It's always something with the GW fanatics. Remeber a few years ago, it was florocarbons, or all of our aerosols. We converted over to whatever we use now, but still global warming. Before that is was freon. Gotta get rid of it all. OK we did that, at a major expense of converting cars and houses to the new stuff. Well, what do you know, we still have global warming.
Remember back before that even, everyone was screaming that we were headed into an ice age. I think even Time Magazine did a big piece on it.
Nobody knows for sure what's going on. It's just another excuse for the politicians to seperate us from our money.
From what I read, most of the stats that they all love to quote are 10 - 20 years old, and recent studies are showing that we may be cooling again. I even saw a report that said Mars was going through a warming period. Pretty sure we didn't do that. Maybe the Sun is just a little hotter lately.
I saw a big honkin' SUV driving down the road the other day with all kind of tree hugger propaganda stickers on it. It also had a sticker that said it was OK that they were driving this beast because they had purchased carbon offset credits. Now don't get me wrong, if you have a big SUV, I'm not mad at you. If you have the money to buy it and pay for the gas, I say drive on. It's the carbon offset credit thing that gets me. Mostly they pay companies bonuses for doing stuff to save the environment, but they were already doing these things anyway. Ca-ching, extra money for them. I fear that the credits may become mandatory.

I am really into whitewater kayaking. It's the main reason I moved to TN. I've just started backpacking, looks like that may consume some time and money. Also I enjoy photography and Geocaching.

A few months ago, I went to the Cherokee Surplus in Fountain City that Mike mentioned. The prices were very good, in fact I was surprised. For the small ones (not sure of the size) they were about $9 for three of 'em. For the larger (.556 I think) they were about $15 for three. Don't quote me on the price, I'm going by my really bad memory, but that is a close ballpark.
He had a bunch of them there, most in excellent condition.
He also carries the real MRE's, but was out of them when I was there. If you go by his shop, please ask if he has any in yet, and let me know.

Another idea I had is to just call your local Police Department. I know they take ammo all the time. My grandfather had a bunch of really old ammo when he passed away, and my dad just took it all down to the PD. They were happy to take it off his hands.

If you have a range nearby, you could try calling them and see if they would take it from you. At my local range, any misfired rounds you have, are to be thrown into the range with the rest of the brass.

One other thing. I field stripped my glock when I put it in the locked container, but kept the spring in my pocket. That way if my pistol was stolen it would be next to useless.
I had no problems, you might also just take a smaller spring from the trigger assembly or other non firearm looking piece.
I would think the TSA would freak if they found this in your pocket at the metal detector line. Seems they may think you are attempting to smuggle a gun onboard with the assistance of others, one piece per person.
Would you inform the TSA inspector that you were taking a part out of the gun?

I know during a traffic stop in TN, an officer can request to temporarily disarm you they know you are carrying, but what about a cop who see's your gun printing, or peeking out whaile you are in a public place like a store. Can they legally make a big deal out of it and disarm you while they check you out? If they ask for your gun, do you have to surrender it? I know that he will eventually get to the bottom of the truth, but the hassel would be huge.

My wife has the Bersa Thunder .380, and I like it a lot. Very concealable, fits well in my hand for a small gun, very accurate.
Not crazy about it only holding 7 rounds, but that is just the design of the gun. 7 rounds is way better than 5 knuckles.
The only problem I ever had with it, sometimes the action returns to the ready to fire position after the last round is shot. Normally it stays in the locked back position like it should, but every once in a while it slides back. Not a big deal, but the gun goes "click" instead of "bang" and then you have to check it. Probably happend twice in 400 rounds.

I live here in Oak Ridge. In the past few years our local city government has been grasping at straws to come up with ways to make some revenue. In the process, they accept just about any hairbrained idea, even if there is a slight chance it will succeed, and don't really put any thought into planning or future reprocussions.
Anyway, some of the things they wanted to pass didn't really sit very well with the majority of the citizens. A grassroots group got together, passed around a petition to put the issue to a vote by the citizens. Our city charter provides for this checks and balances method of overturning bad legislation. It worked, they forced the issue to a vote in the general election and it was overturned.
Now, my question is, is there any such thing in the TN state government? Can we get a petition circulated that would force either a vote among the general public, or even better force the issue to go to the floor of the House and get out of committee?

If you have a Gander Mountain store nearby, they sell pink Taurus' in several different calibers. My wife was eyeing the 9mm. They look pretty nice. Gander Mountain is the only authorized dealer for them, so you have to go there.
BTW, be forewarned if you do a search of "pink guns" on Google, you may find something that you weren't expecting.

I'm curious about the law restricting off-duty LEO's from carrying in a alchohol-serving restaurant. If they are eating lunch in a restaurant of this type, are they required to disarm before coming in? I wasn't sure if cops are "on duty" all day long or if they take a lunch hour like the rest of us.
If they are breaking the law, would it be better or worse for our side to make an issue of it?

I've never been, but my son has been several times. He said expect to park a few miles away form the track. Get there several hours early and walk around and see the sights. definitely bring some kind of ear protection, the silly putty style is good. Expect to be in traffic a looong time after the race. The short trip back to the Interstate will take a couple hours.
