  1. Hmm... Good point. Putting cost aside, how hard is it to get replacement parts for a Mini (either one)? Not stocks and grips and mags, but gutz. Whatever I get, I'd like to have spare drive train parts around (from finger through sear) and a firing pin.
  2. I have a chance to get a good deal on a 14 or a 30 (but can't afford both!). For the folks who have more than a passing familiarity with both, besides the different calibers, how do the two compare? Accuracy, reliability, cost to feed, etc. I'm looking for something for plinking, ventilating varmints, and maybe reaching out and touching varmints a couple hundred yards out. Just in case. We lives a bit off'n the road, ya know. Oh, BTW. Thanks for all in input re: AKs a while back.
  3. That's UPS. Stuff that is shipped Ground eventually gets to Greensboro then rides past my house to Monroe (20 miles in the other direction) and sits there until the sixth day. Then it comes back from Monroe to my house. The other day, UPS had two boxes from Cabelas. One for me and one for my neighbor. New/substitute (sub, I hope!) driver goes to my neighbor's door (about 1/4 mile away) with my package. Neighbor says, 'Nope. that's for my neighbor.' So the driver gets back in the truck, puts a label with my address on my neighbor's box, and puts them both on my porch.
  4. Just checking.... What about Bulgarian SSR-85Cs built by Tennessee Guns, or maybe a 1975 GP built by Century? (priced around 5 Bens new)
  5. dang just... dang... For a Russian???
  6. Hmmm. If that's the case, guess I'll just have to stock up on ammo and enblocs for the Garand and use it if need be. All the FTF deals I have seen around here, even prior to '08, entailed taking a real POS of somebody's hands and reimbursing them for the hotrod they have at home.
  7. OK, looks like a few are behind the idea of converting a Saiga. I've seen several of those, from the Russian maker, that have been civilized/emasculated to look like sporter rifles. So are you guys saying get one of those and put the AK-look furniture on them? Or would there be a lot more to do? And, yeah, I have seen (only seen!) big differences in the Romanian AKs. Some WASRs look like somebody really cared about them. Others look like they were bent then hammered back into shape, painted, and had some kid in high school shop make up stocks and forearms for them.
  8. Actually, Pineville, NC. Just south of Charlotte. You can see on the Para Ord site.
  9. Now, that has been an education! Thanks, guys!
  10. How's about a guide for us unwashed to compare the relative positives and negatives of the multitude of AK47 variations that can be encountered in the wild? You know, what manufacturers/countries of origin are better than others, date ranges that are primo and the ones that are iffy. Things like explanations of acronyms (what the heck is a WASR?)
  11. Huh? In your first post you said the seller told you it had been under the bed for 14 years. After you got hold of it, you said it was made in 2001.... ?????
  12. IBOK = IOWEGAN's Book Of Knowledge. It will tell you how to care for your Ruger and gives pointers on how to polish selected bits of its guts to give it the sweetest action you could imagine. IOWEGAN is a retired gunsmith who hangs out over on RUGERFORUM.NET (hope I don't get whacked with the ban stick for that). Nice place, full of good folks. Just like here! You have to register and rack up ten posts to get access to the library. The IBOKs (he has written more than one) are there.
  13. Hey (BH). Give Tri-Cities Gun Depot a call. I believe I saw an SP in there last time I dropped by. Good guys to deal with.
  14. One week. Well, the Boss Lady, that is. Bought her an LCP day before New Years Eve out of state. Picked it up at the FFL on New Years Day. Couple of days later, got a call from the FFL asking us to bring the gun back. They had given us the wrong one...
