  1. Definately hitting the woods this Saturday! We've been scouting for about 4 wks now and set the blind up and are ready to go! A 10 yr old and a 14 yr old...hoping to make a memory!
  2. I was reading on GT the other night about reloading and the issues with "kabooms" and the concensus seemed to be that the majority of them were from inferior loads. I own a G27 that I carry daily and have considered another conversion barrel as well. I do own a Bar-Sto for my Sig 229 and can't say enough good things about the product...not really sure if they manf something for the G27 though. There was a .357 barrel posted on GT for around $90 yesterday but most of the barrels posted on the site go very quickly. GT is a great resource regarding the reloads and possible issues you may encounter...
  3. Although I will always be partial to my Sig....I carry a G27 w/extensions...the 229 will pull my pants down before I get to the car...the Glock is lighter more compact and easier to conceal, deadly accurate as well...which is what is needed for ccw...but the Sig?.....buttery smooth....

    Where to go

Welcome to the area....We live in Gallatin and love the area. I also sell Real Estate here and Hendersonville as well (hang my liscense at the Hendersonville office of Crye-Leike). There are really no places to shoot other than private land thats here close. I have a few land owners that I do business with that I use to dial in scopes and such..."pm" me and I'll see what I can find in the Portland area as well....welcome!
  5. I wonder how in the "olden" days before scent-lok, ultraviolet laundry detergent, scent free lip balm, deodorant, soap, shampoo, gum, spray...not to mention the carbon lined clothing, scent free socks, boots...probably a liner for the seat of my pants out there to filter my farts...carbon lined bags for storage....I know I'm missing something..... how did they EVER manage to kill anything for food or sport....especially the whitetail.....I'll ask my grandfather and he'll say "well, we ate a big breakfast, threw our crap in the truck and went huntin'...even pee'd along the scrapes if thats where mother nature called, and we did just fine...just stay downwind....your a victim of marketing boys".... I would write some more but I have to figure out how to get my carbon-lined blind rolled back up and put in the pouch........
  6. FINALLY RECEIVED MY PERMIT!....heres the story...completed course @ Guns & Leather and Fingerprints there as well...all docs logged into the DOS on June 26th...so, my brother-in-law, who had an app date of the same time received his permit 4 weeks ago....there began my calls! I initially contacted the DOS and went to whomever would field the call...told that "we're waiting for your background check to come back"....so, I gave it a couple days and called again. Well, this time, like another forum member on this thread, was told.."well your app date is July 15th and I see here that your background request was sent out Aug 15th"...when I mentioned the information that I already knew I was told "sorry sir, thats what the system says"..after a day or two cooling off period I sent the commissioner an e-mail to the attn of Lisa Knight...after a couple of days Lisa replied to me stating that my background was missing but she would look into it. Next day she sent an email and called and stated that she located it and would have it entered into the system and I should receive the permit in 7-14 days. She was very apologetic and sincere. So, 8 days later...I'm headed to Wal-Mart! With everything that is wrong with this system, and the inconsistencies with application turnaround, I must say that Lisa is a VERY KIND lady and possibly a little frustrated with the whole process as well...oh well, at least I can brag and say I got mine a day early!
  7. Decide on your budget....personal defense is no place to cut corners. You mentioned going to a shop to get the look / feel of various weapons...great idea...once you handle one/several that turn your toes up...rent them and take them to the range. Many that look / feel great will either be ruled out or make the short list based upon how the action "feels" to you and recoil along with ease of operation and accuracy. If the "Mrs" is unfamiliar with weapons, a class would be recommended once you have made your purchase (if she would be handeling the weapon you should BOTH make the decision...she must be comfortable with it as well). Remember....the gun you choose should be based upon your confidence level with the weapon....an open-ended question such as "what would you guys recommend?", will sometimes lead to more confusion....that's why they make chocolate and vanilla...everyone is different. I prefer SIGS...some prefer Glocks...others XD's....the gun that is right for me may not be the right one for you. Good luck with your search / purchase!
