  1. from what I have researched, I like what I see. And, there is, or at least was, a used 18.5" available in my area. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of being able to change out the barrel. I have a few friends that like to shoot clays. Being able to put on a longer barrel could come in handy.
  2. Thank you Richard, I am thinking about a Mossberg Maverick 88 as my first. However, I may go ahead and get a 500 instead.
  3. I will likely be buying my first shotgun in the coming weeks. I will likely buy a 12g pump with a 20" barrel and full length tube magazine. I have not decided on what brand of shotty I will buy yet. But, it would be used for home defense and target plinking fun, if you can consider shooting a 12g plinking I have done enough research to know that rifled slugs can be shot through a improved cylinder bore. However, here are a few questions... 1. In IC shotguns, that do not use different chokes, does the bore gradually decrease in size, or does it only decrease toward the end of the barrel? 2. Does it make a difference whether the change in bore is gradual or only toward the end of the barrel? 3. If I decide to buy a shotgun that has a full bore, and uses replaceable chokes, can I still shoot slugs through a IC choke? Maybe I am just over thinking this, but I am a newbie and I would rather be informed than remain in the dark.
  4. sorry, no pics. I have not entered the digital camera era yet.
  5. I purchased a new Beretta U22 NEOS a little while back and I think it is time for a little review. While researching 22lr pistols I was concerned with the prices of the so called high quality brands of pistols. With prices reaching and in some cases exceeding those of quality self defense pistols. I did not want to break the bank on a plinker. After more research, I found a few reviews of the U22 saying that it was reliable and affordable. With my interest in this Beretta growing, I started checking prices online, with local gun shops and at a local gun show. As luck would have it, one of the cheapest prices I found was at the gun show. After thinking about it for a few hours, I pulled the trigger on a the basic model with a 6" barrel and silver grips. As with most 22lr pistols, it is single action only with a manual safety. The design is a little... futuristic, with a rail running the full length of the barrel for mounting optics (don't laugh, I believe this thing is accurate enough to be a tack driver with a nice scope on it). The ergonomics take a some getting used to, especially with the mag release being on the opposite side of the grip when compared to most handguns. It has a short crisp trigger but, it is on the heavy side for a target/plinking handgun. While I don't know the exact trigger pull, it seems to be more stout than my 2nd generation Glock 17. I also have to say this handgun is heavy. At around 35 oz, it is approaching the weight of a full size 1911. That weight, however, makes for a stable and accurate platform capable of quick follow up shots. You get two mags with the gun and they seem to be very well built. The mags hold 10 rounds and are easy to reload. While most 22lr pistols may need higher velocity ammo (such as CCI Mini Mags) to ensure reliable function, I can say that my Beretta U22 NEOS functions with every brand and velocity of ammo that I have used. My friends and I have fired close to three thousand rounds through my U22 with only 2 hiccups, a failure to fire and a failure to eject. The ftf was a Winchester Supreme and fte was a Winchester Super X (which made very little noise when fired, maybe it had a light load of powder). I have used bulk pack ammo from Winchester, CCI, and two different types of Federal bulk ammo without any problems. While I have not finished off any of the bulk pack boxes, I have fired at least 100 rounds of each. I am sure I will have a few more rounds fail to fire, but as of now, the gun is functioning very reliably. While the design of the U22 is a little funky, a little heavy and the ergos are a little different, I would say that you can't go wrong with purchasing one of these for the pure fun of plinking. Thank you for your time, hazmatt
  6. why not try out a Kel-Tec 9mm. I've heard good things about both models
  7. Thank you all for your time. I'm going to try to meet up with Glockster157 if the weather will cooperate.
  8. from what research I have done in the last hour, it looks like there is not much difference in the specs of the guns. however the 66-2 seller is asking $575 for his, and the 65-3 owner is asking $450.
  9. hold the presses, the 66-3 is actually a 65-3. seller had wrong model listed in the add. the 66-2 is a "combat magnum" if that means anything. both have 4" barrels.
  10. I am considering buying a used S&W 357 mag revo. I would like some opinions on what a good price might be. I have found two for sale. One is a model 66-2 purchased in 1984 with about 900 round fired through it half 38sp half 357mag. the other is a model 66-3. I am in e-mail contact with the two sellers and waiting for more info on the model 66-3. Maybe someone can tell me what years the 66-3 were produced in.
  11. I don't own any long guns for now. BRD is in my system. I just don't have the finances to treat it.
  12. Thanks. Most of the LEOs I have met in my city are rational people. After I have my HCP I will have my carry gun loaded and holstered. Any other gun will still be unloaded and in a duffel bag.
  13. I got that pic off the web. Go to Google images and search oscar fish. You should be able to find it in the first few pages of results. I have seen a few versions of this pick. One of them is a huge high quality pic. I don't have a fish aquarium going for the time being. the ex got the 55 gallon tank and I got the 29 gallon tank. I'm using the 29 gallon for my Texas rat snake. I bought the snake after the divorce. The ex hated snakes. I don't know why. I thought she should should have liked her own species...lol.
  14. Can you place the pistol target holders at the distance you want at CHMR and MCGC?
  15. even without locks and without using a mag, I would have to... 1. open first duffel bag 2. open gun case 3. open second duffel bag 4. open ammo bag 5. open ammo box 6. load a single round into the chamber my mags are kept in their own bag within the same duffel bag as the pistols. using a mag would make the 6th step to open mag case and 7th to load the mag. adding padlocks to one or more of the bags would add even more steps. Heck, I could even field strip the pistols and place each piece into separate ziplock bags. I think it would be hard to say that I was intending to go armed.
  16. Thanks guys. I have plenty of locks to lock my locked duffel bag....lol. In all honesty, thanks and I will be using a pad lock to secure both of my bags. Maybe I can find a couple metal military ammo boxes to secure my guns and ammo.
  17. Well, the glove box is not going to work. I guess I will have to stick to using two separate duffel bags. one for pistols placed behind the seat, and one for ammo placed in the passenger floorboard.
  18. Thanks guys. How/where do you get the permits for the Yanahli Firing Range?

    Ummm ok

lol... squirrels, ground hogs, and moles beware.
  20. I bought my first gun from Ken's Guns in Lewisburg back in August (Beretta U22 that was in stock). He said that he charges $20 for FFL transfers from out of state/online dealers.
  21. I am new to guns and shooting. I was wondering what shooting ranges are in Maury or surrounding counties. I have found the website for the Maury County Gun Club. I also saw Owl Hollow Gun Club listed on this site, and wondered if this club has reopened (the website said that there lease expired 12/31/2008). If there are any in the area, I would like to now their hours of operation and how to become a member.
  22. I drive an S-10 pickup, so no trunk. I could place the ammo or the gun in the glove box. Do you think this would be better?
