another question is if the snub in 357 would provide enough power to get through a bear's hide?

The hide it should. The concern would be a frontal skull hit on a charging bear. After doing the hard part of actually hitting that moving target with a snub, a good hardcast lead bullet or swc should punch through hide and bone. I would rather have that setup than an expanding bullet when penetration to reach the CNS is more important.

Bear spray is probably a better choice for a charging bear IMO, but I still always have a gun in the woods

If we had grizzlies then I would want something else.

  2. 357 for me as well. I live on a farm and also spend a lot of time in the woods. I like to have 357 (when I’m not carrying 10mm 😃). I like the extra penetration of the 357 HC just in case I encounter an aggressive large animal like a bear, hog or mad cow (farm... lol).

I also agree with the versatility. Low power 38 for plinking, 38+p or 357 jhp for SD or hot 357mag hardcast for the woods. Lots of choices with the 357

Conservatives have the Supreme Court that they wanted. Robert’s court has consistently shown that it rules in favor of conservative issues.  I think the older folks paranoid about the big gun grab can relax for the duration of their lives. Younger individuals are good to go for the foreseeable future.

We’re good to go, and the Democrats are happy the SC is letting them off the hook as far as gun control.

This is a huge reason we needed Trump over hillary during those crucial 4 years of multiple SCOTUS appointments. A lot of people say it makes no difference dem or gop, but it matters a lot. Just imagine if we would of had hillary’s appointments rulling on this instead of trump’s. 😱

  4. My grandfather never cleaned any of his guns lol. Ever. He was a regular hunter his whole life, so he used them a lot. When I got some of his old guns they were heavily used and some probably 50yrs in need of a cleaning. Yes, they were rough (character marks 😊), but they're fine. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

He loved to tell me the story how he dropped his 300H&H in a creek in OR crossing a log while elk hunting. Sounded like a real chore to actually get it back. I often look at it and think of how many stories that rifle could tell. It sure did need a good cleaning when he finally passed it on. I never bothered to clean his revolver. I figured it’s been a great shooter for 50yrs like it is, why should I mess with it now lol. I don't want to mess with it’s mojo.

I clean my own guns regularly, but the way he used his firearms taught me that it’s usually for my benefit more than the gun’s lol.

A bit of a tip: a flat bottom boat with a small engine will greatly increase your chances on public land.

These pack rafts are pretty cool for crossing rivers and big creeks when combined with a backpack too. Weighs less than 5lbs. Especially useful out west on backpack hunts

Fine, just fulfill the govt. contract to the exact number, change the label and rebrand it for the commercial market.    I am also not sure how the Govt can just change the contract terms for the supplier.  Winchester is not a govt entity.  I have done plenty of business with govt.  They don't get to tell us what we can and can't sell to other people.  If they aren't supplying the whole goods, screw em.

This admin like to play dictator with corporations. I witnessed that first hand when they labeled airlines as government contractors simply so they could required the covid vax. We need some corporations to start pushing back on the .gov

My fascination with last night’s Memphis weather in Knoxville is done. It’s worse this evening.

If I had a bit more privacy and less bugs that heat would be all I’m wearing outside. 😀

It might be worth it... until the sunburn kicks in 😬

  8. The best approach for me is a layering system, so I can adjust as needed. The heat through most of bow season is the worst IMO.

It can get pretty soggy sometimes, but don’t let the rain deter you. One of my most memorable TN hunts was a November bow hunt in a downpour rain. I took my bow instead of muzzleloader because of the rain. It was just before dark and the water was running like a waterfall off my hat. The deer were everywhere! A doe brought a nice buck right under my stand. I guess they thought the woods were free of any hunters on that wet day... nope 😃

I'm not convinced more Christianity is somehow going to stop this issue. Back when more people when to church we had a whole host of other issues. My Baptist friends still think that being gay is a "lifestyle" and will lead to eternal damnation. I'm sure many here do as well.

    ...

Don’t confuse the religion of “Christianity” and “religious” people with those that make an effort to follow the guiding principles of Christ. They are not the same. We need people to get back to the basics, and actually follow The golden rule, the Ten Commandments and other Christian teachings found in the Bible.

You’re right... more “Christianity” in itself won’t do a thing, but people turning from their wicked ways and following Christ absolutely will.

A lot of folks aren't going to like this post and I think I am honestly past the point of caring.  Why?  Because the people who won't like it don't have any solutions either and their feelings on what I am about to say is why we are where we're at in the first place.

This country has forfeited its moral compass.  We have a sin problem that has been intentionally hidden behind the symptomatic mental health problem, which itself is one that not many want to talk about.  We have allowed leftists to take God out of our society.  People, young and old alike, have practically been forbidden to talk in publicly funded places about the God who heals hearts and minds, who tells us what is right and wrong, and with whom heavy human burdens can be traded for peace that transcends worldly hurts.

Kids brains are now saturated from Pre-Kindergarten, forward, with all manner of unnatural doctrines which warp their minds and injure their souls.  They are told that boys with XY chromosomes and penises can call themselves girls, and that girls with XX chromosomes and vaginas can call themselves boys, and that anyone who dares conflict those misconceptions is guilty of assaulting their self-identities.  Men are Women, Adults are Kids, Kids are Sexual Beings, Left is Right, Right is Left, Wrong is Right, Right is Wrong and God is a Myth.

These days, a messed-up kid with a list of grievances in his heart often doesn't have a father AND mother at home to confide in, because we've allowed leftist ideals to destroy the nuclear family.  And if the kid does have one or both at home, there is a chance that one or both are terrible human beings, themselves, and maybe the cause of some of the kid's pain.  Or, at best, apathetic to it because they are just adult-sized children too, living selfish self-centered, hedonistic lives and lacking any natural compassion for their child.

That kid typically hasn't been brought up to understand that there is a real and loving God who cares for him and to whom all of his hurts and pains and anger can be brought to have them sorted out and healed.

So that kid just festers with confusion, anger and rage, like an infection below the skin, just waiting to burst and release all of what has been trapped inside of him.  And then he makes the news, with a weapon of any sort, and a victim or list of victims upon whom he released his wrath.

We are reaping what our society has sown over the past five or more decades.   We asked for this.  And if we want to change it, we've got to get involved.  We have to save our kids by investing in our kids.  Not just our biological children, but our society's children.  There are a lot of kids out there who don't have mom or dad, or for whom mom and dad are a part of the problem.

This isn't a situation where we can write checks and make donations and other people do the work.  If you're reading this and you care about where our society is headed, you can personally get involved and you NEED to.  Kids from Pre-K up to early adulthood need your mentorship, your guidance and your heart.

Like I said, a lot of people won't like this post.  So be it.

Best post of the internet. Hit the nail on the head 👏

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says the Uvalde shooter made three facebook posts in the 30 minutes before yesterday's attack: - "I'm going to shoot my grandmother." - "I shot my grandmother." - "I'm going to shoot an elementary school."

Seems Facebook is all tuned up to ban and censor conservatives or anyone that speaks against abortion or teaching 5 year olds about  LGBHTQRS+%* indoctrination, but they have no mechanism to alert them to actual pending terrorism.

Actually, the more I read about the timeline prior to the Gunman entering the building, I’m not sure the school was his real target.

After he shot his grandmother, he gathered up his gear and fled in a truck. As I understand it, police were chasing him when he wreaked the truck, near the school. He jumped out and had a running gun battle with police as he tried to get away. Unfortunately he ran towards and into the school. Several officers were hit. He than ran into a classroom and barricaded the door. Then proceeded to shot the teacher and the kids in that classroom, until the Border Patrol Tactical Team stormed the class and killed him.

This has me wondering if he ever intended to attack the school in the first place. It almost seems it ended up being a target of opportunity.

That doesn’t lessen the impact on the community or our nation from such a heinous crime.

I just read (I’ll go find the link and post it) that he posted on Facebook after he shot his grandmother that he was going to shoot up an elementary school next. Sick

Not yet.  Still trying to peg down a mobile battery replacement service (Firestone's vehicle is too large to clear the entry for the garage.  If I can't find one, I'll ask a friend to give me a lift to AutoZone, get what I need, and figure out how to swap it myself.

No critters in play.  I'm in a pretty urban area where my apartment building is literally the block.  Never seen anything with four legs aside from a dog on a leash in the garage.

Take the old battery with you if you can. They will charge you a core charge for the new one if you don’t leave an old battery with them.

If you can’t take the old battery with you just save the receipt. They will refund the core charge later when you take the old battery in

  14. I agree with others and would test/replace the battery. Also check the battery terminals and make sure they are tight and not loose or broken. A terminal clamp that can be moved will give you problems
