  1. What is you guys' opinion on the "Dissipator" style AR's. 16" barrel, rifle length sight radius midlength gas system, or sometimes full rifle length gas system on a 16" barrel
  2. Ok, at this point I have scrapped the idea of an M16A1 clone, but now I still have thee options of an M16A4 clone, m-4gery, or an SPR build.
  3. Yea, as of right now anything is a possibility. I would just like to have an A4 clone, if I can't have that, I'll go with a SPR style thingy, or if that is not feasible, I'll go ahead and do a DDM4 upper and make it "tactical"
  4. another thing I would like to ask, which caliber should I go with? 5.56/.223, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC II, 300 BLK, 50 Beowulf?
  5. Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the firearms world, just got my first handgun and only own 3.5 long guns and an AR lower, and have been advised to purchase/build and AR type rifle. I have decided to build one and cannot decide what kind of build i should go with. I'm stuck between an m16a4 clone, and m16a1 clone, or something totally custom and "tacticool". I don't really want to spend $375 on a rail for the m16a4 clone, but kind of considering it. I'm fairly sure I want a 20" barrel, but cannot really find one with a 1:7 twist, and took me forever to find one with a 1:8 twist for about $150 or $270 for one with polygonal rifling. Thanks in advance.
  6. the 1911 was my choice (or the coin's choice, whatever). The 1911 of choice was in the classifieds, ex-race gun. We have decided to meet up soon to transact our commodities. I will post an update when I have shot a few mags out of it.
  7. The coin toss, once again a sacred ritual only to be performed in time of need, has shown me the ways. I flipped my lucky dollar coin with a president of which has the same first name as me, therefore making it my lucky dollar coin. The coin has told me to go with the 1911 and purchase the Beretta a little bit later. Or I may not get the Beretta and go with something such as a GLock.
  8. the coin flip is a sacred ritual. At this point it is a last resort option. if the handgun has not been chosen by 7:00 local time. I will flip it. It shall be a two out of three, Heads being Kimber and tails being Beretta. Wish me luck. lol
  9. And good experiences please. That might relieve some of my discomfort. (With both, heard some horror stories about Beretta, but those might have just been bad apples)
  10. ummm...bad experiences with Kimber don't make me feel very comfortable..... Anyone ever had bad experiences with Beretta?
  11. I will make sure to try that. The Beretta is technically $618 and some change plus tax and background check, but, being military, I get 10% off at my local dealer.
  12. I actually got a chance to play with a hi-point earlier today. It was kinda finicky the first mag or so, but after that it ran beautifully.
  13. What kind of bad experiences have you had with Kimber. Just wondering, will you share your experience(s) with them please?
  14. I like good quality and information on what I am buying before I impulse buy something.
  15. I am sorry if i have pissed you off sir, but I believe I have adequately updated my question. And i thank you for your input.
  16. Ok guys i have run into a brick wall here. There are two handguns pf which I really want to purchase, but as of right now I can only choose one. Oh, and I have to make my decision tomorrow, otherwise i will lose out on both of them, and have to settle for something else. not exactly sure what exactly that would be. The Kimber Custom II i will purchase used for $750 and the Beretta 92FS I will purchase new for $627 and some change. I am looking for a good general purpose handgun, probably not going to carry it though. Have had some experience with both, but not exactly an expert in either. The reason I am looking at these particular models is because, parts are widely available, accuracy isn't too much of an issue, and neither is reliability (from what i have heard at least). The 1911 has over 100 years of being around, it's probably doing something right. And the Beretta, it's been in use as the Army's standard issue sidearm for more almost 30 years now, it's also probably doing something right. I thank in advance for everyone of which tries to help.
  17. I also found this great deal on a beretta 92 in my local store. After fondling it for a bit, it seems real nice.
  18. OK guys, it has come down to these five options, or you can try to sway me more. Cot Stainless Government ($1000), Colt O1980XSE ($850-$1150), Kimber Custom II ($750), Colt Series 70 ($700-$1000) or a Springfield Armory GI that may or may not be in stock at my local gun store. Let me see what you guys think. (I think you guys can see that I have been swayed towards Colt)
  19. And now, I am considering an m1a/m14 style rifle. don't really know a whole lot about these so some educating would be nice. Thanks in advance.
  20. Ok guys, so I have an akm, a mosin 91/30 and am half-way through building my ak-74. I can't decide whether i want a 1911 or build an ar-15. Both fall into the same price range, only i would have to wait another pay check or two to build an ar-15. I've been wanting both of these for a long time now, now I have some money, but can only pay for one :( If i go with the 1911 i will go with a stainless Colt government model, if i decide to build an ar-15 i will be building an m16a4 clone. What do you guys think? Yes i am capable of making my own desicions at times, but i want to hear your opinon. Thanks in advance.
  21. I'm looking for my first handgun. I'm leaning toward the 1911 because, well, why not? "specifically" if you want to call it that, I am looking for a Government model, best overall quality as possible from the factory without having to "kitchen gunsmith it," i.e. reliable, accurate, etc. Not exactly brand-specific, but have heard Colts are some of the best in this price range. Is this true? Or if you want to steer me away from 1911's go ahead. I probably won't take that advice though, so be warned, you might just be wasting your time. My budget is about $1100.  Thanks in advance.
