Ok, I will take this if you still have it.  Since my Garand has become a safe queen I figured I would let someone have a crack it first, but it's been a few days.

  3. they have also had this extractor issue with the PF9. Mine was awful at loosing the rim about half way out. What was happening is the extractor was bottoming out in the extractor groove so it couldn't get a good bite. I pulled it out and filed some off the inside and made the extractor groove a very slight bit deeper. Since then it's been 100%

This will probably kick up a little dust with a few hunters here but that is what opinions are about. I and my best friend take a drive over to Crossville every year for a two-day hog hunt at an outfit called Loshbough Hunting Lodge. I have been a hunter since childhood and love the "chase" as well as the "destination"! Loshbough is an outfit that utilizes fences (required by law) to contain the wild game. Many hog and other game hunters poo-poo this because they claim it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Well let me tell you, this is NOT true here. This property has some of the steepest and challenging areas in the state. For those that haven't hunted hogs before, especially stalking them, bastards are SMART and they will play YOU the fool if you are not really aware. It can be more of a challenge than one realizes but the guides work real hard to get you a good hog. Shooting fish in a barrel my butt.

I believe the area is over 600 acres and gun, bow, with or without dogs, they do it! The guides are good, the accommodations, good, owners Rick and Cheri are fabulous. Their contact is 931-788-5408    224 Martin Burgess Rd.   Crossville Tn 38572  We will be going again in November and hope to fill the freezer for another year of good eats! For those that ask about he Hogs, there are  Russian, feral, feral crosses, Bar-hogs, waddles, and Mule toe on the property! I'm ready as we speak!! I give 4 1/2 stars!

not to be too nosy, but what range of expense is there for a hunt at a place like this?

  5. I'm thinking the welds will be butt welds and some plug welds. The plug ones probably won't be that hard to do if they get the penetration right. The butt welds on relatively thin material is going to be somewhat of a challenge for inexperienced welders. Not raining on your parade here, but everyone is going to want a nice looking piece when they get done. Maybe there isn't much of that welding that needs to be done? As you stated before this will not be a snap together AR style project.

With the build parties I've been involved, AR, AK and 1919, every builder has sort of their own pace so rather than grouping builders you might consider setting up workstations for the different processes.

Thanks seez52. Sure wish you still had it. Did it do a good job of leaving the heads unmarred?

It did a good job. You had to hold it just right to get the straight in and looking right, the rivets are fairly soft. Sometimes I had to go in with a dremel and grind off a slight amount from the inside to make sure the barrel didn't hang up during insertion. You might check over on the AK files in the classified section. Someone might be selling a tool or might even let your rent/borrow one since you're just doing one gun. There are a couple of different ones out there but I used the bolt cutter style for the front. If you're building an underfolder seems like you have to use it to mash the rear trunion as well. Can't remember for sure. On a standard trunion you'll need a different setup all together, and for the center support, if it's not already installed.

I think I bought a set of rivet jaws and got my own Harbor Freight bolt cutters to put them on.

  7. I just glanced over at an article about putting them together and I'm guessing your right, an all day affair.

Looks like there are several welds to be made once the flat is bent. Are you expecting each person to weld their own? I'm thinking there was some issue on AK flat bending that required the actual builder or owner of the gun to be the one doing the bending. I'm wondering how welding would be treated in this regard?

  8. I'd be interested. I've not looked into an MP5, didn't know you could build one from a kit.  Looked at doing an HK based rifle several years ago but the bending jig never really materialized. Kit builds can be a lot of fun. I've actually hosted a couple of AK build parties back in the day. We always had a great time. It generally took us about 8-10 hours to put an AK together from a flat including demil but not final finish. What kind of time are you thinking for these?

I have some of the basic tooling. I sold off all my AK specific tools. Also have a parkerizing set up but have dumped my chemicals.

  9. Our family officially went uninsured this year when our bcbs policy went for $775/mo to $1440 on ACA. With the $6000 deductible our out of pocket would have been around $25K before they kicked anything in. Unless of course I wanted to go to rehab for my drug habit, but really with this cost of insurance I've decided to just remain addicted. It would also pay for any abortion I might find myself needing,  and that's important since I really can't remember what I'm doing while I'm smoking crack. So all in all I've come out pretty good and saved myself a ton of money. I hardly ever used my insurance anyway. Bcbs was making decent money on my policy but not anymore. Sounds like my policy this next year would top $2200/ month. Sorry sukkers, ain't playing yo game no mo.

  10. P32s are great. Ive got two of them, one with serial less than 200. It was a special order through the KTOG website when they introduced it a bunch of years ago. They really do shoot good and decently accurate for such a small gun. In the summer I carry one every day. The other is my wife's she does not carry hers as much. It has a grey grip with hard chromed slide.

The only thing that has been a bit of a surprise was the .32 ammo. A few years ago I decided to shoot a couple of holes in a 55 gal. burn barrel since I didn't have anything else to punch holes with. To my surprise it would not penetrate even with FMJ. Made a good dent, but wouldn't go thru. After the first shot I decided I was way too close if it ain't going through!

  11. There is some interest in the newer version of the Chevy Impalas that have rear wheel drive. Some still have front but the ones with rear wheel are of interest to enthusiast drivers. There aren't many available yet as they have only been out a couple of years. They have LS engines and are built off the GTO platform. My son was telling me about them and I don't recall all the details but they sounded like a pretty good basis for building a real sleeper.

Completely off topic, well kind of. Been almost 2 years now (due for upgrade in December) that I switched to an iPhone. Went from flip phone to Blackberry to 3 different droids then tried apple and I couldn't imagine going back. To me everything is just so much easier to use. I am certainly no Apple fanboy but this phone sure is easy to use.

Now, if there is some reason for you to need or really want an android, disregard. But if you haven't tried one for long, I encourage you to try it.

There are lots of people who like iphones, but I'm just not into all the apple sauce that comes along with them. I'm too far invested in anything but apple so I can't go back now. My son switched over to an Iphone on his last upgrade having Samsungs previously. He won't say whether he's glad he did or not.
