  1. thanks for all the advice! it is really appreciated
  2. Are you talking about the one that was designed just like the burris ar 332?
  3. ok well I just found out that my Christmas bonus will be on my next paycheck . So as you guys with families know that means 5-10% for me, the rest for the family. Ive already decided where Im gonna put it, and thats in a good entry level CQC style optic for my first ar build. I dont want a full length scope. Im not a big fan of red dots either. I wear contacts and it seems to me when Im at the range shooting, its hard for me to focus on the bead of the firearm. Ive come to the conclusion that its the contacts fault. With that being said I would like something with a small power fixed magnification (3x or 4x). The two Ive got it narrowed down to are the Burris ar-332, or the Primary arms 3x or 4x scopes. both these brands would seem to fit my criteria pretty well, now I just have to decide which one. I can get the Burris on ebay for about 286 with free shipping from a top rated seller. The primary arms is definately cheaper at about 180, and alot of people seem to be happy with it. Im just wondering what your guys opinions on these two optics are? Im sure some of you all have these, so speak up and tell me what you think of them please. Ive read good and bad reviews with both, so Im really about 50/50 right now. Thanks p.s. I cannot afford a eotech or aimpoint or trijion right now. especially with the holiday season upon us. so thats why Im not buying one of those, it just doesnt fit in my budget at the time. maybe sometime next year I can upgrade to one, but in the meantime I will get one of these
  4. yep ordered it with the stock! hurry up ups!!!
  5. just found out through ups tracking my stock will be in today, gonna tackle that project this evening. any tips/advice as far as stocks go?
  6. i bought a PSM upper assembly to finish up my first ar build. it hasnt came in yet, i ordered it this last friday and they said since uppers are assembled when ordered it could take up to 7 business days for it to ship . oh well. my neighbor has a full palmetto gun and has never had a single problem out of it, he is actually the one that talked me into getting their upper. i bought the 14.7" inch upper assembly, it has a perma mount flash hider on it. cant wait till i get it in, when i do i will give a little "impromptu" review on my impressions of it.
  7. if you dont mind me asking what are these thing running now? i remember back when you could find one for 1-200 bucks. wasnt that long ago now that i think of it. i bought one in 2005 for $150. sold it in 2006 for $125 after i put about 1000 rounds of ammo through it. i checked around a few months ago (because i wouldnt mind having another) and the prices for these were lingering around 3-400 bucks....is that still the case?
  8. thanks for all the advice, i will be geting a set of punch's before my next build. heck for 30 bucks or less (on midwayusa's site) they seem like a good investment.im having alot of fun building this gun and am planning on after the first of the year starting another one. gonna put it on pause during the holiday season haha. maybe putting a small dab of white lithium grease on it like another guy mentioned to, couldnt hurt anyway. again thanks for all the help!
  9. Haha it's funny that you mentioned that because that's the pin that gave me the most trouble on the lower...the trigger guard pin. It was definately a bear. I finally got it pressed in there after I wrapped the whole reciever in tape. I was scared the whole time that I was gonna break one of those ears off as you said. Or that I would miss the pin and hit the receiver with the tiny hammer I was Using to tap it in. I actually tried pressing it in with a small bench vice I had, but didn't feel comfortable putting that kind of pressure on the receiver. I need to look into getting some kind of roll pin tool, because I don't plan on this being my only build
  10. ok ive been a member for 2 years now and have three posts. when i signed in it said "It appears that you have haven't posted anything lately. We'd love to hear from you, so why not take a moment to start a new thread or drop into an existing conversation and post something?" So im gonna fill you guys in on my first ar build. Again this is my VERY first ar build, so everything has been a learning process for me. but i have to say i love it. just yesterday (10/21) i ordered the rest of the stuff needed to complete it. heres a list of the components i used. lower reciever- Stag lower parts kit- Stag buttstock- DPMS upper assembly- Palmetto State Armory 14.7" barrel (permantly pinned flashider which takes it up to 16.1) it came with upper, barrel, bolt, bolt carrier, charging handle, front sight, and handguard. I cant wait for the stuff to come in so i can put the very first round through a rifle i built. gonna be awesome. i will post pics of the finished product. (although it will look like a standard ar, who HASNT seen one of those) but still something about building your own rifle i really like. building it to YOUR specs and customizing it to your liking. plus this will be my first ar anyway. stay tuned for pics in the next week or so. (palmetto upper assembly can take up to 7 days to ship)
  11. again thanks for all the info. hearing all your guys experiences helps me make a better judgement, i must say this tho. i had one guy ask me why i decided to oc. well im sure all or most of you guys are familiar with opencarry.org. well there motto on their homepage reads out "a right not exercised is a right lost" i agree completely with that. we have the RIGHT to open carry, well if no one does, then eventually when someone does come out of the house with their gun on their side it draws more attention than when the president comes to town, because cops and the general public are not used to seeing that. so to answer the question on why i oc, thats why. Now, on the other hand i also understand why most conceal carry, to avoid the inevitable confrontation with people or cops. cause if you oc it WILL eventually happen. I do not oc every single time i take my gun with me. just about half the time. when i know itd be better to conceal then i do. i have just never had a runin with the cpd yet and thats why this thread was started to hear some of your guys experiences with them. (oh for future references i DO appreciate and respect the law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line to protect and serve...thank you)
  12. thanks for all the info. just like now ive heard different stories about the cpd, some say they are nice some say they are a-holes. i guess it just depends on the individual officer. how many people reading this actually do open carry in chatt?
  13. hey guys, new member here. i used the search tool to try to find the answer to my question but didnt really have alot of lock. my question is for mainly the chattanooga area members but if youve got answers help me out! thanks first of all, i exercise my right to open carry, just like alot of you guys do im sure. my main reason for doing this is cause i carry a medium to large frame auto, mostly my springfield xdm-40. its just not designed for comfortable concealed carry. i also just got my permit so i dont really know how open carry in chattanooga is. that is my question for you guys, is the chattanooga pd well educated in open carry, have any of you guys had any runins with the cpd of the sheriffs office? also, i know bilo does not allow concealed or open carry, but what about wal mart, from my understanding open carry is allowed in walmart, correct? well thanks for any answers guys and i look forward to attending some shoots and events with my fellow members on the site!
