  1. I've got a Keltek .380 on order, but this thread got me thinking about the .32 pistol. I've seen some used .32's recently, and I've been waiting over 2 months for the .380 to come in, so I thought about changing my plan.

I got to thinking about price and availability of the .32 ammo, since .380 is so expensive and really scarce right now. I called Walmart and they said they get as much .32 as they do .380 - NONE. I asked their price on .32 target rounds and it was $18 for a box of 20! Almost a buck a round :D

I think I'll stick to my original plan.

  2. You know, I see a pattern here. Everyone makes the call and the nice lady on the phone says everything is good and it'll be 7-14 days.

Do you all think that making the call actually spurs them on to print the card? Or do you think it is just their standard answer to get you off the phone so she can get back to her solitaire game?

It seems to me that most of the time it speeds things up.

At least I hope so, cause my wife just called about her permit, and a nice lady on the other end of the line said it would be 7-14 days

  3. My dad had problems with raccoons eating and destroying his bird feeders.

He took a 1x4 about two feet long, covered half with aluminum screen and put a metal tray on the other end, making sure the pan and screen didn't touch. Then he hooked up an electric fence shocker, one lead connected to the screen, one to the pan. When birds land on the tray to eat, they are safe, but a big old raccoon has to sit on the screen to eat the feed. When he touches the pan, the circuit is completed and he gets a really big surprise.

It's even more fun to watch than the bug zapper :screwy:

  4. Back in the 60's, before my dad met my mom, he tried to join the ARMY. He was denied because of his vision. Fast forward a few years, he is married, and I just was born and Vietnam is in full swing. He went down to the draft board to update his status (married with child) and the lady at the desk recognizes his name. His draft notice had just gone out. Seems they didn't need him before, but any blind bat can take point.

Anyway, they pulled his notice and he didn't have to go.

  5. It's funny, my wife and I had this exact conversation about two weeks ago. There are several staff members at my church that use the word "crap" all the time, but would be totally offended if I said $#!+, which is the exact same thing. Not sure why some words are OK, and others aren't.

  6. I get kind of tired even going over to the ammo counter, but every time I'm in Walmart, I ask if they have .380 ammo. The story is always the same, "Haven't had it since December."

Well, I went in on Wednesday and the guy said he had just gotten ten boxes in that morning. Of course it was all gone. I asked if it all went with one person, and he said no, it took three guys to clean him out.

So that means someone in town here has got some. Come on and 'fess up if it was you.

And, would you like to hook a brother up? :)

The good news is maybe the stuff is flowing again.

  7. I had the same thing happen to me all the time. I kept setting off the alarm every time I went into Walmart and Home Depot. One day after tripping the alarm a greeter at Walmart said "you want me to fix that for you?" He got out some magnetic bar, told me to lift each foot up and he ran the bar across my soles. Never had a problem again.

I guess the magnet killed the security device imbedded in the sole. You might want to see if your WM has the magnet.

  8. They are quite impressive aren't they?

On mine, I just carefully pushed the two halves together. I found that one cut would form a sharp point, and I would just push the point in.

I have heard that some people will put one half in the freezer to make it smaller.

  9. IF there are any guns going across the border, banning the guns are not going to make a bit of difference to the gun runners. Most of them are probably full automatics, which most of us can't even own, so they are already illegal guns. A ban will not affect the trade route at all.

  11. Someone told me the other day that Kel-Tek makes guns in their spare time, but their main reason for existing is to make components for the space shuttle. And, right now the space shuttle is rampped up, so all their attention is on that and not gun making, which is why it is so hard to find that P3AT I've been looking for.

I also was told that Ruger was trying to buy some of Kel-Tek's patents?

Anyone know if there is any truth to these rumors?

  12. I say that since there were provisions made in the stimulus bill to allow for these bonuses, any congressperson who is now claiming outrage must not have read the bill in it's entirety. If not, then that is missappropriation of our tax dollars and they should all be brought up on charges of fraud.

  13. We were a no gun house up until a few years ago when I came to my senses. I bought a gun for protection and it turned into a hobby.

My wife was not crazy at all about the idea of having guns around, but said "you're a grown man, do what you want".

After I bought one, I told her that if it was going to be in the house she at least should know how to use it, just in case she would ever have to use it, no matter how slight the chance.

We went to the range, I showed her all about it, taught safety, handling, etc. and demonstrated the gun. I reloaded it and handed it to her. She unloaded the magazine, put the gun on the shelf and turned to me with the biggest grin I've ever seen. She said " that was so cool. Can we look for a pistol for me on the way home?"

Ever since she has been hooked. She is waiting for her permit as we speak. It has turned out to be something we both enjoy and go shooting on "dates".

My advice is go slow, be understanding, but be persistent. She'll come around.
