  1. Perhaps to make home insurance in risky areas more affordable a super high deductible could be offered.

Perhaps the cost of a roof and the average amount of water damage when a roof leaks in a storm.

Maybe this already exists, haven't owned a FL home for about 13 years.

Insurance paid for our roof when a hurricane ripped off the shingles and water poured in one year BTW.

It was affordable back then. What changed?

No one with a mortgage is uninsured.

I wonder what % owns their homes? I know my friend did because he outlived his mom and never moved out. It was paid for long ago.

Just getting into the biz but I've had a few who actually own outright here in Cookeville. Usually old. I would imagine plenty of folks who own outright in coastal areas choose not to pay the hefty premiums even if they could afford to.

  3. Again, I'm all for immediate disaster relief and recovery and I said I hope everyone stays safe.  No problem with funds for shelters, temporary assistance either.

    But here we go again....

Not on board with tax payers footing the bill for people who take chances living on the coast with no insurance.

Perhaps the reason hurricane insurance is so high is a lot of people don't buy knowing FEMA will help.

Smaller pool of people paying insurance means higher rates.

My friend could afford insurance at the time but chose to take a chance.

He got rewarded with a new free roof.

  4. Hurricane Michael

Looks like this one is going to be rather destructive. Hope everyone stays safe and gets themselves armed and ready in case but......

I'm of the opinion FEMA should not be paying out for repairs for free at tax payer expense.

If they do they should be able to put a lean on the property. If a home owner can't afford insurance why is it on the Taxpayer to fix the home?

Had a friend who had a home he inherited in S. FL. It needed a roof BEFORE the hurricane came and he had no insurance and owned the home outright.

He ended up with a free roof. The guy could have got a loan on the house to pay for a roof.

In my mind he ripped off the Tax payer. I'm especially against any money going towards people who build on the coastal areas or mountainsides etc.

Places where it's risky to build. I'm for FEMA assistance after a disaster but there should be limits. It's too political now.

I couldn’t put my finger on a motive, but something seemed afoot here and other threads (and on other forums).

Retired, no hobbies, no money, no family or friends? No life😢.... I see a lot of these types in my profession. Just wasting my time and theirs.

Jeeze!!! this is depressing me. Every keystroke is putting me further into that pattern! 😨 My use of emojis, my sitting here waiting on a call instead of calling up clients and drumming up business....

OK, I'm motivated now! Thanks Karl Fairburne!  Although I'm glad you were stopped before you started the old AK vs AR vs Mini 14 thread. I would have been glued to the screen with that debate for months.

Karl, if you're reading this. Seriously, get some hobbies or join a Church, volunteer. I've joined a local Barber Shop singing group and have been getting involved in Church a bit as well as a new "slow to take off Career" in Real Estate. Stay busy.

If we seem to be making fun of you it's only because we see a little of ourselves or what we might become if we get too involved in Forums and not real life.

    God Bless and good Luck!

  6. Never go to the movies anymore myself. Too much subliminal and sometimes overt progressive propaganda, Goebbels methods are alive and well in modern America.

Even if the film itself is free from "messaging", If the actors have been preaching their ideology in the open or spreading untruths about 2ndA issues or immigration. I can't get past that and concentrate on the film.

I'm open minded too. If they just said when asked about politics say, Trump is un-Presidential or he doesn't stand for my ideals and leave it at that, that would be ok.

Problem nowadays is the Film industry is part of the Democratic Party complete with daily talking points. And those awards shows where they all pat themselves on the back for how brave they are making movies about social injustice, sexism or racism etc. like they are heroes in a big fight....

Then they use the platform to preach SJW crap and talk smack about . Old white Men!

In my mind they are perpetuating social problems in this Country. It's the plan.

I'll watch a movie on the TV occasionally but often never get through the whole thing.

News, History, Documentaries and commentary on these things are what I mostly watch.

Had a thread on another Forum about What you liked watching recently on Netflix?

Also what, (beside's gun channels) on youtube?

There's plenty of choices out there.

  7. Airport security is a joke anyway. It only stops the most flimsy of plans I feel.

They probably deter average crazed passengers from boarding with a handgun or explosive but not well thought out plans.

So many weak spots with airline/Airport employees. Recent events have seen pilot suicides killing all on board.

Baggage handlers stealing, smuggling and even taking off with a plane.

Of course nothing is secure before the ticket counter/gate.

When I had to open my case at the counter and declare it was unloaded I was thinking how walking in to an airport with an obvious gun case is probably the best way for a maniac to sneak a loaded serious weapon into the airport .

    In plain sight.

My sister got a 9mm AR pistol one year for Christmas. I locked it up in a Wal-Mart Plano hard case with eggcrate foam padding and a single master lock. TSA rejected it saying the case was too easy to break into even with a lock installed, due to the weak hinge side of the case. And that something that flimsy would need to have locks on all 4 corners to be acceptible. Made her carry it back out to me and I had to ship to her FFL. Pain in the butt. I appreciate their concern and liability, however I don't think a $300 case is going to deter anyone who wants in either.

I bet if they'd have opened her "flimsy case" and found a lever action Marlin, instead of a scary black AR then she wouldve been deemed safe enough with the flimsy case.

Luckily I have some different size Pelican cases available from work, so I don't have to shell out for it myself.

I think the cheapo case had 3 lock tabs on it maybe 4. I put a lock on every one anyway.

At first I was going to disassemble the rifle and pack it in multiple suitcases with clothing but decided it would be an inspection nightmare. I knew I would have to show it, opened, at the ticket counter because I called the airline ahead of time.

Probably different rules with different airlines. I know I was unsure that everything was going to work out until I was safely seated on the plane.

  9. A little over couple of years ago I flew from FL to OR with a 44 marlin lever gun.

I bought the cheap wal-mart case and a couple of cheapo padlocks

They made me open it up at the ticket counter to have a look and a couple of questions.

What I found weird was arriving in OR it was on the carousel where any Tom, Dick or Harry could run off with it if I wasn't there in time.

  10. As good As that site is there are so many different stamps, on some like mine that you'll never know the import year or factory.

My Chinese has bayonet stubs that look to be factory ground. The stamp is similar but not like any shown on that site.

To be compliant it has to be original or have so many US parts. Missing the bayonet is why I tried to research it.

Although I've never heard anybody getting in trouble over a non complient SKS.

As much as it is a lovely idea, legally, I am not sure who would enforce it in a few generations. What keeps the buyer that bought from those guys from selling it to a developer. 20 acres would be a good start on a subdivision.

That situation is probably going to work out for a few lifetimes at least but....

Those kind of deed restrictions can get outdated over generations if people aren't vigilant. If someone erects a non compliant structure secretly and it stands for many years and many sales, eventually it can become legal because no one ever made a legal complaint, or even cares anymore. Don't know all the ins and outs or what its called but it was on a test I took a long time ago. I know different States have different rules.

This happens a lot in older subdivisions with restrictions and covenants in this area I have seen. Also re-zoning happens all the time.

And don't forget eminent domain. We the people don't really own the land.

Don't pay taxes on it or if scientists discover it's the spawning ground for some endangered insect.....The Government will do it's thing over your wishes.

  12.  One good side to subdivisions popping up in less populated areas of TN.

Subdivisions =working class usually and in rural TN many of these people are natives.

Generational family Christian conservative usually =pro-gun. Political!

Kinda new here in TN but Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville etc. are starting to go hipster, progressive with lots of growth from outside from what I notice.

    This demographic = anti-2ndA. Political.

In Oregon the influx of Progressives in the population centers of Portland , Eugene, Salem etc. Ruled politically. Many of these people came from CA to spread their ideology.

Gun rights are fast disappearing, one of the reasons I left Oregon which has some great public lands to go shooting on btw.

The culture in small town TN is pretty strong and growth could stem the tide against the big cities if elders pass on traditions to their offspring and newcomers are eased into a way of life that includes a strong belief in gun rights.

Get your kids shooting at an early age and invite that new neighbor to try out your latest firearm!

That's the way to keep TN gun friendly.

About land disappearing? Y'all are screwed I'm afraid. Would be nice if these greedy city leaders would set aside some land for public ranges though! All my guns are gathering dust since I moved here.

Think how cool it would be if there were communities built with gun ranges like there are golf courses.

Of course it could be a risky proposition....

Hard to say if I'd get tired of all day gunfire disrupting my quiet home life. Of course measures could be taken to minimize noise I suppose. but my mini-14 is one loud rifle I've noticed! Others are worse, some are better.

Seems a covered insulated semi-closed shooting dugout type of arrangement might help. Natural hills and terrain, trees etc could muffle noise some too in a perfect "Shooting Community" common area. Indoor facilities for handguns perhaps. It could be made Ideal with the right design.

OK I'm in! where do I sign up?, I hate golf.

  14. I have a pre-model 10 I bought 10 years ago with a holster for $250

Very nice condition only a bit of holster wear and the usual ring around the cylinder.

Never got used to the original grips and was hoping to eventually get one of those vintage Tyler T adapters.

Ended up putting an ugly pachmyer grip on it. Feels good now but yech!👎

Have been warned no Plus P ammo but have read 38 special back in the 40s and 50s was equal to plus p today.

Never found out the truth but have mistakenly shot quite a bit of plus p out of it one day and it did no harm.

Perfect gun for the nightstand and an easy shooter for ladies with little recoil from the all metal frame and the simplicity of having no safety or slide to rack.

  15. I recently, (a year ago) bit the bullet and got a fair condition SKS. Something I've wanted for a long time. Chinese btw.

Traded a minty 44 marlin JM stamped that I never shot anymore.

I figure the other guy got the better deal but SKSs keep going up in price. Maybe I got the better deal over time.

Youtube has made the surplus market skyrocket.

  16. I remember jumping out of my seat when I first saw that scene!

On implants, My Dad started getting a few of his teeth replaced with them in his mid 70s. Maybe 4 or 5.

by age 80 he had to get them removed because his bones weren't strong enough to hold them. He finally had all his teeth pulled.

I think implants are for the young perhaps.

  17. I have a first generation LCP I bought in like new condition in the box many years back. Multiple stovepipes throughout the box of PMC  I shot out of it.

Slide was/is stiff as hell. Thought it needed breaking in but problem persisted.

Was suggested I try hotter Fiocchi ammo and sure enough it worked! Significant increase in recoil in the tiny little gun though.

    1. Fiocchi 380 ACP 95 Grain Full Metal Jacket Muzzle Energy: 215 ft lbs
Hornady Critical Defense Ammunition 380 ACP 90 Grain Flex Tip: 200 ft lbs.
PMC 380 Auto - 90 Grain FMJ Muzzle Energy: 185 ft lbs.

I wouldn't trust my accuracy at over 15 ft. either. Sights useless and I guess my hand isn't meant for it.  I need to get it out and give it another chance maybe.
