta agree with NRA about the CMP. IMHO it's not what it's cracked up to be. Yes, the folks that haunt the forums are helpful but the CMP is just another money grabbing Ho in Govt clothing. Go ahead ask me why?

Anyone old enough to remember the DCM? It was actually set up to teach civilians who could legally own firearms how to shoot and allowed them to purchase military surplus firearms. Kinda like keeping our folks knowledgeable about shooting skills. Militia? Let's not go there right now because the real issue is all they do now is take in surplus rifles, run a safety check on them and then pretty much sell them to the highest bidder. Somehow and IMHO that was never the reason for the DCM.

I remember you could go to a DCM shoot, qualify with a Garand and walk away with one new in the box for $200. Now it's, "if you want a Carbine then go to the auction and bid on one".

So, is it a civilian marksmanship program or just another way to make a bunch of money, that goes where, to do what? If the rifles were meant for U.S. folks then they should ALL be put up for sale on a first come, first served basis with a set price and no auctions along with 1 per customer. When now more sales are forth coming then open rifles back up to allow one more per customer.

So yes, I agree with NRA.

  5. I used one back in '72 thru '74. They work. You get a little cup measure but you need to confirm it's the right measuring device for the type of powder used or you might have some high pressure. In others words, if the recipe calls for 30 grains and you scoop up a full cup it needs to measure 30 grains not 40 for a given size bullet. Keep the base clean of any foriegn matter, too. The last steps includes stuffing a primed, powder filled case into a holder (read chamber) then placing that on top of the base. Then you place the bullet on top of the case, stick the seater on top of that and give it a wack. The final seating wack always bothered me but it worked. I was always waiting for the day it would go bang but it didn't.

Personally I didn;t know anyone who reloaded for those nagants. The ammo was always so cheap no one bothered.

    Hope this helps

  6. Welcome aboard. If you live in Arlington the  you live only 5-10 minutes away from Memphis Sport Shooting Association.

I think our range is on 182 acres of land and we practice every discipline of shooting you might think of with the exception

of .50 cal due no one is sure the round won't go through the backstop at 600 yds then travel another 1/2 mile and kill

some farmers cow or something.  I won't discuss all the different types of shooting but suggest you head over to our website

and have a look for yourself. Just google mssa memphis tn and you will find it.

We used to have a Garand matches and even had them in the schedule but some Navy dumb butt kept dragging all his Navy buddies

with their AR's to the match trying to turn it into a cross the course match so we kinda quit shooting them. What's really funny

about that butt head is he's on our board and will flat out tell anyone who disagrees with him. If you don't like it vote me out.  I have

very little use for that type of person.

Anyway, the club is expensive to join and there are sometimes politics involved but the members are very good people. Remember, it's

the members that make the club not a few buttheads.

You are welcome to come out and shoot as my guest if you'd like to shoot your Garand or Carbine or any other thing you got.

    Just shoot me a pm.

  7. Lg,

I got mine in Bartlett years ago.

The morning started a 830am was spent in class going over the TN Laws. At Range USA they offer up lunch for a price but have good food to serve

from their short order cook. They only gave us around a 30 min lunch then back into class to finish up and take the written.

Depending on your class size they may split up into two groups to go into the range to shoot while the other group sits around twiddling their

    thumbs.

On the range, they have you load 5 rounds and you will end up shooting every thing slow fire. The target stats at like 2 or 3 yards. It was so close that

you can darn near reach out and touch it. After that round you will reload on command and the target moves back to 7 yds, then 15, then 25 then it comes back

in to 15 and so on til you use up 50 rounds.

Heck, it's been so long I don't even remember what the passing score was but no one will hold yer feet to the fire to do anything fast so take yer time.

No-no's. make sure you follow their instructions to the letter on the range. Do not shoot on to anyone else's target or you lose points.

You pay whoever gives you the class then you pay TN like $115 or so for your permit. Permits last around 4 years and they send you a renewal notice in the

mail ($50 to renew). If you miss your renewal date you gotta go through the whole course again and pay all the money....again.

I shot my quals with a P220 I had bought the day before. I had stopped at wally world and bought 2 boxes of ammo and was going to shoot it at Range...

When i walked in people were signing up for the class the next day (sat.) so I signed up and shoot the gun for the first time during quals. To this day it's

one of the best shooting .45's I ever owned. It was a single/double action pistol (SA/DA). One of the older ones.

When yer done you have to hang around until they score your target. They also note the gun you qualified on.  At this range they finger print you right there so

you don't have to go anywhere else but the DMV. It may take until 6pm to get done.

    Hope this helps.

  8. I stand vindicated:

"The main goal of preemtion is state wide consistancy on blade carry laws."

"The law is very vague in this( but I don't speak lawyer)."

"Hopefully next year the parts that were gutted-out will pass, such as removing restrictions auto knives and blade lenght restrictions."

    (key word is hopefully).

"No the sheriffs assoc got that part thrown out. Autos are still illegal to carry.""

"Yep. Expand these rights just like the liberal freedom grabbers take 'em away.....one step at a time."

"This is indeed good news. We still have a lot of work ahead, but as you pointed out in previous threads...one step at a time. And this is a great first step."

"Great news, looking forward to getting the 4 inch limit repealed as soon as possible now."

"The four inch limit is state law.  And that is still in effect.

Well a step in the right direction."

The laws are STILL the same. There are no further step since there doesn't need to be. The Governor signed a bill that says

we don't really need anymore bills on knifes because we have them as restrictive as we need them right now but it will sure

    look good come re-election time.

You will vote for the incumbent thinking about all the good things they are doing for you which was what?

America is a Republic not a Democracy. Spend some time reading why our forefathers wanted a Republic rather than

    a Democracy.

If anyone actually cares about and wants to know about the values of our Nation all they need do is say the Pledge of

Allegiance and actually think about the words they are saying. It's all right there.

  9. I think your question is actually asking for a males point of view because they are the ones that are thinking about their wives wants just as much

    as salesmen do.

My wife is not much of a gun person but my daughter started shooting with her husband a few years ago and what do you think

he did? He ran out an bought her a P-22. She shot it and all but a couple of months ago I was out on the pistol range shooting my .45 ACP and

the kids showed up. My daughter asked if you could try out my 1911. I looked at her slight frame (110 lbs) and stuck one round in the chamber

thinking she was not going to like it all at. She aimed, fired and hit the target fine! She then looked at me and said, "Dad, you got anymore ammo?"

I handed her a full mag and she was off to the races. Would you believe they sold the P-22 and she shoots whatever catches her fancy that either

I or my son-in-law brings out.

I'd have to say that we give women their due and let them decide what they like up front without steering them to pop guns. I do think its a good idea

to hand them a .22 if they're never tried a pistol before and the only reason is they are handling something new and why add any stress by having

recoil become a factor when they're starting out. Recoil can come later. Notice I did not say to buy them a .22. I'm saying take out a mess of guns

and let them shoot em all but let them chose what they want to try next.

And with that I think I'll retire back into the shadows and let the ladies have their say. :)

    Lp

    everything.

  10. Perhaps, but anyone wonder if the step is nothing more than a pitiful attempt for our politicians to get re-elected?

How is it really different than the bill they passed that says you can legally leave your weapon in your car at work but

your employer can still just as legally fire you for doing so. There sure is a lot of value in that.

One of the reasons O was re-elected was because he promised groups of people that if they voted for him he'd

reciprocate in kind. For instance, if you look closely there are a number of unions who voted for him and they are now

exempt from O-Care. The Mexicans went whole hog for him so they could get immigration reform.

IMHO, we are going about this wrong because the politicians have turned voting around. By this I mean they are saying,

"look what I've done for you". The fix is to tell people running for office on the next term that you want to see a change from

what the current politicians have have done for us to what we want them to do for us.

Shelby County and the surrounding suburbs of Memphis have just gotten tagged with a +4 % property tax hike and Monday they

want to get together to add a bit more on it. Their reason is since property taxes due to assessed home values as a result of

depreciation of the housing market is way down so all they can do is raise them. SAY WHAT! They said it themselves! The housing

market is down. People are in trouble with their homes. RAISE PROPERTY TAXES! Great fix! How about we get someone in there

that will balance the budget? Show me on Major Corporation that would run their business that way?

What taxpayer in their right mind would vote to keep these people in office? We need to tell those running against the incumbents

what we want to see happen, and not have them say what they can do for us. And, if they don't they're gone!

There is an old saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We are seeing that today. The only way to change

it is to tell the politicians, this is what we want not what you want.

Vote em all out!! Anything less is like the definition of insanity...repeating (Voting) the same thing (for the incumbents) while expecting a different outcome.

Almost forgot during my rant...Even though those same politicians won't say it, we are already into inflation with double digit inflation right

around the corner. You don't have to look at gun and ammo prices just go down to your local grocery stores (Krogers) and look at the

just how much your dollar will buy.

And now that I think about it. I was in Wally World last night and looked at a 2013 gun price book. A used H&R Springfield Trap Door 45-70

in excellent condition is $379. If anyone has seen one at that price in the last few years or has one for sale at that price I'd sure like to

buy it. I'd prefer one in good condition at $275 though. LOL!!! Inflation at work! Thanks!!!

  11. The last two guns shows were very productive for me. I got 3 guns and sold one. All that for 2 days for $10? When the dolls, candles and detergeant folks

takeover the gun shows then I'll stop going. I always go with a mind to get a few things and end up buying guns and stuff.

You, Sir, are interested in just a few accessories and it might be more productive to buy on line. Personally, I'm not fond of shipping charges.

I decided I was looking for a 45-70 and can't wait to see what shows up at the next gun show.

    Lp

  12. On another note a revolver will let you blow the gun up if you stick one in the barrel (like a squib) since if you don't notice nothing much happening in the heat

of a shoot you can easily followup with a blown barrel or worse.

On the other hand if I forget to put powder in my .45 ACP will normally stick the bullet in the barrel but does not have enough power to cycle a new round into

the chamber.  While you mileage may vary I'd suggest you stick with the right bullet for the right gun and stop when anything appears different.

    Hope this helps.
