  1. Thanks, I watched a utube video that shows the disassembly of the gun. Inside the stock, there is an extra piece in the barrel channel, held in by two screws. Speculation is that they may be planning on a bull barrel version. For target shooting folks, they'll almost have to offer a heavy barrel. I would imagine after two or three of those 10 round mags through that pencil barrel, it would heat up. I think the ads say the barrel is full floating...dunno.

The one I looked at didn't have a bull barrel but it wasn't a pencil barrel either. I think the only way it would heat up practically is shooting prairie dogs or game like that.
  2. Shotguner, what was it about the gun that failed to impress you? Was it the fit and finish, the weight, that huge plastic bolt handle, or just the synthetic stock? What did they have on the pricetag? Personally, I'm old school and prefer wood furniture to plastic. I'm just wondering if a wood stock would make it pretty heavy. How did it feel...balance and shouldering?

I'm not sure if Savage is considering a wood stock or not. Were you able to remove and reinstall the mag? Some have had complaints about the mag falling out. Just wondering if you had the chance to check that out.

Does anyone else have one? Has anyone shot one and put it through the paces?

It was the bolt and stock. It felt light almost like a toy. We have a few Savages and they all tend to feel like this but it just seemed to be exaggerated by the barrel. That may just be me though.
  3. I have to agree. This seems almost unbelievable to me in a civilian setting. I don't know if I could bring myself to let someone I had only just met shoot past me, much less shoot past them. With my luck, I'd have some crazy malfunction with the gun or the ammo that lands them in the hospital or the ground. That's just too much liability compared to the benefits gained from the drill in my opinion.

I'd be interested to see the video though. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how the drill works and am over reacting.

Good on you, OP, for taking a class though! It sounds like there was some really good stuff you got to learn.

Still can't upload but if you want to see some of the stuff we did I put up a video of Pistolcraft I from his YT.
  4. The best carry knife I've ever owned was a Zero Tolerance, but in all fairness I've never had one of the other 2 brands. I will say that of all the knives I own, my Spyderco with an Emerson-like mod is the one I reach for every single day. There's just something about that thing flicking open on the pull that I really love. No matter how fast an automatic is or how easy an assisted open is, they don't compare to already being open when you draw it out. YMMV

I'd get the Emerson with the wave feature, if it were my money. Here's my favorite: http://emersonknives.com/shop/cqc-10/1410/

I just like the look of the Emersons but then again I like the ProTech with the TGO logo on it.

There you go! Have you already put in your order?

This is one of the reasons I'm struggling with this decision. I may put in an order late but at the moment I can't justify this purchase. It'll be on hold for a while. I want one of these knives because of the TGO logo. I know I haven't been on here long but this is by far the best forum I'm a member of.

  6. I'm currently having a fight within myself. I can't decide if I want an Emerson, Zero Tolerance or ProTech knife. I'm not quite sure on the model but they all seem to be in the same ballpark when it comes to price. I don't even know what I'll do or when I'll do it but I guess fretting over my next purchase will give me something to do in my spare time.
  7. Just based off of what I've heard and talking to Ford people it seems that the current EcoBoost is actually a diesel block. They say the engine is supposed to be good for 400K but that's just word of mouth. I may or may not be right.
  8. Russian ship is presumably sunk. They placed and detonated charges around the ship. The carrier scientist was shown walking through the passages wearing a Russian sailor's uniform. They then cut to a scene of the Americans in their boat with the Russian ship blowing up in the background.

They didn't actually show the Russian ship sink, but it seems like it would have been damaged beyond repair, and the fact that the crew was exposed to the scientist would suggest that some survivors would be infected. However, I believe they left open the fate of the commander in case they want to bring him back; they could always say he escaped on a different life boat than the scientist.

The next time we see any clue of what happened is the scientist shows up at a Florida beach refugee camp wearing the Russian uniform. They said he arrived on the inflatable raft (RIB?) from the Russian ship.

I remember it was taking on water and was heavily damaged but I didn't remember it going down. I'm back up to speed now.
  9. I don't shoot anything competitively but would lIke to at some point. My daughter's high school started a trap team her senior year so we learned the game together just a few years ago. We've been members since then, but for the last 2 years we've probably only been able to go 5 times a year

Who did she shoot for? I've shot SCTP for five years.
  10. I may take you up on that if i see that i have a good day to get away from work for an hour or so. My shooting partner (daughter) is away at college 10 months a year now, so we haven't been since her Christmas break. We still maintain our membership, but only get to go when she's here on break. I've been itching to go since she got home from school a month ago, but work has been slammed this spring/summer.

Do you shoot ATA? If you do I may know you but if you've been a member up there awhile you may know my family. I wish I could shoot more than I do but that'll change since I'm on scholarship to shoot.
  11. Yes. I actually surprised how fast they are moving the story along. With the first episode, I figured (based on other shows) it would be three seasons before they would have a vaccine. At least now the actors don't have to wear those bio suits while filming in humid environments.

What happened to the Russian ship and how did their scientist get onto land? Because I don't remember seeing anything on them since last season after they got away from them after getting the woman and kid off the ship.
  12. I've been wanting to take my 18.5" SLP to the nashville gun club to get it broken-in to where it'll reliably cycle bird shot. They say it takes about 500 rounds so it'll take several visits.I have no great reason for it to reliably cycle birdshot, I just want it to be able to run with anything i feed it should I run out of buckshot.
They have a little sporting clay area that has some stands that are pretty close shots and you are free to bounce around just between the stands that suit you or your gun. That'd be a heck of a lot more fun and challenging than me standing out shooting 500 rounds into paper. I'd recommend giving it a try, but I'm no big time shotgunner, and my daughter and I run rem. 1100 and win. 1400 so I won't be ashamed to try out my 18.5" barrel as the good shooters are already making fun of my other guns anyway lol.

If you want to go some day shoot me a PM. I go up there about once a month. It would be nice to have someone else to shoot with if you'd be interested.
