  1. Welcome from Nashville. Which range(s) do you like to go to?
  2. At my age, I’m past being concerned if I don’t look manly enough by using a pad when I’m shooting. I’d rather protect my shoulder and be able to get out to the range whenever I can vs. having to take a pass because I’m too sore, or doing long term damage. As @Garufa says, a lot depends on the platform, and I’ll add proper technique goes a long way. My M14 in 7.62mm/.308 has a real punch. I came up with a pad I can wear on my shoulder using an elbow pad and old elastic belt. It’s thin enough that I can get the stock seated properly, but thick enough to take the edge off the recoil. In the winter when I’m shooting with a sweater on, I don’t really need it, but in warm weather with just a t-shirt on, it really helps.
  3. Welcome to the forum and to TN!
  4. Welcome from Nashville.
  5. If shooting indoors, I double up with Ear Buddy foam plugs and Axil Trakr Electronic over the ear. I have used that combo with my M14 Scout in .308 and it seems sufficient. That being said, I usually shoot that rifle outdoors since the indoor range I use only goes out to 50 yards. So mostly shooting 9mm and .357 mag/.38 spl indoors. The key with the foam plugs is to make sure they are fully compressed before inserting them well into the ear canal.

  8. Welcome from Nashville! I enjoy the occasional bourbon, but more a tequila sipper myself. Cheers!
  9. @itw69fxst You might try asking on the M14 Forum https://www.m14forum.com/forums/ The folks on there are very helpful. You do need to have 50 posts to access their Marketplace (not hard to do if you are moderately active), but someone may also be able to point you to other online retailers.
  10. Welcome back and welcome to the forum. You might think you’re still in the PNW with all the rain we’ve had this year , at least here in Nashville.

  16. Welcome from Nashville! Love the area around Sparta and Cookeville. I’m another one getting back into firearms after a long hiatus. And congrats on retiring at 51 (assuming that bit was true).

  20. All the info I’ve found indicates Hirt from this period (mid-70s) used Berdan primers. Can you confirm that is the case here? Thanks.

  22. Any info on how this has been stored? Have you actually used any of it? Info on the box in the 4th pic indicates it is from 1976. Thanks.
