  1. Thanks for the search Daniel. I did bohica but not the tngunowners part. I also searched this site and not Google. I guess that was the difference.

Garufa, it will attach to any AR lower. My understanding is that the lower can handle the recoil. That's one of the things I was hoping someone with some direct experience could answer.

  2. Daniel, I saw the Bohica classified ad from last November if that's what you're referring to. Wish I'd been there to buy it.

I didn't find anything else in my search that applied specifically to my question.

  3. There is a certain gun shop near me that I'll go to just to browse because it's always fun, but I decided I'll never buy a gun from them because of poor CS.

I'll bet you that I avoid the same shop for the same reason. I do take it one step further and won't even browse in there. I have however met a couple of TGOers in the parking lot for FTF deals.

Customer Service is king with me and I'll gladly pay a couple of extra dollars to support my LGS as long as I get good service.

  4. I have Dan Wesson CBOB's in ,45 and 10mm. They are worth taking a look at. But I also have Springfields.

I am not to keen on Kimbers. The two I have had were problems. a CDP and a Full Size.

    Moto,

Watch out they are addictive and they breed like crazy, One day you will have one the next day five. :panic:

What he said. They are absolutely addictive. They're also the one gun I have the most trouble selling or trading. I'm a big fan of the Dan Wessons and have a CBOB in .45 (wish I'd gotten the 10mm too) and a CCO, along with a Colt Gold Cup and a Springfield Loaded. The next one will be an Ed Brown Special Forces or Kobra unless I come across a good deal on a 10mm Wesson.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Let that be a lesson to all gun owners! Make sure you hire a reputable climbing guide to when your guns decide they want to go mountain climbing. Most guns are not properly experienced to attempt this on their own and that leads to just this sort of tragic accident. I failed to to send mine to swimming classes before they went deep sea fishing in a canoe and the boat flipped over.

I just can't believe that I picked that day to let my guns go play with yours...

  6. Really? I've been there twice. Had money in my pocket and was willing and ready to buy. I started calling it "Cold Creek" because of the cold shoulder I got there. Seemed like they didn't have time for me. Didn't seem to give a rats butt, and dropped me like a hot rock when someone they knew walked in.

    What he said.

  7. You sure bumped into the right person.....here is what you do. If you don't know much about the gun...flash up a pic or a partial S/N just to make sure you don't have one of the lightweight versions or a flatgate. If so - you do you do NOT want to have it reblued as they you just might be a lucky owner of a rare gun. Honestly they look nice when new off the factory floor, but I am somewhat partial to old and well worn single sixes.

Here me through on this one only (and only if you intend on this being a shooter and it is uncollectable)

1 - Find out how to put it together

2 - Call Ruger and tell them you have a unconverted Single six that qualifies for the safety conversion. They will need the serial number and if it has not already converted they will send you a free, prepaid shipper to their New Hampshire factory.

3 - Make sure (I mean write down who you talk to and get a Serrvice number as well as write a note alongside the gun) to have the factory quote you a reblue while it is being converted. It usually runs $100-$150

4 - Have the service done and get your gun back

5 - They will also send you back all of your pre-transfer parts. IMPORTANT Do not lose them as they are worth $75-$100 alone.

6 - Sell them on a collector forum (I know of one :D ) if it is a shooter. This will get you the highest quality reblue for the least cost or install the old parts back if you know what you are doing and want to keep it as a showpiece. Only convert back if you know how to safely operate a pre safety model....there is a very important step you have to learn upon loading the gun. With the old parts you can 100% restore it back to factory condition as it was shipped many years ago.

Post the pictures once you have done this...would love to see it.

Sent you a PM. Thanks for the great response.

  8. Okay, I'm going to out myself as a dumbass. I've got an old style (pre-transfer bar) Ruger Single Six that I took apart several years ago with the intent of rebluing and reassembling it. Several years later it's half stripped, still hasn't been blued AND I don't remember how to put it back together :). Anyone have any suggestions for a good gunsmith around Knoxville who can do a professional looking blue job for me (at a reasonable cost)?

  9. Meant to ask you MK, does yours have "SIG 522, Sig Sauer Inc. Exeter NH USA" on the left side of the upper? Mine does not. Was curious as to the difference.

Just checked mine and it does. Not sure why one would have it and one wouldn't. Curious to know if you find out.
