  1. Also, keep in mind with the barrels linked in this thread so far; you'll end up having about 3-4 Lbs hanging off the front end of the receiver, so you may want a heavier stock to counter the weight.

I'm planning on looking for a stock once I find the barrel I want. I may look at a shorter fixed stock like a M16A1.
  2. I'm going to be going for a similar build soon, and am probably going this routehttps://www.primaryarms.com/Yankee_Hill_20_Inch_Barrel_Threaded_Fluted_1_9_p/yhm-79-tf.htm

Plus, friends don't let friends buy from Cheaper Than Dirt. :-D

I looked at that but the tight ass in me is willing to do business with them to save some money. I figure that this build is probably going to be the last thing I can do for 4 years so I need to save some money while I'm in college. I hate Cheaper Than Dirt but I will save some money on buying unnecessary things that I don't really need.
  3. Just out of curiosity what are you wanting to use this build to do? I'm going the opposite direction with a 16" barrel.

I want a AR with a rifle length gas system. Something that I can utilize 55 gr bullets out of and I can take out west and shoot prairie dogs with. I'd be OK with an 18" if I could find one. I also do want the increased muzzle velocity from a 16" barrel.
  4. You can come out way cheaper by buying all the different parts and paying someone to assemble them than buying a BCM upper. In any case building an upper isn't difficult with the right tools if you decide to go that route yourself.

So all I'd have to buy if I kept my same upper is a barrel, gas tube, front sight, rear sight, and handguard.
  5. So I've been meaning to change something with my AR for a while and after the meet and greet I started doing my research on barrels and uppers. I want a 1:9 twist barrel and a full length gas system. From what I understand this leaves me with getting a 18" or 20" barrel. So would it be cheaper to buy a new barrel and all the additional parts or just buy a completed upper (a BCM upper). I honestly don't know squat about building and I'd probably need some guidance.
  6. Plenty of Jr. shooters have shot a lot more than you, but that doesn't mean they can carry a handgun. Soldiers learn responsibility and accountability. Don't confuse that with rounds down range. I'm glad you shoot and like clays. I have worn out two shotguns and thought I could shoot a pistol until I did some formal training with pistols. Whole different ballgame, let alone the responsibility carrying one around most of the time. By the way, plenty of folks beyond the 'arbitrary age' are still not responsible and for that matter probably shouldn't even vote.

I'm not claiming to be the "be all, end all" when it comes to shooting. I can see your side of the coin but I don't agree with it. I can also see that you can't see mine. I'm just going to leave it at this post on this thread.
  7. IF the 18yo is in the military I would go along with it. Otherwise most are still living at home and I wouldn't trust. Con. Carry is aways off. I think the sign law needs changed.

Because they are so much better trained in the military with handguns right? I thought that the average soldier maybe touches a handgun once at boot and probably never again. I'm guessing your logic is that a soldier is much better trained with a handgun than the average citizen? So let me put this into an example for you: for the last 5 years I have shot a minimum of 250 shells a week in my shotgun and the last year and a half I have shot about 100 rounds a month out of my pistol. Based on just total rounds that I have shot wouldn't that make me more qualified to carry either of these weapons that a soldier? I'm sorry but we will let an 18 year old vote and buy a long gun but not buy or carry a handgun. This is asinine. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right but I'm technically wrong because I haven't reached an arbitrary age where I suddenly become more responsible.

  8. Those 4B in 3" would definatly hit hard though. If it's hovering it's a straight on shot.

Oh sure but if I'm operating a drone and I see a gun with a gun I'm scooting. That's why I suggested the duck loads. Throw in a IC or LM choke and it flies it dies.
  9. You think these would make good "Drone Loads"?
These bastids were the reason I took the plastic butt plate off my Stoeger Uplander SxS and put on a recoil pad.

Something for hunting ducks or geese would probably be better. 3 or 3.5 inch 2s or 3s would be better for a moving target.
