  1. I concur with BrasiNuts. I joined last year and just mailed next years renewal. In addition to use of the facilities they also have classes to promote specific shooting disciplines and shooting safety. We Oak Ridger's are very fortunate to have such a facility available but considering all it has to offer it's worth traveling to for out of towners. :squint:

  2. As gift cards became more popular a few years ago our family just started giving them to each other. I made a management decision a couple of years ago and told everyone that I no longer wanted to exchanage cards. I told them to just take what every they would have spent on cards and use it to buy themselves something. It saves shopping twice, once for the card and once to redeem the card. I also adopted the policy for birthdays. Now we just buy for any children including College age. Makes life easier.

  3. In addition to the problem that OH Shoot is having with getting kicked out for inactivity (I had to type this post twice because I didn't submit it quickly enough and got kicked off) I have noticed recently that I can't just "Stop By" the site and look for new post of intrest without logging on. I frenquently vist the site to read for either entainment or information but normally only log on if I want to post. I now get a message telling me I have exceeded the number of visits allowed to the site and that I must log on just to visit and read.

  4. The tractor was fairly new ( 3 or 4 years old) and the exhaust was original equip. I looked under it afterward and it has a heat shield to keep persons from touching it but it appears the heat shield isn't adquate to prevent debris from touching the hot pipe. I looked under mine when I got home and it has a similar system. The FD came after I had extinguished the fire. They say this is common.

  5. For all of you out there that are still cleaning leaves up from yards please learn from my misfortune. Yesterday while it was dry I was @ my elderly parents home cleaning up. I have a yard vac (cyclone rake) that I pull behind the lawn tractor. I have two sets of mounting hardware so I can use the machine at home or put the machine in my truck take it to their house and pull it at their house with Dad's tractor.

Yesterday I drove into a pile of leaves like I've done many times but this time the leaves piled up in front of the mower deck and under the tractor. Within about 30 seconds a plum of smoke came up from the front of the tractor. Before I could get the tractor and machine away from the house and onto the driveway flames erupted. The tractor caught fire along with the yard.

I managed to seprate the leaf machine from the tractor and stop the fire in the yard before it got to the handicap ramp and house but the tractor is toast. :P

  6. Welcome from another Oak Ridger and what Mikedwood said. There are several of us on here that are ORSA members. I took my wife's daughter and grandkids (11 & 13) there Saturday for their 1st time shooting.

Also I notice your screen name which makes me thing you may work for ORFD. If so their is at least one other member on here that I know of that is employeed there. I only know his screen name I don't actually know who he is. I am employeed by OR Public Works.

  7. I bet he wished he had not done that after he got a taste of fuel.

I just picked it up from the shop. It has a one piece molded fuel line that goes from tank to the fuel filter. Can't just take a roll of hose and cut some off. Can you believe a fuel line from Ford is $118. That's just the part.

  8. I've had two the first was one of the small Charcoal Brinkmans. I used it till it just rusted to the ground. Now I have one of the tall verticle propane smokers that I bought @ Lowes for a couple of hundred. Works great. There are really expensive ones but like trblmkr13 said start with something less expensive. Smoking, like most things has a learning curve. You may like your starter smoker well enough (I do) to not want to upgrade.

  9. I have a 1999 F-150 that is used for a spare vehicle, yard work etc. It sits most of the time. I tried to start it last weekend (only time I start it is when I need it). Wouldn't start. A squirrel ate through the fuel line. I'm wondering if I can hook up one of those electric fence power supplies to it and zap the little @*!#er.

  10. Open carry vs CC is a personal choice but I am of the opinion that the less attention that is brought to one's self when carrying the better. Having said that, and again this is my opinion and everyone has one, this badge reeks of "Cop Wantabe" and one displaying it could be accused of impersonating a police officer.

  11. There is another factor to consider other than the law or the neighbors and this is true of anyone that has an area (berm) on their proprty for shooting. That is your homeowners. There have been cases where insurance companies have learned of homeowners using their own private property for personal shooting and canceling coverage based on the claim that the owner has a shooting range.

  12. I have a G19 and am very happy with it.

My only gripe and it 's a personal problem that I would have with most any gun is that I'm shooting a right handed gun left handed so I am trying to learn to operate the mag release with my trigger finger instead of my thumb.
