There appears to be a stipulation that says you can't be under the influence of "mind alterimg"substances (alcohol, drugs, etc) when the use of force occurred.

If I was strapped for cash and there was a way to buy a plan that only covered in the home and a plan that only covered outside the home, I would want a plan that covered me outside the home before I worried about anything covering me in the my home. If something happens in you household such as a home invasion, it will be a pretty clear cut case of who the aggressor is. It is outside of your household where things get much more questionable. I also want as much coverage as possible. 1 million dollars sounds like a lot but even that will get eaten up quickly.
After going back through the terms again and verifying with CCW Safe, I was informed that the coverage also applies to home self defense as well minus the stipulations brought up earlier about family/domestic issues. I've also been watching some of their courses they offer on de-escalation and the monetary costs associated with legal defense for use of force situations. It is good info.

I guess it's kinda like insurance policies. You may have insurance to cover your car but, if for example, you rent an apartment, if you needed coverage for that, you would need to buy a separate renter's insurance policy.

I have been a member of CCW Safe for a few years now. I have what they now call their Ultimate Plan. I agree with TripleGGG, you should seriously look at a plan that includes civil liability coverage.
They used to run a 10% discount on your first year through partners such as Law of Self Defense and Calguns but I don't believe they are doing it as often. You can do a little searching and see if you find a code out there.
This brings up a couple of questions I didnt really think about. Do the plans also cover incidents that may occur inside the home also such as home invasion or do you need to also purchase the Home Dender plan? I'm thinking I would need to get the extra policy but I could be wrong. I dddnt specifially see that info under the plan I bought. The same may also apply to getting the additional civil package to go with the Home Defense plan.

Does TN have such a law?

John Correia with ASP jokes that Pom stands for "Plenty of misery". I guess it can only be ordered online? I couldn't find any local retailers that carry it. I may check with GT Distributors to see if they carry it or something comparable.

Andrew Branca recommends carrying a non-lethal option like pepper spray. I know he and John Corrriea from ASP recommend Pom pepper spray. Does anyone on here carry that or suggest another brand? Preferably something that will fit in the pocket. Thanks.

I ended up getting the Defender plan with civil protection option. Considering the cost, it is really miniscule compared to bail and attorney fees. I've been watching the self defense case of Luis Casado on Andrew Branca's YT channel. He had some damn good attorneys and was eventually aquitted. I'm sure he paid a pretty penny for them but they definitely earned their paycheck. The fees for expert witnesses on defense aren't cheap either. Good thing my plan covers all that.

I'm looking at getting the Defender plan. I'll most likely get the additional civil protection option as well. It would be nice if our legislation would pass sime kind of bill that provides civil immunity in a justified SD event. I think we have one that is tied to the Castle Doctrine law but I'm sure that wouldn't stop someone from trying to sue.

How many on here use CCW Safe and if so, did you opt for the extra civil liability add-on? It's an extra $200/yr and I wasn't sure if I should get it or just stick with the standard plan. Thanks.

I watched this and it has some in-depth analysis on the final shot that was fired. To me, this isn't a good look for the good guy. That last shot could be construed as more retributive than self defense. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out...

Congratulations. You now know more about the laws of self-defense that at least 85% of gun owners know. Let us know if you like Ayoob's book.
It's good info to know but at the end of the day if you don't learn to APPLY the principles of SD then you are just wasting your time and money. Kinda like reading the Bible, if you don't apply what you learned then what have you gained?

There are two recent cases of road rage in north Georgia that resulted in fatal shootings. Initially they both appeared justified but later indictments came back and both men are facing murder charges. One case was initially no-billed by the grand jury but the DA took another look and was able file charges again with the grand jury indicating the person the second time. He was arrested and charged with 2 counts of murder. Probably felony murder and malice murder.

My EDC is a Streamlight ProTac 2L-X. It seems to do the job for me especially at night when walking the dog. The strobe feature is nice. I bought the rechargeable battery for it and can get decent use out of it before having to recharge it. It does seem to take quite a while to charge the battery though.

Right now, Andrew is offering a free book on his website (just pay for shipping).

My HCP class gave some good info on self defense but nothing nearly as in-depth as Andrew's book. As DHF and crc4 stated earlier as well as this book, the method used to defend one's self is mostly irrelevant. Self defense can involve anything from a gun to bare hands.

I got my copy of "The Law of Self Defense" by Andrew Branca last week and it has been a very eye-opening read on the laws of self defense. It also dicusses how the legal system works (it isn't meant to work in your favor if you go to trial). As a bonus, it also includes appendices at the back of the book regarding the laws of self defense for all 50 states. I am about 3/4 of the way through and HIGHLY recommend it. I will also be getting Massad Ayoob's book, "Deadly Force" to complement Andrew's book. Knowledge is power and can help keep your butt out of prison if you know and follow the rules.

I just ordered myself a copy of Andrew's book. Looking forward to reading it. I took the 8 hour HCP course 12 years ago and learned some good info on some of the basic self defense laws in TN. That info only scratches the surface though. It is up the the HCP holder to expand their knowledge on what is legal and what isn't. The old adage, "Ignorance is no excuse" holds very true in self defense. This is especially true if one plans to carry in other states. What might be legal in TN could be illegal in another state.

I've been looking at the Mantis Academy set. I wonder how well it works with the SIRT pistol? I would like to be able to practice my draw and "firing" multiple strings without racking the slide for each shot. Does anyone have that setup for dry firing? I wanted to get some input before dropping the money on both as it is kinda pricey. Thanks.

I hated to hear of her passing. For hatever opinion people may have of her, I feel she was a friend and ally of the US. The most touching gestureI recall of her was when she asked the Coldstream Guard to play our national anthem at Buckingham Palace in the days after 9/11.

Is there any particular CAT tourniquet brand I should stick with? I was looking at some on Amazon but dunno if they are junk or not.
-
I'm slowly getting my get home bag stocked with various items including medical emergency items. One of those items is a tourniquet. The version that I bought is the HALO type. I was wondering if these are just as effective as a CAT type tourniquet or if I should get a different one. One person I spoke with swears by the CAT version. I haven't found much on the internet that gives the pros and cons between the two. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

I didn't sign up with their website so maybe that was why I couldn't do much. The package had arrived in Chattanooga on Friday. I had hoped i could just arrange to pick it up on Saturday at the distribution hub where I had shipped it from. I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone there so I gave up. The tracking page had a "manage delivery" button I clicked on but I got the message "Due to shipper restrictions, additional delivery options are not available for this shipment. For more info, please contact the shipper." I dunno if that would include holding the package at a pickup point or not since it didn't list any options for pickup. I did let Glock know about what happened even though I know they aren't responsible for delivery once it leaves their facility. Also the adult signature required link showed "Adult recipient unavailable (age and required identification vary by country/territory)".
Wonder if this will pass?
